Camouflage fabric is a canvas of a special color that allows you to “break up” the silhouette of an object (object or person) covered by it, and make it less noticeable or distort its shape and nature of movement.

The fabric borrowed this property from nature - many species of animals, birds and fish have a protective color, with the help of which they become less vulnerable to enemies or less noticeable to potential victims. Also, almost all animals have a color and surface structure (and sometimes body shape) that are in harmony with their habitat.

Translated from French camouflage ( camouflage) means "disguise".

Disguises have been used since ancient times. For example, the American Indians made clothes from animal skins for hunting or attached leaves and grass to their bodies.

As military equipment, camouflage fabrics began to be used relatively recently - at the end of the 19th century. The colonial troops of Britain, while in India, began to wear khaki clothes (translated from Hindi means “ dusty"). It is the color of earthy brown, yellow-green "dusty" shades. Since then, this color has been used in military uniforms in almost all countries of the world as one of the types of camouflage.

Types of camouflage and colors

Further, for each area and depending on the season and weather conditions, its own colors were created. It assumes not only a suitable shade, but also a certain pattern. The main large groups are waterproof camouflage fabric "Forest", Jungle, Desert, Winter, City, Summer camouflage.

First spotted camouflage a military suit (chameleon) was created and patented in 1939 by the artist Vladimir Baranov-Rossine.

In the USSR, before the Second World War, the "Amoeba" color was used - a khaki or green background with black or dark brown spots.

The modern camouflage colors of the Russian Armed Forces are “Digital Flora” or “Pixel”. It was created in 1984. Outwardly, it looks like the configuration of pixels from the monitor screen, applied to the fabric, increased many times. Tone from light green to dark brown. Such a pattern does not allow the eye to "catch" on the object and determine its shape, range, movement. For video surveillance systems or photographic equipment, a person in this form will just be a blur.

Properties

In addition to camouflage properties, camouflage fabrics must have characteristics that also meet the conditions in which they are used. The main ones are:

  • strength;
  • high hygienic qualities;
  • waterproofness;
  • windproof properties;
  • resistance to external influences (UV radiation, high temperatures, salt water, chemical weapons, etc.).

All of these indicators vary depending on specific needs.

What material to choose

The basis for applying a camouflage pattern, as a rule, is synthetic or blended fabrics. They can be of different densities.

Oxford

It is mainly used for sewing jackets, suits, tents. Composed of polyester or nylon. It has a characteristic texture of the fabric - in a square - thanks to the interlacing of the matting threads. Oxford clothing is durable, not blown out and retains heat, resistant to chemicals.

Rip stop

Rip-resistant fabric. Even if a cut or puncture forms on it, it will not tear further. Such a property camouflage fabric has thanks to polyester threads that pass through hb base and form a kind of reinforced lattice. At the same time, clothes made of this material remain light enough, breathe well, and do not allow water to pass through when using special impregnations. It is also used for making jackets, raincoats, backpacks and tents.

Greta

This blended camouflage fabric gained popularity due to the fact that it is woven in such a way that the reverse side is cotton, and the front part consists of polyester fibers. So the clothes remain soft and pleasant to the body inside, absorb sweat, dry quickly, and repel dirt and water.

Polar Fleece

For winter types of camouflage, polyester fiber is used, woven in such a way that air chambers remain inside it. Such a material can be finished with a water-repellent impregnation on top or duplicated with another material. Polar fleece perfectly warms, cleans well, weighs little.

Jersey

T-shirts, T-shirts and thin camouflage trousers are sewn from a mixture of cotton or viscose and polyester. Such lightweight products have good hygiene properties, are practical and comfortable.

Membrane

Also, in civilian and military equipment, a membrane is used with a masking pattern on top. It is easy to move in clothing made of membrane, it protects well from cold, wind and rain. From above, it does not allow moisture to pass through, but it removes all body vapors well, so the clothes under it always remain dry and the person does not freeze.

After the fabric is made, the background of the desired shade is applied to it and after that the stain. When determining the composition of dyes, reflectance values are taken into account. For every locality geometric construction spots, their shades and saturation are individual and calculated by specialists.

