An unusual landmark is located on the border between Venezuela, Brazil and Havana - apparently, she still couldn’t decide in which country she wanted to “live.” This object even “lit up” in Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel “The Lost World” - praise to Mount Roraima.

On English language the name of the mountain is Roraima. Located she is in South America and, as is clear from the paragraph above, has triple citizenship. The area of the attraction is 34 square kilometers. The highest point of the object is 2810 meters above sea level. Several rivers originate from here: the Amazon, Orinoco and Essequibo.

To be honest, the place looks very mystical - sheer cliff, shrouded in white clouds and fog. Based on its shape, a mountain of this type is called a table mountain (the flat surface of the top is distinctive feature similar objects).

This mountain first became known thanks to researchers Robert Schomburg and Yves Serne - in the forties of the 19th century they discovered it during expeditions across South America. The report on the trip did not create a sensation, so the discovery was soon forgotten. Even to a greater extent, these documents were considered rather fictitious stories, since the pages contained such phrases as “colorful water” and “animals that have lived on Earth since prehistoric times.”

The second time they heard about the mountain was in 1935 (a whole century after its discovery!). One of these days pilot Juan Angel lost his route, he flew for a long time in search of a “way out.” Then he saw a small river, which at that time was not marked on any of the maps. The pilot decided to fly along the riverbed. The nameless river led him to two mountains - Juan gained height and saw a mountain plateau. Without hesitation, the pilot decided to land the ship right on this flat top - he was only able to slow down in a swamp. No matter how Angel tried to pull the plane out, nothing worked. The way home (on foot and in all alone!) took Angel two weeks. This journey inspired the writing of a story, but this story was also mistaken for fiction (that's what people are like!).

Several decades later, the pilot’s son (Rolland) was able to organize expedition and prove to the whole world that history took place. During this hike, many discoveries were made - the landmark was studied far and wide.

Local Indians reported that Roraima - damn mountain. The words of the aborigines are not accidental:

Firstly, there is not a single piece of land at the top where there is no struck by lightning!

Secondly, this is where the unusual or even anomalous originates. waterfall, while it is the largest in the world. Its originality lies in the fact that the falling stream of water is the source!

Thirdly, those same vaunted “ prehistoric animals"turned out to be reality. In addition to a large number of the usual possums/frogs/lizards, giant snake. Well, she was 15 meters tall, and her head was too painful strange shape+ suspicious bulges on the back. The next “UFO” animals were ants measuring five centimeters in size!

Fourthly, during the study we found remains various animals of prehistoric times! Who knows, maybe if people listened to the speeches of Robert Schomburg, then maybe they even managed to see dinosaurs alive!

How can such a place exist without myths?! The story goes that Mount Roraima is a stump that remains from giant tree(it went all the way to heaven). One of the heroes of folklore (Makunaima) cut down a plant - the trunk collapsed and caused a flood.

The attraction still surprises scientists. So, in the 21st century a network was found quartz caves, and even the largest in the world! They nicknamed it “Cueva Ojos De Cristal,” which translated means “Cave of Crystal Eyes” (as if mysticism wasn’t enough?!). Length natural object– 11 kilometers, and depth – 75 meters. And the most important thing is that inside the cave they were discovered drawings unknown animals and some humanoids (the mountain clearly has a connection with space!).

Modern tourists are not afraid of anything. Therefore, poisonous snakes + a dangerous climb are not a hindrance for lovers of interesting things. Every year expeditions are sent to this area, and almost always they return with some new discovery!

Mount Roraima, also called the “sky island,” is located at the junction of Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana. The peak of the mountain with an area of 31 sq. km is striking in its size. Roraima is one of the oldest geological formations on Earth, as it consists mainly of quartz sandstone, which is about 1 billion years old!

The Indians believe that this mountain is the petrified remnant of the trunk of a huge tree that gave birth to all the fruits and vegetables of our planet. According to legend, the tree fell from the ax of Macunaim, the negative hero of Indian legends.

This mountain is also called the “mother of all rivers”, because the Orinoco, Essequibo and Amazon originate at its top. Rivers flow from the “sky island” down steep slopes in dozens of beautiful waterfalls.

It is believed that the gods lived on the flat top, so the table mountains are also called “tepui”, meaning “home of the gods”. The Indians believed that this is where the souls of the dead fly. Therefore, before the arrival of Europeans, no one climbed to Roraima, fearing to anger the sleeping ancestors and powerful deities.

