We'll tell you by month when the best season is to relax on the beach in Vietnam. Read how to avoid the rainy season at various resorts.

Vietnam for a long time did not arouse any interest among our compatriots: a poor country with socialism - what should a tourist do there? But for last years Vietnam has actively begun to gain popularity as a beach destination. It turned out that in this country it is very pleasant to relax by the sea on soft sand, both in summer and winter.

Due to the long coastline, you can swim and sunbathe in Vietnam all year round. But for these purposes, you need to choose the right resorts so that your vacation is not overshadowed by constant tropical downpours and storms.

There are only two seasons in Vietnam - dry and wet, but it should be taken into account that the territory of the state is divided into three zones: northern (Ha Long, Hanoi and Trako), central (Danang, Nha Trang), southern (Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City, Mui Ne, Vung Tau). And each zone has its own season suitable for beach holiday.

Comfortable season in Vietnam

November

After a wet season, the weather in Vietnam is heading for winter. This is especially felt in northern regions, where the air temperature drops noticeably to +17+23 degrees and only occasionally rises to +25. It rains mainly at night, no more than 5-7 times a month. In the mornings there is fog in the lowlands.

In Hoi An, Hue and Da Nang there are heavy rains and storms destructive hurricanes. Settlements flooded with water, the sea is muddy and restless. It's better not to go to the beaches. In Nha Trang and Mui Ne, although the sun warms the air to +29 degrees, frequent rains and typhoons do not allow you to enjoy your vacation.

Planning a trip? That way!

We have prepared some useful gifts for you. They will help you save money while preparing for your trip.

The least precipitation at this time is on the island of Phu Quoc, Phan Thit and Vung Tau, but humidity up to +30 degrees can cause discomfort.

December

Official start dry and beach season falls on . It is this month that a stream of tourists flocks to Vietnam for a beach holiday. The southern coast provides excellent conditions for swimming and sunbathing: the sky is clear, there is almost no rain, during the day the air and water temperature is about +26. In Mui Ne the temperature rises to +30, but it is tolerated comfortably due to the light cool wind. Conditions are approximately the same in Fukuoka, which experiences its highest peak in December. tourist season.

Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue are still experiencing the effects of cyclones bringing heavy rains. The water heats up to about +24 degrees and seems warmer than the air. In Hanoi and Halong in December it is quite cool - +20 degrees during the day, +16 degrees at night, and there are fogs.

January

Most cold month in Vietnam. In mountainous areas there is short-term rain, and sometimes snow falls. There is almost no rain in Hanoi and Halong, but during the day it is quite cool - about +15+18 degrees, and at night about +13. In the central zone, precipitation becomes less (only in Da Nang does it rain frequently), but the sky most time is covered with clouds. The air temperature rises to +23+25 degrees, the water warms up to +24.

The south of Vietnam pleases tourists with warm and dry weather. In Ho Chi Minh City and Phan Thiet, the sun warms the air to +29 degrees and the water to +25. In Vung Tau the temperature is a couple of degrees higher. At the same time, air humidity is low, and a light breeze adds freshness.

February

Are you afraid of being left without communication on the road?

All the best to everyone and always! Winter has opened its hot embrace... Or rather, frosty, burning, in the Russian climate. And the lucky ones, whose vacation fell in December-January-February, begin to think about whether to go somewhere warm and close to the sea, for example, to Vietnam. Another category - winterers - packs backpacks in half with suitcases, planning not just to leave for two weeks under the palm trees, including Vietnamese ones, but for the whole winter, and even longer, as they did in their time.

Accordingly, for the second category, the weather in Vietnam in winter is somehow not very critical, because they travel seriously and for a long time, and plus twenty-six with rain is still more comfortable than minus twenty with wind. But the first category really doesn’t want to spend a week out of two weeks of rest in a hotel room, watching how a gently tooth-bruising tropical downpour paints watercolors on its windows. And so the first category began to actively ask questions in chats and tourist groups about the weather in Nha Trang in particular and in Vietnam in general. Therefore, they also considered it their duty to digress from the promised articles, in addition to an unscheduled post, in order to pour out to the masses a weather forecast based on own experience stay in the blessed socialist republic of Vietnam, as well as the experience of friends living there.

Dry and wet seasons in Nha Trang

Let's start with something simple - with what the weather USUALLY happens.

Nha Trang has two seasons: dry and wet. The dry season lasts approximately from March to October, wet - from November to February. All this is quite conditional and approximate, and it does not happen from year to year, and typhoons (and - we have reassuring articles), cyclones, and other natural anomalies make their contribution, but on average this is the case.