Applications

  • The main areas of application of camouflage fabrics have been and remain the army and the military industry. They are still sewn military uniform for many units of troops, as well as covering covers for special equipment.
  • Also, such materials are actively used for the production of protective, uniform and workwear, suits and equipment (backpacks, tents, shoes and hats) for fishermen, hunters, tourists.
  • Thanks to its non-brand colors, it is widely used as outer workwear for builders. Sometimes supplemented with reflective elements.
  • In the field of entertainment, camouflage is used for the production of clothing for military sports games (paintball, airsoft, etc.).
  • In the 60s of the last century in the United States, military camouflage became fashionable among the civilian population. Initially, the goal was to attract the attention of the population and protest against the wars. Interest in such clothes quickly faded away, but revived in the 80s and since then it has regularly appeared in the fashion collections of popular designers. Jackets, raincoats, coats, sweaters and accessories (scarves, bags) in the military style are sewn from camouflage. For this, softer and more comfortable materials are used, such as knitwear, jeans, silk, wool. In addition to the military "protective" colors in Everyday life other types of camouflage are also popular: leopard and zebra. A less aggressive style is the "safari" style, it also uses all shades of the first camouflage - khaki.

Camouflage fabric is an indispensable material in military affairs, serving as protection for people and equipment. It is also firmly entrenched in the fashion world and, together with the appropriate accessories, helps to create unique looks for men's, women's and even children's wardrobes.

Chinese Camouflage Mystery March 31st, 2016

On September 3, 2015, China celebrated the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. The parade on this occasion looked like a really impressive demonstration military power country. Hundreds of combat vehicles and about 12,000 soldiers from the usually secretive People's Liberation Army marched through Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Many of these Vehicle never appeared in public and were conspicuous by the country causing pixel disguise. But where did the Chinese get this scheme and why is it blue?

Russian liberals and nationalists saw a threat in the coloring of Chinese armored vehicles and the coloring of the uniforms of some units of the People's Liberation Army of China. They were very confused by the blue-blue camouflage, which was categorically considered "winter".

The "Ukrainian patriots" were especially happy. Like, this time, for sure, everything is to the "damned Muscovites". From day to day, Cupid will be crossed by the Chinese divisions.

This is how things really stand ...

Photo 2.

A pattern that resembles the color of blocks from a computer Minecraft games, which contrasts quite sharply with traditional camouflage. In addition, the latter has been used by the military since the 19th century: imitating foliage and others natural features the colors have proven themselves very well.

Bold mosaic camouflage is gaining more and more widespread use by military forces around the world, which seems to contradict common sense; after all, nothing in nature is so rigid in form. But it really works - which surprises even the creator of a new type of camouflage who developed the concept forty years ago.

Photo 3.

In the late 1970s, O'Neal suggested to the US Army that square blocks of color would mask armored combat vehicles better than full paint. His idea was to build a model that would work no matter how far the vehicle is from the observer. Large models work well at long distances, while small patterns work better at close range... But patterns made from small squares, or pixels, can be colored to mimic both.

It all goes back to the times of distant

Photo 4.

The experiment exceeded all expectations, but it took a long time for the digital camouflage to take root. A daunting task proved to convince skeptical military officials. The military are still conservatives.

Only by the beginning of the 1980s were the efforts crowned with success. Guy Kramer became one of the leading designers of modern camouflage. general manager HyperStealth Biotechnology Corp.

Photo 5.

Digital camouflage is now used to varying degrees by military forces around the world. But the future of camouflage is likely to be even more challenging. Kramer is developing a version of digital camouflage that will actively change like a chameleon. The alpha version, which already exists in reality, is called SmartCamo. Probably, such camouflage will be very expensive and will require an independent source of energy - but it is still cheaper than human life.

When I served we had this kind of camouflage

And now everything is like this:

So why do the Chinese have blue camouflage technology?

Let's try to understand the camouflage issue in more detail.

By the way, this is also a "blue" camouflage. Apparently, Chinese missile boats and other warships are already preparing to break through the steppes and deserts of Mongolia into the operational expanses of Siberia. Well, or at least Beijing is preparing to make a cunning move and make a roundabout maneuver by boats to Murmansk and Arkhangelsk through the North Pole ...

But, in fact, that very blue-and-blue technique, which is especially dangerous for us.

this is the exercise "Hanxun-2015" of the Chinese marines

In general, is the trend clear? And now - the essence. In 2007-2009, the armed forces of the PRC switched to a new uniform of model "07". The changes also affected the field uniform. And what are the official shades in it?