Even today there are indigenous Indians who believe in the gods of the sacred mountain, rewarding people who still worship them with insight. By the way, it was Roraima who inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write the legendary novel “The Lost World”.

The flat mountain sometimes resembles a ship cutting through the skies on an eternal journey to the valley of dreams, dreams and desires. Once you reach the top, a storm of emotions will overwhelm you. What you saw is impossible to forget and the echoes of blissful euphoria will excite your blood even after years. Perhaps this is a piece of the gift of the gods, glorified in ancient legends?

Mount Roraima, Venezuela is part of the Guiana Plateau, which is also called the “land of tepui” (tepui - “home of the gods”). This rock is the highest in this area - its height is 2723 m.

What does Mount Roraima represent in Venezuela?

Table Mountains - Heritage huge plateau, which once occupied the area from the Atlantic to deep rivers (Amazon, Orinoco). These tepuis consist of a single fragment of Precambrian quartzite or sandstone with gullies, caves and sinkholes.

The flora and fauna of Mount Roraima are unique because they are absolutely at the foot of the mountain. Many species of orchids and carnivorous plants are common on the plateau.

The mysterious story of the discovery of a natural landmark

The first European explorers to enter the plateau were Robert Schaumbroke and Yves Serne. Their report, published in a German scientific publication, was ridiculed by scientists. It is unlikely that the story about springs with multi-colored water, living prehistoric lizards, and a huge number of previously unknown plant species may seem plausible to anyone. The researchers even described the change of day and night in an unusual way: for several days the bright sun shone on the plateau, which could be replaced by pitch darkness in seconds.

For about a century, the lands remained inaccessible to scientific expeditions: lush vegetation and relief features reliably protected the unique ecosystem from unexpected guests. In 1937, Venezuelan airline pilot Juan Angel lost his course and discovered a previously unknown river that was not on the maps of that time. He flew along a reservoir and ended up in a narrow gorge from which it was impossible to get out - there was no room for maneuver. Miraculously, he landed the plane on a plateau and survived.

Landing in a lost area resulted in the loss of a vehicle (the plane got stuck in a quagmire). A 2-week wandering began through dense forests teeming with dangerous plants and animals. Angel was able to find Indian settlements and thanks to this he survived. He soon described his flight and wanderings through an unknown land in his book. It is not difficult to guess the fate of this work - the author was ridiculed, and the text was classified as fantasy: no one took such stories seriously.

Continuing the journey to lands full of mysticism

In 1966, 10 years after the death of his father, Juan Angel's son, Rolland, launched a large expedition into the abandoned lands of the plateau. What was written in the scientist’s diaries looked no less fantastic than the stories of his father and the publications of a hundred years ago. Rolland Angel described an unusual biosystem and animal world. During the expedition, the highest waterfall on the river was discovered, named after the discoverer - Angel. Of particular value were the found bones of prehistoric animals that died relatively recently. In addition, the expedition discovered a perfectly round and smooth area, sprinkled with a strange metal powder - the place gave rise to many rumors about UFOs.

Has Mount Roraima, Venezuela, natural pools and many caves. On their walls, researchers discovered stunning drawings depicting creatures that bear little resemblance to humans. The expedition almost ended in failure: several people were poisoned by unknown gases, which caused hallucinations and a state of lethargic sleep. After this event, the head of the expedition decided to return home, but the mysterious mountain did not let go of the people who had learned some of its secrets. The radios and some of the equipment were broken, the maps compiled turned out to be useless - the terrain was unrecognizable.

Only a few months later research group returned: people were on the verge of exhaustion and nervous breakdown. They said that they were picked up and carefully dropped in the area of the Indian settlement. Nobody expected the return of the expedition - the relatives mentally buried the scientists who went missing 4 years ago.

Mount Roraima became the prototype for the area from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World.

In addition, Mount Roraima, Venezuela, is a peat pool with unique plants, rivers with a bottom covered with rock crystal, lakes with pink water and impassable quagmire. Today the area is organized sightseeing tours. Visitors are especially impressed by the ponds - a fifth of the tepui is covered with water.

In the southeast of Venezuela (South America) there are unusual mountains with truncated, flat tops - tepui, which in the language of the indigenous Pemon Indians means “house of the gods”. These mountains are some of the oldest formations on Earth, dating back about 2 billion years from the Precambrian period and are the remains of vast plateau, once stretching from the coast Atlantic Ocean to the borders of the Amazon, Orinoco and Rio Negro river basins. They resemble huge tables and mostly stand isolated from each other, rising above the jungle with inaccessible cliffs.