Dry season

The dry season is hot and dry time years when there is either no rain or it is very rare, the asphalt on some days melts from pleasure and thermal radiation, and the sea is calm, gentle and Photoshop blue. average temperature air at this blessed time during the day +29... 33°C, at night +22... 26°C, water in the sea +26... 29°C (at different months differently in the indicated ranges, and, as you remember, it does not vary from year to year).

Wet season

The wet season is an equally blessed time (by Russian standards), when it is quite warm in Nha Trang (+23... 28ºC during the day, +22... 24°C at night, +24... 25°C at sea). However, during this period it is far from dry, because it can rain and waves can break. Oh shore. On the city beach. Therefore, swimming here can be very dangerous: on the shore you can see red flags and rescuers driving frantic tourists out of the water.

This is what the red flag looks like on Nha Trang beach (early February 2017). The wave is not visible because it was filmed from afar with magnification, and the level of the flag is higher than the level of the surf. Pay attention to the color of the water - it is cloudy due to the clay carried into Nha Trang Bay by the Cai River. And further away you can see the dividing line between the blue sea and the brownish one - clay from Kai does not get there

The color of the sea during this period is often closer to brown, because rains contribute to an increase in the water level in the Kai River, which flows into Nha Trang Bay, which is why it carries clay into the bay, particles of which make the sea brownish.

By rains in the wet season we mean tropical downpours, when water falls on the mortal heads of tourists, winterers and local residents in strong streams, streets in certain areas (non-tourist) can flood, and this miracle lasts from 15 minutes to two days, including night.

The amount of rain begins to gradually increase from about second half of November, reaching a maximum in December, declines in the second half of January and decreases significantly in February.

It can rain heavily during the day, it can rain a little every other day, there can be days without rain, or there can be days when it rains all night and all day without stopping (this is less common). In the interval between rains, there may be clouds during the day, under which the white skin of a Russian winter tourist easily burns, or the harsh winter Vietnamese sun may scorch, all the more capable of causing sunburn.

In general, in Tozhe’s opinion, you can live with rain if you have a raincoat and a positive attitude.

It’s more difficult with waves - a raincoat doesn’t help against them. Waves on the city beach begin to appear in October, while still on some days, become more frequent in November, and reign almost all the time. December, January and February, subside by March (usually in the second half).

Experience too

This is a description of the weather average. But deviations are always possible. For example, December 2016 was VERY rainy, even for Russians living in Nha Trang for a long time (comedians on social networks renamed Nha Trang to Dozhdiang). And December 2015, according to reviews from old-timers, was quite warm and dry. In 2017, according to messages from chats and groups, December was dry, although cool. In 2018, there was a fairly good amount of precipitation in early and mid-June, which on average should not be the case. Luckily, it rained mostly at night.

About the waves. In December 2016, we also practically did not swim on the city beach. On January 7, 2017, we managed to swim here, apparently as a Christmas gift from the sea, but the day before and the day after it became dangerous because of the waves. I have been able to more or less swim (specifically on the city beach) since February, but not every day and mostly in the mornings. In 2018, the waves lasted quite a long time: they should have subsided by the end of March, but they “pleased” with their presence in April.

Winter 2018 - 2019, so far, is an example of compliance with statistics: rains, sunshine, and waves are quite normal, not counting the storm on November 18, 2018, as well as the fact that due to rains at the end of December 2018 - early January 2019 Mudflows occurred in the villages surrounding Nha Trang.

What resources can you look at for relatively accurate weather forecasts in Nha Trang and Vietnam?

Another way to get to Phu Quoc, longer than by plane, but usually cheaper, is by ferry from the towns of Ha Tien (Hà Tiên) or Rạch Giá. And to Hà Tiên and Rạch Giá there are buses from Ho Chi Minh City (ticket price in the range of 200 - 250 thousand VND).

Link to tickets Ho Chi Minh - Ha Tien Link to tickets Ho Chi Minh - Rach Gia

Ferry from Ha Tien to Phu Quoc will cost 185 - 230 thousand VND, depending on what type of vessel you choose. Children's ticket - from 125 to 200 thousand dong. A child is considered to be a person between 6 and 11 years of age. Travel time is either 1 hour 15 minutes or 2 hours 45 minutes, depending on the type of ferry. This Vietnamese site has Ha Tien - Phu Quoc ferry schedule and online ticket booking on him.

Ferry from Rach Gia to Phu Quoc will cost 330 thousand dong (according to other sources, 350 thousand dong), a child ticket - 240 thousand dong. This Vietnamese site has ferry schedule Rach Gia - Phu Quoc .

