But, of course, the greatest value is fresh cloudberry (berry). The following photo illustrates the most common dietary dish with it. This is sauerkraut with the addition of carrots, cranberries and cloudberries. The dressing is water and spices.

There are no diets that consist only of cloudberries (the so-called mono-diets). But it is an established fact that by adding it to your diet, you will significantly improve your body’s health and help you get rid of extra pounds.

How to use

It’s good to eat 2-3 times a week, 100-150 grams of berries. The same rule applies to pregnant women. But nursing mothers should consult a doctor before eating cloudberries.

Children under 8 months should not be given berries. From the age of one, it can be added to fruit puree, for example, apples. Start feeding with one tablespoon, gradually increasing the portion. A child can eat cloudberries in their pure form from the age of three and only under adult supervision.

How to choose

The berry ripens exactly in mid-summer. But the period does not last long, only half a month. An interesting feature is that the red color of the fruit means an unripe berry. When it reaches ripeness, it acquires a yellowish-orange color.

If you buy cloudberries in a store or market, you need to carefully inspect them: there are no signs of spoilage and whether they are covered with mold.

The beneficial properties of cloudberries will appear, and contraindications will become relevant only if the product is of poor quality. That is, the berry should not be bruised or have juice running out of it. But it would be preferable to buy with sepals, since in this form it is better preserved. When frozen, cloudberries should be thoroughly felt so that the berries are not sticky and do not have pieces of ice.

Storage

Berries are stored at temperatures from 0 to 4 degrees. The lifespan of mature fruits is up to 4 days, and for green ones – up to two weeks.

Traditionally, cloudberries are used to make sweet dishes, compote or prepared in its own juice. In another recipe, the berries are mixed with sugar, diluted in a 1:1 ratio, and left in the refrigerator. You can simply freeze the fruits. The main condition for this is their dry and undamaged condition.

Berry in folk medicine

Healers treated various diseases using not only the fruits, but also the leaves and roots of the plant. They relieved people of problems with the intestines, liver and kidneys, biliary tract and cardiovascular activity. It has been noticed that with regular use, putrefactive processes in the gastrointestinal tract are reduced, and biochemical processes return to normal.

It is useful to eat it after poisoning, for vitamin deficiency, burns, colds, fatigue, cystitis, diarrhea, dropsy, scurvy, scabies and many other serious diseases.

In order to stop bleeding, take a tablespoon of dried leaves and pour a glass of boiling water. After cooling, you can take 70 milliliters orally 3 times a day.

You should drink a lot of water, and take the tincture 4 times a day, 100 milliliters.

To get rid of pus, fresh leaves are smeared with fish oil and applied to the affected area. The compress should be changed from 2 times a day.

To improve appetite, mix water and cloudberry (juice) in a 1:1 ratio. Reviews from loved ones caring for their relatives with cancer indicate that smearing the affected areas with the pulp alleviated the patient’s condition with tumors.

The tincture is very useful. It is taken for gout, kidney stones and metabolic disorders. It is prepared as follows. Take two teaspoons of leaves and pour a glass of boiling water. Then the tincture is left for several hours. Cloudberries in this form are distributed into equal parts and drunk in one day. This recipe will also help with gastritis, if acidity is low, and with tumors.

Cloudberry is also used for coughs, colds and tuberculosis. Leaf tea prepared in the usual way also has an excellent effect. You can add rose hips and honey to it instead of sugar.

Cloudberry for Pushkin

Legend has it that before leaving after a duel, the great poet asked for pickled cloudberries. No one was surprised at such a request, since everyone knew that he really loved this berry, as well as lingonberries. It is believed that the Pushkin family bought it at the Round Market from a merchant named Gerasim Dmitriev.

About two centuries passed, and a stylish restaurant opened on this site, which is called “Cloudberry for Pushkin.” Of course, unfortunately, there are no berries in it. But St. Petersburg residents are still grateful for the tribute to the Russian poet.

During the autumn-winter period, it is especially important to support immunity and general health. In this matter, the gifts of nature, which grow in abundance in the summer in the territories of our country, can come to the rescue. Cloudberries deserve special attention. Cloudberry sepals for cough have long been used in folk medicine due to their many beneficial properties.

Cloudberry for cough is in demand due to its rich composition. When coughing, cloudberry leaves will have a healing effect thanks to the following components:

  • Vitamins. The berries, stems, and stalks of the plant contain water-soluble B vitamins, vitamin C, PP, and fat-soluble vitamin A.

B vitamins are necessary for our body as coenzymes for key reactions of plastic and energy metabolism. With their deficiency, oxidation processes in cell mitochondria and alternative pathways of glucose metabolism, which are actively functioning, suffer.

Vitamin PP also belongs to group B - it is nicotinic acid, vitamin B 3. Nicotinic acid is part of the coenzymes NAD+ and NADP+, which are involved in the transfer of protons across the mitochondrial membrane, which is vital for the course of energy processes.

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that our body needs to maintain healthy skin and vision. It accumulates in the liver, from where it is supplied to the organs when necessary.

Vitamin C – ascorbic acid, helps our immune system. Also, without vitamin C, normal synthesis of collagen fibers, which are part of the connective tissue formations of our body, is impossible.

  • Mineral components. Parts of the cloudberry plant contain a huge amount of micro- and macroelements:

Calcium is one of the metals whose amount in the human body is very large. The role of calcium is not limited to building bone tissue. It is also necessary for muscle cells to transmit and generate impulses, the heart muscle. Nerve cells contain calcium channels that help change the potential of the cell membrane.

Phosphorus. Phosphorus is important for our body. Not only is it part of the salts in bone tissue and tooth enamel, but phosphorus is also required as part of phosphorus residues. They are present in every cell in molecules of nucleic acids, high-energy molecules.

Potassium. Almost every cell has potassium channels in its membrane, which contribute to changes in membrane potential and are part of the potassium-sodium pump necessary for the active transport of substances across the membrane.

Iron. It is part of hemoglobin, a complex protein that transports oxygen and carbon dioxide in the human body. Iron is also found in myoglobin, a protein that “stores” energy reserves in muscle tissue.

Cloudberries also contain other elements.

  • Carotenoids and phytoncides. These are active components of plant origin that have bactericidal, antimycotic, antiprotozoal effects;
  • Antioxidants. Such substances prevent the formation of free radicals in cells and free radical oxidation;
  • Fatty acid. Widely distributed in the human body, necessary for the construction of cell membranes, the production of steroid hormones and other complex substances;
  • Tannins. They have a bactericidal effect and eliminate the effects of pathogenic microflora on the body.

Thus, cloudberry has antibacterial, antiviral, strengthening, and immunostimulating properties.