Roraima is the highest table mountain in Venezuela, reaching a height of 2810 meters. It is located at the junction of Brazil (Roraima state), Venezuela ( National Park Canaima) and Guyana. The surface area of the plateau of the “big blue-green mountain,” as it is also called, is about 34 km². Local Indians call it the “navel of the earth,” believing that the goddess Queen, the ancestor of all people, lives at the very top of the mountain.

There is always a large cloud hanging over Roraima, almost every day it's raining, the weather changes quickly and often. Water covers about a fifth of the plateau: peat bogs, bright pink puddles, crystal clear lakes, fast-flowing rivers, the beds of which are strewn with rock crystals for several hundred meters. Due to the abundance of rainfall, it falls from Roraima great amount water, and at its foot the Amazon, Orinoco and Essequibo rivers originate.

From a distance it seems that the plateau above is absolutely flat, but in fact it is full of chaotic piles of stone placers, canyons and steep hills. The layers of sandstone that make up the mountain are destroyed unequally, forming bizarre figures, some of which look like giant mushrooms, others - to fairytale castles. Almost the entire surface of the mountain plateau is black from the microscopic algae that inhabit the top layer of the stone. Only in those places where the sandstone is not exposed to the sun and rain or is regularly washed with water, its true color - bright pink - appears.

For a long time this beautiful mountain remained inaccessible and unexplored. Only the bravest Indians overcame the difficult path to the lands enchanted, according to their beliefs, through almost impassable swamps and dense thickets equatorial forest, and then told their fellow tribesmen about the amazing plateau with steep walls, cascades of waterfalls and unusual rivers with red and black waters.

German explorer Robert Schomburgk visited the area in 1835. He was amazed by the table mountains, but attempts to climb one of them were unsuccessful. Only almost half a century later, in 1884, a British expedition led by Sir Everard im Thurn managed to climb to the top of Mount Roraima. The report of this expedition seemed fantastic to everyone. It was hard to imagine that somewhere there could be a world where time runs differently, flows colorful rivers, plants unknown to science grow and animals and birds live that lived on Earth in prehistoric times. This report on uncharted lands inspired famous writer Arthur Conan Doyle for the creation of the science fiction novel “The Lost World”.

Further studies of the plateau with unusual mountains continued only almost a hundred years later thanks to the Venezuelan pilot Juan Angel. In 1937, while flying over the Orinoco River basin, he saw a tributary that was not indicated on the maps. Continuing his flight upstream of the river, Angel suddenly discovered that it was no longer possible to turn to the side, since he was surrounded by rocks on both sides. Following the only possible course, he landed on a plateau, which turned out to be unsuccessful - the plane got stuck in a swampy place.

The pilot traveled for 11 days to the nearest Indian settlement, and upon returning home, he wrote a book about amazing places. However, they again did not believe in the reality of what was written, considering everything to be the pilot’s invention. Angel was planning to return to the plateau, but was unable to do so, as a few years later he died in a plane crash. And only in the late 1960s, the pilot’s son, Rolland, was able to organize a full-scale expedition to those regions, based on which a description of the plateau was created. From the expedition diary:

The plateau turned out to be a monolithic rock with unusual outlines. In the middle of the flat surface there are mushroom-like hills, and peculiar depressions in the form of not very large saucers filled with water are scattered everywhere. highest point plateau - a mountain 2810 meters high is separated from other terrain by deep and wide cracks, which are impossible to cross without stairs.

During his research, Rolland found out that the Indians consider Roraima a bad place because it attracts numerous lightning bolts that strike the surface of its peak almost every day. There is not a single tree on the plateau that has not been damaged by them.

The fauna of the Roraima plateau is not very rich in diversity, but it surprises with its unique representatives, most of which are endemic, found only on the tops of tepuis or generally only on Roraima. Many inhabitants of this area are colored black, even dragonflies and butterflies. Also found on the plateau are noses, capybaras (capybaras), mice, lizards, several species of birds, spiders, predatory leeches and scorpions. The most amazing representatives of the plateau fauna are miniature, about a centimeter in size, black toads, which tend to whistle before the rain. Each large tepui has its own special type of these frogs.

Amazingly, the prehistoric animals that lived in Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World also turned out to be real. After several days on the plateau, the researchers encountered a 15-meter snake, whose head was strangely shaped and had unusual bulges on its back. Amazed travelers and giant ants more than 5 cm long, able to bite small branches with their steel jaws, as well as frogs, like birds, hatching frog babies.

