"Sura" - the lady of the weather

In Russia, there is indeed a certain “weather” object known as “Sura”. It is located in the central zone of Russia, in a rather remote and quiet place, about 170 kilometers from Nizhny Novgorod, and belongs to the Research Institute of Radiophysics, which at one time was one of the leading research institutes of the Soviet Union. The installation is located on an area of about 10 hectares and consists of long rows of twenty-meter antennas. In the center of "Sura" there is huge size emitter designed to study acoustic processes in the Earth's atmosphere.
"Sura" was developed as a research laboratory, which was supposed to significantly improve radio communications over the vast territory of the Soviet Union, as well as provide constant monitoring of a potential enemy. But the successes of Soviet scientists far exceeded expectations: the results of the first tests forced us to seriously think about the real possibilities of the constructed installation.
At the very beginning of the 80s. XX century, when an unknown and super-secret object was just passing the first test tests, quite a few mysterious phenomena, which later became the main subject of research. When the installation was turned on, workers and scientists constantly observed a bright glow in the sky, small red flashes, a huge number of dark silver balls hovered over the territory of the institute. But for some reason, the personnel of an ordinary scientific station are protected by an order of magnitude more reliably than the White House, the Gakkon training ground turned out to be military, and the leadership of the station itself and the entire HAARP program is carried out only by representatives of the United States naval and air forces? Moreover, the landfill can only be accessed with a special pass, which cannot be obtained by a civilian scientist. Materials related to the activities of the research station are also not available. In addition, in connection with the well-known events of September 11, 2001, a Patriot missile defense system was installed around HAARP. Summing up all these facts, many considered them to be proof that the US military is testing powerful meteorological weapons, the consequences of which can cause irreparable harm to our planet and its people.
Numerous accusations were voiced, after which the US military ceased to hide the capabilities of the system. Now they even exaggerate them, but the true goals of HAARR are kept under the heading "secret". However, most of the world's scientists are sure that the project's task is to actively influence and artificially change the state of the earth's ionosphere by changing its chemical composition, which will undoubtedly lead to serious climatic disturbances. The thing is that such experiments can easily destroy the ionosphere, the ozone layer and lose the atmosphere, which is tantamount to death for the Earth. In addition, we repeat, geophysical weapons are akin to Pandora's box - it's easy to open, impossible to close. No one still knows - neither scientists, nor politicians, nor the military - what will happen to our planet the next second after the operators turn on the installation. Indeed, for today's science, the atmosphere, ionosphere and magnetosphere of the Earth are too complex interconnected physical systems, and it is impossible to accurately simulate what a strong energetic effect on them will lead to! It is possible that large-scale accidents in power grids and oil and gas pipelines will occur on different continents. The failure of computers that control the life support systems of megacities can plunge cities into darkness and chaos. A little about the history of climatic weapons
Even without fully understanding all the mechanisms that form the climate, a person tries to control it. In the middle of the last century, the first experiments on climate change began. At first, people learned to artificially induce the formation of clouds and fog. Similar studies were carried out by many countries, including the USSR. A little later, they learned to induce artificial precipitation.
At first, such experiments had purely peaceful purposes: to cause rain or, conversely, to prevent the hail from destroying crops. But soon the military began to master similar technologies.
During the Vietnam conflict, the Americans conducted Operation Popeye, the purpose of which was to significantly increase the amount of precipitation over the part of Vietnam along which the Ho Chi Minh Trail passed. Americans sprayed some chemical substances(dry ice and silver iodide), which caused a significant increase in rainfall. As a result, the roads were eroded, and the communications of the partisans were disrupted. It should be noted that the effect was rather short-term, and the costs were enormous.
Around the same time, American scientists were trying to learn how to manage hurricanes. For the southern states of the United States, hurricanes are a real disaster. However, in pursuit of such a seemingly noble goal, scientists also studied the possibility of sending a hurricane to the "wrong" countries. Reality or fiction
Is a climate weapon even possible? In theory, yes. But in order to influence the climate on a global scale, on territories of several thousand square kilometers, colossal resources are needed. And since we still do not fully understand the mechanisms of the occurrence of weather phenomena, the result can be unpredictable.

In addition to scientists, the US Navy and Air Force, as well as the famous DARPA (Department of Advanced Study), are taking part in the project. But even with all this in mind, is HAARP an experimental climate weapon? Unlikely.
The fact is that the HAARP complex in Alaska is by no means new or unique. The construction of such complexes began in the 60s of the last century. They were built in the USSR, and in Europe, and in South America... It's just that HAARP is the largest such complex, and the presence of the military adds intrigue.
In Russia, the Sura facility is engaged in similar work, which has a more modest size and is now not in the best condition. Nevertheless, "Sura" works and studies electromagnetism in the high layers of the atmosphere. Several such complexes existed on the territory of the former USSR.
Legends have appeared around such objects. About the HAARP complex they say that it can change the weather, cause earthquakes, shoot down satellites and warheads, and control the minds of people. But there is no evidence of this. Not so long ago, the American scientist Scott Stevens accused Russia of using climate weapons against the United States. According to Stevens, the Russian side, using a secret installation of the Sura type, operating on the principle of an electromagnetic generator, created Hurricane Katrina and sent it to the United States.
Conclusion
Today, climate weapons are a reality, but their use requires too large-scale resources. We do not yet know enough of the most complex processes of weather formation, and therefore it is problematic to control such weapons.

At the same time, a network of radar stations was created in Cuba and Vietnam, interesting data were obtained, including on the structure of the typhoon, which made it possible to start modeling various methods of influence. Theoretical work was carried out to study the possibility of influencing the cyclones of temperate latitudes and the weather in the region. But in the early 90s. work on active influence on the weather in Russia practically ceased to be funded and was curtailed. So today we have nothing to brag about. The "eye" of the typhoon no longer interests us.
Secret work continues
So, in 1977, within the framework of the UN, the Convention on the Prohibition of "Environmental War" was concluded.