And one more option to get out to this quiet island for a few days, perhaps not the cheapest, but very convenient: an excursion with a travel agency. So far we know that “Uncle Vanya” offers an excursion to Phu Quoc lasting 4 days and three nights. Perhaps other street travel agencies are also considering this direction.

To summarize: if you I want the sun, but you will somehow survive the waves— go to Mui Ne or Phan Thiet; if you you need both sun and calm sea— welcome to Phan Rang or Phu Quoc.

Is it worth going on holiday or wintering to Nha Trang in winter?

Now we come to the difficult part. To be or not to be, to take a tour or not to take? They will also try to give advice from the point of view of their experience and outlook on life. But this is our opinion, which may not agree with yours.

Winterers

If you have already been to Nha Trang, love this city, and it is important for you to get from winter to summer, then you can and should go here in winter for several months. For the rains pass, but summer remains.

You just need to mentally prepare yourself for the fact that there will most likely be a lot of rain in December, and the weather will more or less settle down by February. You should also be aware that you may not be able to swim on the city beach during this period as often as you would like. But the issue with bathing can be resolved, as described above. If the warmth with rain and waves in Nha Trang suits you better than the cold with the sun and wind in Russia, make up your mind. Remember that sometimes... Ours is also helpful. And we also have a separate page where we select air tickets to Vietnam at low prices and post links to them.

For tourists

Tourists should go to Nha Trang in winter if:

  • I really want to come here;
  • be calm about the waves on the city beach and are ready to get to quiet coves (at least to the North Beach);
  • Be the type of person who is interested in excursions, walks, tasty food, but calmly do without long frying on the beach from morning to lunch and after;
  • your children are the kind of children who feel good everywhere, as long as mom and dad are nearby, and where to swim: in the sea or in the pool is equally wonderful for them;
  • treat people for whom nature does not have bad weather. For us in Nha Trang this is true. 😀 We are among the people for whom the very fact that you can walk along the sea in the morning and evening, even when it’s rough, warms the soul.

For lovers of exclusively beach holidays, who come for the hot sun and many hours of swimming, and to have the beach next to the hotel, and not have to travel far and long to get to it, and excursions are not so necessary, it is better to read the next section.

Where to relax in Vietnam during the wet season in Nha Trang

What to do if you still want to dive into a calm sea early in the morning, and not get to the beach by bus or taxi, don’t go somewhere on an excursion just for the sake of the sea, don’t go to another city from your hotel for a few days already paid for as part of the tour? There are two answers to this tricky question:

  • Hoping that during those two weeks of the off-season, when you are relaxing, the weather will improve and the waves will subside. 😉 According to our (and other people’s) experience, if there really may be little rain in Nha Trang in winter, then the probability of waves is still high.
  • To solve the problem with waves radically: go on vacation not to Nha Trang itself.

Tour to a hotel remote from Nha Trang

You can take a tour to hotels remote from Nha Trang:

  • Amiana Resort 5*;
  • Vinpearl hotels;
  • Hotel on Hon Tam Island;
  • Hotels on Zoclet Beach;
  • Hotels on the way from Cam Ranh Airport to Nha Trang, including Bai Zai Beach.

These hotels were written about in the subsection of the article about.

There are also hotels on the coast of Ninh Vân commune and Whale Island Resort on Hòn Ông Island. But the average tourist is unlikely to go there. However, the green link above also contains information about them.

The main advantages of staying in a remote hotel:

  • Many hotels have beaches in bays protected from waves;
  • even if there is a wave on the beaches, there are wonderful pools on their territory.

Main disadvantages:

  • the average cost of a tour to such hotels is higher than to hotels in Nha Trang, since they are usually four- and five-star;
  • you will be removed from Nha Trang and most likely will not see much of what this wonderful city has to offer. That is, in fact, you will not go “to Nha Trang”, but “to a hotel”. If that suits you, then great.

Combined tours

Currently, tour operators offer combined tours to Nha Trang + Mui Ne (Nha Trang + Phan Thiet), often at very reasonable prices. This a good option, all other things being equal: catch the sun in Mui Ne, and feel the drive in Nha Trang. But there will most likely be waves both here and there.

Tours in Mui Ne, Phan Thiet, Phan Rang (Ninh Thuan)

We wrote about Mui Ne and Phan Thiet above. The main message: there will be sun and waves too. If the hotel is good, then you may be lucky with the beach and, perhaps, you will be able to swim in the sea. The issue of swimming is definitely solved if the hotel has a swimming pool.