Capybaras are the largest rodents

Numerous remains of prehistoric animals were discovered that seemed to have died quite recently. In addition, the expedition accidentally stumbled upon a perfectly round area, completely devoid of vegetation, sprinkled with a strange silvery metal powder. A later chemical analysis showed that such a powder could not be obtained in terrestrial conditions.

In the legends of local residents, Roraima has always, in one way or another, been associated with heavenly guests. In the mythology of the inhabitants of Gran Sabana, Roraima has always played important role, present in a number of cosmogonic myths. This mountain, according to the aborigines, is a stump left from a mighty tree on which all the fruits and tubers of the world grew. It was cut down by Makunaima, the hero of legends. The trunk fell to the ground and caused a monstrous flood. It is possible that such a legend may describe certain guests from heaven, whose actions caused a major natural disaster. Roraima is considered the source of all diamonds mined in the area, but the Indians do not approach it, fearing evil spirits.

In the 2000s, the world's largest quartz cave system, Cueva Ojos De Cristal, which translates to “Cave of Crystal Eyes,” was discovered on the mountain. The cave extends for almost 11 kilometers in length, descending to a depth of 72 meters from the surface. It is also unique in that it has 18 outputs. In the cave, scientists discovered rock paintings depicting unusual animals and humanoids that only vaguely resemble humans.

Peter Pohl, a popular German researcher, author of the theory of the hollow Earth, believes that Roraima is not a mountain at all, but an artificially created pyramid:

First of all, the mountain is interesting for its shape. It looks like it was carved out of a single, monolithic rock formation. If you pay attention to its vertical walls, which have smooth surfaces, you can see how straight vertical lines are formed at the junction of the sides. The height of the upper vertical wall reaches 400 meters. The angled bevel creates fairly crisp top and bottom lines all the way around. The height of the ledge reaches 170 meters.

On one of the vertical sides, 230 meters high, located below the upper ledge, there are two identical oval symmetrical recesses. Their symmetry speaks in favor of artificial processing of these surfaces. The mountain at its base has a lower corner symmetrical protrusion along its entire perimeter with a height of about 350 meters. Thus, the total height of the pyramid reaches 1150 meters from its base. Judging by the condition of the surfaces and deposits on the upper and lower corner ledges, the age of this formation is very significant. If you carry out a partial reconstruction of one of its sides, you can build a model of the original shape of the mountain facade. And here there is no doubt: we are dealing with a monumental structure, which was once a huge pyramid of an unusual shape.

I do not rule out that its creators undoubtedly belonged to a highly developed civilization. This is evidenced by the myths of the Indians, for whom Mount Roraima is associated with the existence of the gods. In fact, the pyramid could have had several plausible purposes. For example, this is an isolated landing area aircraft, connected by tunnels with others similar formations and other parts of the continent. It may also have been conceived as a huge special building with interior spaces.

At the top of the mountain there is a stone labyrinth into which several rivers flow. People often disappear there. Therefore, local guides do not go there and discourage tourists from taking a dangerous walk. Perhaps it is in this place that there is a descent into the depths that hide the mysteries of Roraima.

In 1993, the valley at the foot of Mount Roraima served as the location for filming the famous science fiction film Steven Spielberg - "Park" Jurassic" The creators of the cartoons also paid attention to the famous Venezuelan mountain. In 2009, the Disney/Pixar film studio released the cartoon “Up,” in which the action takes place on Roraima. The film also includes a short film, "Adventures Out There," which follows the Pixar team's journey to Roraima in search of creative ideas and inspiration for the animated film "Up."

MYSTERIES OF THE RORAIMA PLATEAU.

Roraima, one of the most inaccessible mountains of the Guiana Plateau. IN early XIX centuries, a rare local resident, not to mention foreigners, has been to its summit.

Smooth steep walls, a wide plateau at the top, and most importantly, a constant dense fog that hides the top of the mountain from the casual observer at its foot... Similar mountains are called ambas in Ethiopia, and mesas in Venezuela. In everyday life, these mountains are called table mountains based on the shape of their peaks.

The first Europeans to discover and describe the largest mesa South America- Roraima in the 40s of the 19th century, there were the German explorer Robert Schomburg and the English botanist Yves Serne. True, their report turned out to be somewhat... fantastic. It featured rivers with colorful water, as well as animals and birds that lived on Earth in prehistoric times.