In particular, such:

"Marine (07 Oceanic Camouflage) - light blue, green and light khaki on a blue background. Used in limited numbers by the Navy and Marine Corps."

"Urban (07 Urban Camouflage) - dark green, light gray, gray-blue on a gray (slate) background. Used in the PLA Air Force."

And what form is used mainly in ground forces Oh?

"Universal (07 Universal Camouflage) - green, brown and black on a gray background. The model has proven itself well in urbanized landscapes and is standard for the PLA Army and Air Force, as well as for units taking part in activities overseas."

There is also desert with khaki color and forest with brown and olive shades. In general, there was no sensation.

Shade-based camouflage of blue color is generally widely used in the world. And not only in China, but also here! So, in 2013, the decision to paint warships in blue-gray camouflage was made in Russia!

One of the very popular car tuning methods today is camouflage painting. Military motives are becoming more and more relevant in design solutions for various directions, apparently due to the fact that it fully reflects the modern pulse of life. If you look at it, camouflage on a car can serve two opposite purposes. On the car of a hunter or fisherman, this is a means of camouflaging transport in conditions wildlife... In a peaceful city, such a color is a way to stand out, attract attention, show your style and worldview. Cars in camouflage look harsh and brutal, arouse respect and admiration.

Individual painting of a car - camouflage

Like any other pattern, camouflage may well carry an aesthetic load or be a purely functional means of camouflage. Depending on the tasks and types of terrain, various types of camouflage can be applied to the vehicle - they will be discussed below.

Geometric camouflage

The geometric (or chopped) view was created in order not so much to hide the object as to break its silhouette into sections with chopped geometric shapes of various shapes and sizes. Being painted in this way, the car is very difficult to visually assess in terms of its actual size and shape. Usually white, gray and black are used here.

Originally created for military purposes, this drawing is very popular with designers today. By adding to it areas with an unexpected color, for example, blue, pink or purple, you can create very aesthetically interesting options for the color of the car.

Geometric camouflage on cars

Pixel Drawing

Pixel (or digital) camouflage is visually similar to the arrangement of pixels on a computer monitor. It is also called "destructive" - it smears the silhouette of the car, hiding its movement on the ground. When it comes to masking, there is a special instruction that determines the ratio of spots of different colors. The colors themselves are determined based on the terrain in which the object operates.

Pixel art can be used in urban areas and in mountains or desert, as well as in some types of forest. For rocky mountains and urban areas, gray-white and black are used.

In the desert, sand-colored spots are appropriate, this is obvious. For forest areas, green with brown, black are chosen.

Pixel art on a car

Forest view

The most common pattern among those who camouflage a car for functional purposes is forest. Prevails here green color and its different shades. Brown and black are added to it. The forest pattern uses flowing lines and soft transitions to blend seamlessly with the forest foliage.

Those who use this drawing in a purely aesthetic application can make it in any tones: acidic, purple, pink, etc. It all depends on the taste and flight of imagination.

Winter drawing

It is quite natural that there are types of camouflage for a car in a snowy winter. Prevails here White color to which gray-blue stains are added. The winter version can be made both in the form of smooth lines and transitions, and in a "chopped" version.

Sometimes black color can be added to the winter pattern - smooth dark spots and lines dilute the white, mask well if the snow cover is not solid.

As a rule, this variety has a purely applied meaning - few people choose it for car aesthetics and self-expression. Most often it is in demand among hunters living in northern regions country. Sometimes white camouflage used by those who like to hunt in winter time, and who is not too lazy to change for the sake of this appearance your car.

Winter camouflage

Hunting civilian camouflage

For hunters, patterns have been developed that have nothing to do with the military style. It is a solid green or gray-yellow deciduous background. This option looks very stylish on jeeps - as if it was created just for them. There are variants of the pattern imitating the jungle, coniferous and deciduous forests, grassy cover of the steppes and savannahs.

This color looks very stylish and is both an excellent camouflage tool and a stylish design solution for car styling.

Car painting - "hunting" camouflage

Desert storm

One of the very common varieties is the desert pattern. Prevails here yellow and different variations on its theme. A sandy surface is imitated. It can be smooth transitions, lines and digital pixel version.