Phan Rang is a small craft town between Nha Trang and Phan Thiet. Now it is gradually being explored by tour operators offering tours here, as well as Nha Trang travel agencies bringing tourists either on a one- or two-day excursion. In general, it’s worth coming here for those who want a calm, peaceful holiday in small town, in which there are still no crowds of tourists (and everything connected with them - more high prices, intrusive barkers and the like). But for a person accustomed to an active lifestyle, spending two weeks here may be a bit boring.

Tour to Phu Quoc

If the sea without waves, the sun, relative peace and quiet are fundamentally important to you, consider a tour to Phu Quoc Island (we remind you that we are talking about the winter period - from April to October there is a wet season, which, in principle, can also be good). The tourism infrastructure in Fukuoka is still developing, but there are hotels and Wi-Fi. Now it's quiet place in order to relax, without crowds of tourists, shopping centers and the like. If you are ready to spend the entire tour in such an atmosphere, great!

Summary

What should you do if you just read our article about the weather in Nha Trang, but have already bought a ticket? And now all sorts of thoughts are spinning about rain and other joys? Let's relax, inhale and exhale, tune in to the positive and go with pleasure! Nha Trang - a beautiful city. Even if you get caught in the rain and waves, you can always find something to do. But for this you must be in good mood and waiting for a miracle. Go for it!

Those who are always positive and sincerely believe that plus twenty-six is always plus twenty-six, even with rain and waves, feel free to go to Nha Trang in any season (this also applies to winterers). Beach couch potatoes - go to Nha Trang from the second half of March to October, and at other times - in Phan Rang or Phu Quoc! Sloths who are not afraid of waves are welcome to Mui Ne and Phan Thiet.

When going to these places for the first time, it is important to have reliable information about when is the best time to vacation in Vietnam, at what time of year and where.

Northern Vietnam is the oldest part of the country. Its vast expanses are home to numerous coffee plantations, as well as nature reserves. Capital Hanoi is a city in which the influences of East and West are strikingly combined: ancient pagodas and, narrow streets, colonial villas and green French boulevards.

All this is complemented by lakes of magical beauty, surrounded by lush greenery. Northern Vietnam will be of interest to those who want to get acquainted with historical monuments country and plunge into the atmosphere of the Old Town. The best time to go there is in the spring.

South Vietnam ideal for a beach holiday. World-famous resorts are concentrated here ( Mui Ne, peninsula Cam Ranh, bay Nha Trang and others). Any tourist can choose a place to suit his taste: youthful Nha Trang, luxurious Phu Quoc or calm Phan Thiet.

The region is characterized by greater economic development compared to the rest of Vietnam. The climate of the southern coast is tropical, the beach season is the most comfortable and longest.

Beach season

In the winter-spring period, the beach season in Vietnam begins, when it is better to relax in the southern part of the country. At that time large influx tourists from all over the world, the weather in the region is favorable for relaxation, but prices are rising accordingly. In spring it is dry and hot weather installed at all resorts in the country.

It is best to relax on the most famous beach resorts Vietnam during the following periods:

  • Phan Thiet– in the winter months;
  • Hoi An– from April to the end of August;
  • Phu Quoc– from November to March;
  • Nha Trang– from February to September.

Spring is the best time to go to Vietnam on vacation. From March-April, hot weather sets in in the central and southern regions. This best period for active activities and beach holidays. IN Phan Thiet And Mui Ne during the day about +34°C, sea 28°C. IN Nha Trang slightly cooler.

On Fukuoka very warm nights, and daytime temperatures in spring are about 32°C. In the northern region you can swim only from the end of April, when the temperature reaches +23°C.

Rainy season in Vietnam

This period varies in different regions of the country. In the south it lasts from May to November. During the rainy season there is a very high humidity due to short but heavy rainfall. Air temperature is about +27°C. Not all tourists avoid traveling to the country at this time; some do not consider the rains to be a hindrance. Prices during this period decrease significantly, and the sea remains warm.

In northern Vietnam, the rainy season lasts from April to November. When going to this region, it is advisable to wear warm clothes. In the central region, tropical rainfall occurs from December to April. Short rains occur frequently and the air temperature is quite low.

The hotel rooms are cool and very humid as they are not heated. The ocean is stormy, and swimming is most often impossible, as warned by red flags on the beaches.

On south coast The wet season begins in May and ends closer to November. Short-term rains, about 30-40 minutes, alternate with sunny weather. At the same time, the air temperature decreases slightly.

The period when it is better to avoid traveling to Vietnam is from August to November. At this time, there is a high probability of typhoons, which are life-threatening. This must be taken into account when deciding when is the best time to vacation in Vietnam.