Relatively reliable information about the Roraima mesa was obtained only almost a hundred years later thanks to the Venezuelan pilot Juan Angel. The story of his arrival at Roraima is very reminiscent of an adventure novel. One day in 1935, flying over the Orinoco River basin, he lost his course and, after wandering for some time over the impenetrable jungle, ended up over a small river not marked on any map of this region.

Deciding that the river would sooner or later lead him out of the jungle, the pilot continued his flight along its bed. However, he soon noticed that he was no longer flying over the jungle, but between two mountains. Having gained altitude with difficulty, Angel was still able to land on a plateau, which turned out to be the top of Roraima. But even here trouble awaited him: the plane was able to slow down and stop only in a swamp, from which the pilot was no longer able to roll out the heavy machine on his own.

Angel descended from the mountain for more than two weeks, and when he got home, he wrote a story about amazing flora and the fauna of the mysterious peak.

However, this time too the public mistook the story about the life of a mountain plateau as a pilot’s fantasy. Only in the late 1960s was the son of the pilot Rolland able to equip a full-scale expedition to Roraima.

During his research, Rolland found out that the Indians who considered Roraima damn place, are not far from the truth. We can say that the mountain is cursed by the gods, as lightning constantly strikes it. On a plateau with an area of almost 34 square kilometers, there is not a single meter of land that has never been struck by lightning. But this is just the beginning of the wonderful anomalies.

On an amazing plateau, travelers discovered the largest waterfall in the world! Moreover, if usually a waterfall is the end of a river, then it was the other way around: the falling stream of water itself was the source of the river.
The highest point of the plateau is a mountain 2,810 meters high. Huge cracks radiate from it, which are simply impossible to overcome without special bridges.

Amazingly, the prehistoric animals that lived in Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World also turned out to be real. At first, the travelers did not encounter anything unusual. What appeared before their eyes were opossums, lizards, frogs for some reason black in color, spiders and snakes. Species of butterflies unknown to science looked unusual. Only after a few days on the plateau, the researchers encountered the first amazing animal that could easily live on the pages of The Lost World.

Mysterious world Roraima

It turned out to be a fifteen-meter snake with a strangely shaped head and unusual bulges on its back. Following the snake, the travelers saw giant ants more than five centimeters long, as well as frogs, like birds, hatching eggs. Fortunately for the researchers, they never encountered any dinosaurs.

But they found numerous remains of prehistoric animals that seemed to have died quite recently. To top off all the wonders, the expedition, not far from the waterfall, accidentally stumbled upon a perfectly round area, completely devoid of vegetation, sprinkled with a strange silver-colored metal powder. Subsequent chemical analysis showed that such a powder could not be obtained under terrestrial conditions. It would seem that there are not many sensations for just one mountain?

It turned out not! In the legends of local residents, Roraima has always been connected in one way or another with heavenly guests. In the mythology of the aborigines - the Pemon Indians, Capons and other inhabitants of Gran Sabana - Roraima has always played an important role, being present in a number of cosmogonic myths. This mountain, according to the aborigines, is a stump left from a mighty tree on which all the fruits and tubers of the world grew. It was cut down by Makunaima, the hero of legends. The trunk fell to the ground and caused a monstrous flood.

It is possible that such a legend may describe some guests from the sky, whose actions caused a major natural disaster.

In the 2000s, it was discovered on the mountain largest system quartz caves in the world - Cueva Ojos De Cristal, which translated means “Cave of Crystal Eyes”. The cave extends for almost 11 kilometers in length, descending to a depth of 72 meters from the surface. It is also unique in that it has 18 outputs. In the cave, scientists discovered rock paintings depicting unusual animals and humanoids that only vaguely resemble humans.

Today, despite the dangerous rise and a large number of poisonous snakes at its peak, Roraima is constantly visited by tourists and expeditions, almost each of which reveals another previously unknown secret of this amazing place.

Peter Pohl, a popular German researcher, author of the theory of the hollow Earth, believes that Roraima is not a mountain at all, but an artificially created pyramid. In an interview with Igor Strizhenov, he explained in detail why.

Peter, why did Mount Roraima attract your attention?
- First of all, the mountain is interesting for its shape. It looks like it was carved out of a single, monolithic rock formation. If you pay attention to its vertical walls, which have smooth surfaces, you can see how smooth vertical lines are formed at the junction of the sides. The height of the upper vertical wall reaches 400 meters. The angled bevel creates fairly crisp top and bottom lines all the way around. The height of the ledge reaches 170 meters.

Caves of Roraima.

Do you plan to somehow test the guess about the man-made origin of the mountain?

