Such behavior of currents is clearly contrary to the ideas about them as thermohalin, geostrophic.

It seems that from the Mexican bay through the Floridian shed in the ocean, a powerful stream of water in the form of a jet is entered, which forms golfustrim. Previously, exactly that was thought. Hence the current and got a name: Gulf Stream, which translated from English means - the Bay River (Mexican) or a jet of the bay.

However, this impression is deceptive. It was later established that Gulf Stream was mainly formed by said sloping cold waters from the north and warm waters of the Sargasso Sea from the south, but not the Mexican Gulf, where the water is practically incomputed. It turned out that in the middle part of the golfstrum, the water consumption is much larger than in South, in the Floridian Strait (and these facts are not consistent with the thermohalin and geostrophic nature of the flow).