This pattern is often used in regions with sandy deserts. You can design your car in such a style so that you feel harmoniously in the context of the surrounding landscape.

Desert Storm car camouflage

Varnishing type

Two types of varnish can be used for varnishing camouflage cars:

  • with a glossy effect;
  • with a matte effect.

If you are interested in camouflage in an applied sense, then glossy varnish is definitely not suitable. Body gloss is in no way conducive to effective camouflage. Therefore, if you are a hunter, fisherman or military man, do not hesitate to use only a matte finish for your car.

If you are interested in a design effect, rely on your taste. It all depends on your preferences and tastes. Both glossy shine and matte restraint are allowed. But if you want to create for yourself the image of a brutal adventure lover, then you should still refuse glossy varnish.

Conclusion

Camouflage of a car can pursue various, sometimes completely opposite goals. This may be the desire to disguise a car in conditions of hunting a wild animal, for example. Or, conversely, the desire to stand out from the crowd, look cool and stylish.

There are many varieties and variations of camouflage patterns. They are made for different conditions, landscapes and produce a different visual presentation.

When choosing the type of pattern for styling your car, first of all, decide on what goals you are pursuing. And only after that, decide to choose one or another pattern.

In military affairs, it is important to remain invisible. For these purposes, camouflage is used: it allows both people and equipment, structures to merge with the environment and be invisible to the enemy.

Camouflage colors of Russia

V modern Russia the military uses many types of camouflage colors, primarily due to the large number of geographic and climatic zones. The main color is KZS or popularly "Birch". The colors of Reed and Flora are also very common.

Summer and winter camouflage colors

In addition to summer camouflage, there are winter colors, which is based on white. And additional ones are already under the surrounding relief: forest, reeds, dark spots. In addition to costumes, camouflage coats are also used, which are put on top. In addition to the military, such clothes are used by hunters, gamekeepers, fishermen, as well as those who are fond of airsoft.

Pixel Camouflage Colors

Pixel camouflage, or as it is also called a number, uses a slightly different principle. It kind of breaks the silhouette of a person into separate fragments, and allows them to dissolve on the ground. These colors also work even on the move. However, there are also a few disadvantages, the number must be very well matched to the surrounding colors.

NATO camouflage

At the heart of NATO equipment is camouflage known as Woodland and various modifications. Basically, there are two colors brown and black, and the background is selected based on the geography of use, most often it is green or light brown.

All types of camouflage films have their own characteristics, zest. They are suitable for partial and complete transformation of the vehicle body. It should be noted that vinyl is presented in different colors. Among motorists, the most popular shades are dark green, beige and black-white-gray shades. Less commonly used shades of blue and red.

Vinyl camouflage to protect the car body.

A car in military camouflage is the choice of people ready for daring experiments. Pasting with such material allows you not only to become the owner of a vehicle with an exclusive design, to emphasize your individuality, to solve masking problems, but also to create reliable protection of the paintwork from the influence the environment.

Unfortunately, the condition of our roads cannot be called ideal. Even with very careful driving on the body of the transport, various defects appear over time. All sorts of troubles lie in wait for cars in urban conditions and outside the city. Small stones flying from under the wheels of neighboring cars, dust, dirt, sand, branches and the influence of other circumstances bring a lot of trouble.

Pasting the body with high-quality vinyl camouflage well protects the paint layer from various flaws, sun rays(burnout) and other negative factors. Autovinyl is characterized by excellent resistance to various influences. It is distinguished by good indicators of strength, durability, and resistance to aggressive substances.

Auto vinyl camouflage is an easy way to hide defects.

Automotive film allows you to solve a lot of issues. The first place, of course, is occupied by the aesthetic and camouflage components. Self-adhesive auto vinyl camouflage will help protect vehicles from adverse environmental conditions (stones, precipitation, branches), as well as hide minor defects in the coating: chips, scratches, rust, minor damage after an accident. This, in turn, extends the operational life of the transport.

Camouflage film adheres well even to problematic body surfaces. Vinyl is a popular solution for vehicle renovation, as wrapping a car with a film will cost much less than painting, and the result will be beyond praise. It is worth noting that pasting a car with auto vinyl does not harm the body coating. If necessary, vinyl can be quickly removed, returning the vehicle to its original appearance.