Yes, I am sure that under the layer of numerous sediments it will be possible to discover well-preserved artificially processed surfaces, as well as artifacts that can confirm the man-made origin of this grandiose structure.

If the mountain is indeed of artificial origin, then for what purposes and by whom was it created?

I do not rule out that its creators undoubtedly belonged to a highly developed civilization. This is evidenced by the myths of the Indians, for whom Mount Roraima is associated with the existence of the gods. In fact, the pyramid could have had several plausible purposes. For example, this is an isolated landing site for aircraft, connected by tunnels to other similar formations and other parts of the continent. It may also have been conceived as a huge special building with interior spaces.

In the language of the Pemon Indians, roroi means “blue-green”, and ma means “great”, “big”. Thus, the name "Roraima" translated from the local dialect means "big blue-green mountain". In the mythology of the Pemons, Capons and other representatives of the indigenous population of South America, Roraima played an important cosmogonic role. According to the aborigines, this is a stump left from a mighty tree on which all the fruits and vegetables of the world grew. It was cut down by the legendary hero Macunaima, after which the trunk fell to the ground and caused a monstrous flood...

Has Roraima been explored to the end?

Its rocks, of course, were studied by climbers, but not completely. Theoretically, you can climb to the top along a mountain path; it will take about two days. However, during the ascent, the traveler risks getting into a cloud of dense fog, so you need to be especially careful.

At the top of the mountain there is a stone labyrinth into which several rivers flow. People often disappear there. Therefore, local guides do not go there and discourage tourists from taking a dangerous walk. Perhaps it is in this place that there is a descent into the depths that hide the mysteries of Roraima.

For a long time, scientists were convinced that caves could not exist here. However, in 2009, the world's largest quartz cave system was discovered in these places. It was named Cueva Ojos de Cristal, which translated from Spanish means “cave of crystal eyes.” The system is located on the Venezuelan part of the mountain, in the territory National Park Canaima. It extends almost 11 kilometers in length and descends to a depth of 72 meters from the surface. The cave system is also unique in that it has 18 exits.

You think that the mountain is of artificial origin. However, in this case, local peoples legends about the true builders of the pyramid should have been preserved.

Undoubtedly! Legends tell about Roraima - the Mother of the Great Waters, a fabulous plateau. This mountain is considered the source of all diamonds mined in the area, but the Indians do not approach it, fearing evil spirits. It is characteristic that the plateau local residents called the “lost world of the gods.”

Is there a practical explanation for this?

Only after careful research will it be possible to answer many questions regarding the depths of the mountain. An analogy can be drawn with the giant formations discovered on Mars. However, I still assume that the pyramid mountain had technical purpose. Two symmetrical oval formations may turn out to be concave mirror-emitters directed parallel to the Earth.

In addition, I have some confidence that the caves and tunnels of Roraima are connected with global system tunnels stretching under the entire South American continent. I hope that answers to all questions will be received during the expedition of the National Geographical Society Russia, planned for the summer of 2013.

Mount Roraima has another unusual feature: it attracts numerous lightning bolts, which almost every day strike the surface of its top and it is already very difficult to find a tree here that has not been damaged by thunderstorm activity. The unearthly landscapes of Venezuelan tepuis inspired not only the writing of science fiction novels, but also the creation of feature films, documentaries and even animated films. In 1993, the valley at the foot of Mount Roraima served as the location for the filming of the famous science fiction film Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg.

In 2008, an educational educational documentary"Authentic Lost World", dedicated to the Roraima plateau. It describes the fascinating adventures of a modern team of explorers who followed in the footsteps of the first conquerors of the summit, Ima Thurn and Harry Perkins.

The creators of the cartoons also paid attention to the famous Venezuelan mountain. In 2009, the Disney/Pixar film studio released the cartoon “Up,” in which the action takes place on Roraima. The film also includes a short film, "Adventures Out There," which follows the Pixar team's journey to Roraima in search of creative ideas and inspiration for the animated film "Up."

Local Indians call the mountain the “navel of the earth” and believe that the goddess Queen, the ancestor of all people, lives at the very top of the mountain. Despite the fact that all tepuis are houses of the gods, it is Roraima that is considered a holy place. It is almost always surrounded by whitish clouds, giving it a mysterious quality that cannot but attract adventurers and admirers of beauty. For a long time beautiful mountain South America remained inaccessible and unexplored. Only the bravest Indians overcame the difficult path to the lands enchanted, according to their beliefs, through almost impassable swamps and forests.
