December 5 at the Research Institute of Emergency Medicine named after N.V. Sklifosofsky test pilot Sergei Rybnikov, a former cadet at the Barnaul Flight School, died. A day earlier, he and his partner performed a test flight of the MiG-29KUB aircraft in the Moscow region, during which the aircraft crashed. Sergei ejected too late - he steered the plane away from residential buildings until the last moment...

“Seryoga was ideological”

The plane crashed a few meters from the school and a neighboring house; no one on the ground was injured. Sergei’s colleague landed safely, but Sergei himself was not so lucky.

They wrote about Sergei Rybnikov and Vadim Selivanov on the Internet and showed them on television news. Meanwhile, Sergei studied at the Barnaul Higher Aviation Pilot School from 1995 to 1998. And his wife Yulia is a resident of Rubtsovsk. They met in Barnaul 17 years ago.

“He was so charming, so smart, so cool, it was impossible not to fall in love with him,” says Yulia. “We met by chance at a disco at school, then he found me, invited me for a walk, we walked half the city, chatted for three or four hours. I always thought that under no circumstances would I marry a military man, but you can’t argue with fate.”

The young people got married and... separated for two years: Yulia graduated from the philological department of Altai State University, and Sergei, after the school was disbanded in Barnaul, went to continue his studies at the Armavir Military Aviation Institute.

Sergei's fellow students in Barnaul recall:

Seryoga was ideological. At that time people entered the school according to various reasons: some served in the army and transferred to some polytechnic school, some escaped from the army and thought that it would be easier here, some completely by accident. And Seryoga always knew what he wanted.

“There were excellent students on the course except Seryoga, but I personally never saw him prepare for classes. The rest taught, crammed, but Seryoga listened to the lectures, consolidated them in practice, and that’s all,” says close friend Serezhi Evgeniy Lenchik. “Of course, there were some hooligans,” Evgeniy recalls with a smile. - I remember one incident. In 1996, a central road was assigned to our course - from the checkpoint along the educational department to the parade ground. It was winter, there was a lot of snow. And this had to happen, on this road one of the battalion commanders left his old GDR minibus. We went out to clean the area, and at that time Major General Maksimov, the head of the school, passed by. Seeing the car, he asked what this aerodynamic squalor was doing here and ordered it to be removed. Orders are not discussed. And we buried the car in the snow, leveled the edges - in general, this minibus turned out to be an excellent army coffin. So this platoon commander lost his car, and then dug it up himself. And Seryoga took a direct part in this disgrace.”

After studying in Armavir, excellent student Rybnikov was assigned to serve in a combat air regiment in Leningrad region, and in 2002 he became a test pilot for the Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG.

Endless energy was in full swing, reminiscent of a hurricane, which itself was rapidly rushing somewhere and spinning everyone around. It seemed that Sergei was in a hurry to live. Yulina’s mother, Valentina Nikolaevna Shmeleva, recalls: “We almost never saw him lying on the sofa watching the TV. When Yulia and the children came to visit us in Rubtsovsk, they developed a very busy schedule; in two weeks they visited Savvushka, White Lake, Gorkoye Lake, Yarovoe Lake, Kolyvanskoye Lake, climbed Mount Sinyukha with two daughters, whom Seryozha periodically carried in his arms. My husband and I visited Lukhovitsy and Ramenskoye every year. Seryozha could not sit still, his thirst for life and activity was inexhaustible. Strong, reliable, responsible, with a sense of humor. His friend was surprised: “Wow, how much you love your mother-in-law - you take her to the sea, but I only take mine to the clinic!”

With the engine on fire

“He took care of me, hid how dangerous his job was, how often he had to risk his life. He told me that he doesn’t do anything special, that it’s just flying, just a routine. In 2004, in the city of Lukhovitsy, she and a colleague landed with a burning engine, I learned about this incident only a year or two later, when he was nominated for an award,” says Yulia. “His colleagues loved and appreciated him, he always strived to do everything perfectly.” I got everything on flights necessary information, then, together with the engineers, he analyzed it in detail, he constantly had questions and comments, he was eager to learn, and had great respect for professionals, for those who were as passionate about their work as he was.

I always hoped that nothing would happen to him. That day, as usual, he went to work, was going to the pool in the evening, had a lot of plans for the weekend... But knowing him, I still had no doubt that in a critical situation he would think first about those on earth, then about the car, and last but not least about myself.”

And so it happened. During the mission, something went wrong at the final stage of the flight; the plane did not have enough altitude to exit. The crew commander, Rybnikov, decided to eject. My partner was the first to leave the plane, and Sergei, taking the plane away, jumped out second...

Saved hundreds of lives

December 4th able clinical death with severe injuries he was taken to intensive care unit Research Institute of Emergency Medicine named after N.V. Sklifosovsky, where he died the next day without regaining consciousness. His wife was at the crash site in the village of Chemodurovo, Voskresensky district, Moscow region, talking with eyewitnesses. “The hair on my head was moving with horror, it seemed that he simply could not escape fate,” says Yulia. - The words local residents, Sergei literally laid the plane between the school yard and the neighboring house. It fell so neatly that it didn’t hit anything at all, not a single fence fell down. Many people wrote to me on social networks with words of support and gratitude. And on my husband’s page too:

“This terrible tragedy happened in my village. Your husband is a hero capital letters! At the cost of his life, he saved and protected the lives of hundreds of residents and children..."

“Thank you Sergei! At the cost of his life, he saved the children in our school. A real Russian officer! I pulled the car all the way out! Relatives and friends, please accept our sincere condolences.”

Sergei Rybnikov was buried on December 8 at the memorial cemetery in the city of Zhukovsky with honors as a hero.

Someday mom will tell you about this youngest daughter Pelageya, who is now not even six months old. And also about what an honest, energetic, enthusiastic person Dad was, magically combined work, home, children, hobbies. “It’s very sad that the youngest won’t remember her dad, but he waited for her so much, loved her so much,” says Yulia.