How to save on a trip

When planning a vacation in Vietnam (when is the best time to go to spend less), you need to take into account that the most profitable trips are during the rainy season. At this time, the cost of vacation is lower than usual, so tourists often book places in advance. The flow of tourists is slightly decreasing.

Despite the showers, the air temperature in the southern resorts only decreases slightly (+28-29°C). In addition, the rains are fleeting and the sea remains warm (+27-28°C). Showers occur more often in the afternoon, during the most extreme heat and last only 30-40 minutes, so they do not always interfere with rest.

In winter, prices for tours are the highest, this is caused by increased competition. In other resorts, the tourist season has already closed and the number of people arriving in Vietnam to relax cold winter, increases sharply. Most of the visitors come on the eve, which causes a significant increase in the cost of travel packages. The rest of the time prices are quite stable.

For those who prefer picturesque places, it is better to choose the dry season for vacation. For lovers fishing This period is also worth preferring. There are several options for this activity in Vietnam: fishing in the open sea, in rivers and mountain lakes. Fishing equipment can be rented from residents.

The dry season in the country lasts from January to April, so when deciding when is the best time to go to Vietnam for a seaside holiday, you need to understand that this is the most favorable time for beach activities. During this period, you can go to any region of the country and visit all resort places in Vietnam.

Rainy season in Vietnam

The wet season in the regions of the republic occurs in different months. On south(which includes the main resorts - Phan Thiet, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc, Vung Tau) it begins in May and lasts until November. At this time, the humidity is very high, and short-term tropical downpours occur. There are cloudy, cool and fresh days with gusty winds. The average temperature is about +27°C. For the shortest rainy season. Tourists usually avoid traveling to Vietnam during the rainy season, but some travelers believe that tropical rains are no big deal and come to the country during this time.

IN center In Vietnam, the rainy season lasts from December to April. At this time, we do not recommend visiting the resorts of Danang, Hue and Hoi An. We just spent December 2014 and early January 2015 in these cities. The rains, although short-lived, are frequent, and quite cool (not +25°C at all, as they usually write, but, it feels like, about +10...+15°C). The hotels do not have central heating, so the rooms are cold and you can easily catch a cold. It is very humid, clothes and shoes do not dry. We recommend having strong raincoats. It is impossible to swim because the ocean is stormy, and red flags are hung on the beaches. True, sometimes there are sunny days (or at least cloudy, but without precipitation), when you can see the sights. The resort where the most precipitation falls, according to our observations, is Hue.

On a note: during the wet season there may be typhoons (usually in the center of the country, less often in the south and north). From the second half of October to the second half of December, Danang and Hue fall under their destructive effects.

On north The country's wet season lasts from April to November. However, it sometimes rains in winter: we were there in January 2015, and, as in the case of the center of Vietnam, we would not recommend visiting the region without warm clothes, suitable shoes and raincoats. It's cold in Hanoi, temperature +10...+20°С. In Halong the situation is better: it is almost always sunny, but in the mornings and evenings it is quite cool.

Beach season

The beach holiday season in the south of Vietnam falls in the winter-spring period ( December - April) - this is the best time to fly on vacation. During these months there are many visitors from Russia, China, Europe and the USA, weather lovely, but prices are rising. In spring, dry and warm weather already along the entire coast. May - June is the most comfortable time to relax in the central part of Vietnam.

In Nha Trang it is often cloudy, +26°C during the day, +22°C at night, the sea is cloudy and warm +24°C, in Da Nang +22...+24°C. In Fukuoka, clear and calm water is +27°C, clear during the day +32°C, at night +23°C.

Fruit season in Vietnam

Even Vietnam can envy the abundance of fruits. Mango and jackfruit season starts in March and lasts until summer. Avocados, rambutans and lychees appear in April, and mangosteens appear in early summer. Citrons and cherimoya ripen in June, tropical plums in July, and persimmons appear in August. The season of these fruits is not very long - only 3-4 months, and they can be found on sale until the end of the calendar autumn.

In November, the first winter fruits appear - local tangerines; in December - star apples(starapple). Durians also appear in January, but the season of these exotic fruits is much longer and lasts until October. The most delicious longan ripens from May to July, but you can buy it at any time of the year.

From our own experience we can say that Vietnam is the fruitiest country South-East Asia. It seems that fruit season in Vietnam is all year round: oranges, pineapples, pomelo, watermelon, melons, bananas, grapes, papaya, sapodilla, guava, pomelo, coconut, dragonfruit - there is no shortage of fruits here, we always found them everywhere, moreover at low prices (except that in the north of the country prices are higher, and the cheapest fruit is in the south).
