It's a bird - a large falcon, a stenophage, specializing in feeding on white mottled birds. Inhabits mainly the forest-tundra zone of Russia and real tundras Eastern Siberia, nests sporadically in the vast forest and swamp areas of the taiga of North-West Russia, Western Siberia, in the mountain tundras of Eastern Siberia and Kamchatka. In winter, it roams in the habitat of white partridges. Included in the Red Book of Russia and Appendix I of the CITES Convention. Inhabits forest, forest-tundra and tundra zones of Russia, in the forests of the European part of Russia (ER) and Western Siberia it is closely associated with large wetland complexes. It migrates for the winter, although some birds winter in the cities of the forest-steppe and steppe zones of Russia. The previously large tree-nesting population of the EPR has completely died out.