Car painting in camouflage or vinyl. What's better?

What to choose: painting the car in camouflage or covering it with vinyl? No paint job is able to convey such a range of colors and give a car such interesting features as vinyl camouflage. In order to paint the body this way, you will have to find an artist. However, today there is an advanced method - auto vinyl. Transport covered with film looks extravagant and original. It is impossible to achieve such an effect using paintwork.

Unlike paint, using film is a cheaper and faster solution. It will take a minimum of time to transform the car. In addition, you can quickly return the vehicle to its former features. If the technology is observed, the coating can be easily removed from the body.

On a new paint and varnish layer, even with very careful operation, various flaws (chips, scratches) quickly appear. Vinyl camouflage solves this problem at no significant cost. After a few years, a high-quality camouflage film will have good appearance.

What kind of cars is camouflage film suitable for?

You can, in principle, cover any car with camouflage vinyl. Auto design experts believe it is best suited for sports cars and SUVs. Self-adhesive camouflage film gives the car an aggressive military look that does not fit with the super-elegant and somewhat feminine outlines of the executive class car.

But on a massive SUV with its "chopped" shapes, the camouflage looks just perfect. Spotted vinyl film adds even more solidity and aggression to such a car. The cover with this design makes the SUV look brutal and a little intimidating.

Camouflage gives a sports car an individual and unusual look. The "iron horse" wrapped in camouflage vinyl looks especially impressive on city streets. The bright spotted surface stands out strongly against the background of gray asphalt and sleek monochromatic colors of passing cars.

Camouflage car film on off-road vehicles.

Vinyl camouflage film is simply made for vehicles whose main purpose is to conquer rugged landscapes. SUVs are bought not only by people who want to feel the power of hundreds of horsepower, but also by fans of hunting, fishing and travel. Camouflage auto film will help the hunter (tourist) easily hide from prying eyes both in the forest thicket and in the open area.

The versatility of the combination "SUV - vinyl under camouflage" is that the former is suitable for any design and color of the latter. A massive jeep looks equally appropriate in an army (khaki), desert (gray-beige) or winter (black-gray-white) "uniform". Such a car can be covered with vinyl of a classic camouflage design with smooth lines or with a pixel pattern.

Graphic camouflage with large angular fragments looks most unusual on SUVs. This design is called urban. It really looks gorgeous on city roads, within a crowded metropolis. It makes a killer impression. But if you want to get lost in the impenetrable wilds and not frighten off the boar, with such a spectacular color it will be difficult to do it.

Camouflage vinyl for small cars.

Camouflage vinyl is suitable for any vehicle size. It not only perfectly emphasizes the animal nature of jeeps and "predatory" sports cars. An ordinary city car can be turned into dangerous handsome with camouflage vinyl. The main thing is to successfully choose the design and shade of the film.

Anyone who gravitates more towards classics and does not feel an inner readiness for drastic changes should opt for a film with an amorphous pattern. It is characterized by smooth lines and small spot sizes. This camouflage vinyl is commonly used in the military and hunting for camouflage. The amorphous pattern imitates the natural landscape.

Lovers of general attention and daring decisions should stop at pixel or graphic design. However, spots that are too large vinyl camouflage on a modest size car they will visually "tear" it apart. It might look like one fender would be black, the other white or gray, and the hood might be a mixture of obscure lines. If this effect is not an end in itself, it is better to buy camouflage film with small spots.

Do you need car camouflage inside the cabin?

Many car enthusiasts believe that it is not worth using vinyl wrap for camouflage inside the cabin. In fact, this is just a matter of taste. Vinyl can be used to cover any hard surfaces (and in the cabin too). Another thing is that a car covered with camouflage inside and out will visually "smear", as it were, lose its characteristic features.

This feature is characteristic of camouflage design. To prevent this from happening, it is worth playing in contrast. Automotive camouflage matches perfectly with matte monochromatic seat upholstery. It can be black, gray or brown leather, alcantara and other materials.

It is advisable to select the color of the upholstery so that it perfectly matches one of the vinyl shades and is, as it were, its continuation. It is also worth choosing a single-color floor and ceiling covering, which will also be in harmony with the upholstery fabric of the chairs. Black looks especially good in such a situation. It will suit any type and shade of camouflage.

