Weapons (played here by a customizable multi-tool) have several core technologies that can be upgraded. Depending on the installed upgrades, you can fight more effectively, extract resources faster, or scan the flora and fauna of the visited planet. Spacesuit modules, of course, improve your survivability and, for example, when installed jetpack, the ability to reach hard-to-reach places or even explore underground tunnels without fear of getting stuck in them. Materials for upgrades can be found on different planets, and you will have to figure out which ones yourself, from plutonium, carbon and silicon to a great many others. The availability of resources on the planet is influenced by various factors, such as the distance to other planets or the local sun.