Camouflage vinyl wrap on motorcycle.

Another area of application for matte camouflage film is motorcycle wrapping. Two-wheeled vehicles are no less suitable for SUVs in order to acquire a more aggressive and intimidating look with the help of spotty car vinyl. It looks very impressive. The motorcycle covered with a film under camouflage gives the impression of a military transport from the distant future.

Auto vinyl is also ideal for covering motorcycles because it stretches and perfectly adapts to any, even the most complex and streamlined shapes. The motorcycle has enough of the latter. Dyeing it in camouflage is pretty tricky. In addition, the "two-wheeled horse" has a lot of small parts that will have to tinker with.

Camouflage vinyl solves all of these problems. Thanks to her, the coating will be the same color everywhere, without abrupt transitions or inappropriate shades. It can be used to glue over both plastic and steel parts. But we do not advise you to get carried away! Against the background of the spotted camouflage film, the chrome shine looks even cooler.

Camouflage film for cars. DIY pasting.

A good choice for those who want to cover the body with their own hands. The spotted pattern perfectly hides all imperfections. If you didn’t do everything smoothly or you had to make joints in prominent places, do not worry, camouflage will hide everything.

Another thing is that working with auto vinyl requires a certain skill and professional skills. For people who have never encountered car wrapping with matte vinyl, it is recommended to start with a carbon film. This material is comfortable, with many advantages. After the experience gained, you can proceed to pasting with camouflage.

You need to glue auto vinyl tightly, carefully expelling all air bubbles from under the film. Particular attention must be paid to small details and edges. The latter should be well smoothed, and the excess film should be cut off carefully so as not to scratch glass, headlights and other fragile parts. If you are not 100% sure that you will be able to cope with this task, it is better to contact the specialists.

Camouflage film colors.

Vinyl camouflage film allows you to operate the car in extreme conditions and makes it almost invisible. The most popular are dark green film coatings, black-white-gray and sand vinyl.

Each shade matches different types disguise. The dark green gamut, in particular, the khaki color, is widely used to create the "military" style, white looks harmonious in urban environments, red and blue shades are in demand much less often.

Khaki camouflage.

Swamp green is the most interesting shade of matte vinyl. Khaki camouflage film is in perfect harmony with SUVs, sedans, with urban compact cars, which become absolutely invisible in any vegetation. Protective color speaks of the brutality and severity of the owner, which causes admiration.

The sporty dynamic models are matched by a more energetic styling in the form of a light green color. Dark green protection has traditionally been associated with military vehicles. A deep rich tone is combined with white and black inclusions of a matte finish.

Red camouflage.

Red camouflage is chosen for bright tuning of vehicles. At exhibitions, such a rich and elegant type of decoration is used as exhibits. Red is synonymous with elegance and boldness and is often preferred by women who emphasize their sexuality and attractiveness. Often, red camouflage film is combined with black pasting, creating interesting design variations. The emphasis is on the sides, handles, bumper.

Blue camouflage for cars.

Vinyl blue camouflage on cars is associated with the sky, sea and ice. It testifies to diligence, pacification, calmness, high diligence and perseverance of a person. The machine does not attract much attention. Both SUVs and compact models are pasted over with blue film, which look much more interesting due to the depth and saturation of the color.

Gray camouflage for the car.

The gray camouflage film fits perfectly into the autumn and spring landscape. Gray camouflage on cars is most relevant in medium climatic zone, which is characterized by a cloudy landscape and the proximity of snow to open soil. The gray-brown color does not attract attention in deserts and in areas where pastel colors prevail. The matte surface has a significant plus, it does not create glare in the sun.

White camouflage.

White camouflage film is the most unique and versatile type of coating, containing all shades of the spectrum. Its widespread use in styling and tuning is due to its unlimited possibilities and a host of competitive advantages. Thanks to the white tone, a complete change in the perception of the car is achieved. The luxurious perfect white remains dazzlingly clean when exposed to sunlight and detergents.

Black camouflage.

Black camouflage car film transforms the appearance of the car in a dramatic way. It gives the car design a special charm, solidity and changes it beyond recognition.

The classics are in harmony with any brand of car and set off beauty even in low light conditions. On a black background, all other colors look as expressive as possible. The combination of different shades turns the car into a work of art.

Urban camouflage for cars (urban).
