Gum disease is the second most common disease along with tooth decay. They are divided into two main types: gingivitis - inflammation of the gums, periodontitis - damage to the bone tissue, which is the support of the tooth. The causes of gum pain can vary. Their danger is that a person may not guess about anything for a long time, since at the beginning of the disease, the symptoms are practically invisible.

Gum disease (gingivitis) is most often caused by careless oral care. A person who does not observe hygiene contributes to the development of pathogenic microbes in the mouth. Bacteria multiply and form plaque on the teeth that irritates the gums. They begin to bleed, become inflamed, and weaken. In this case, the gum moves away from the tooth, forming a "pocket". Microorganisms multiply there even more intensively. The process is accompanied by bad breath. Do not hesitate to visit the dentist with such symptoms, otherwise the disease will take on a more severe form - periodontitis. In case of periodontitis, when the root membrane of the tooth becomes inflamed, pain in the gums can be localized only around one tooth. Usually it is preceded by some kind of trauma. For example, biting off very hard food, pressing on a crown, a poor denture, or pre-gingival caries. With this disease, the tooth becomes very sensitive to pressure, and the gums become inflamed and sore due to suppuration. Periodontitis is dangerous with complications and requires serious treatment.

Stomatitis is another common disease associated with gum pain. It occurs more often as an independent disease, although it can be a symptom of other troubles. Stomatitis in the tongue (glossitis) occurs due to excessive consumption of acidic or salty, very cold or hot food, smoking, lack of vitamins, and is also associated with exacerbation of chronic diseases.

Periodontal disease and periodontitis are diseases associated with painful sensations in the gums. The most common cause of the disease is a lack of vitamins P and C in the human body. Improper bite, caries, neglect of oral hygiene - increase the load on the teeth and gums. All this can provoke gum inflammation, swelling, bleeding. At the very beginning, the symptoms are not very noticeable: a slight burning sensation, itching in the gums.

Periodontal disease in humans is most likely after the age of 35, but it is possible even earlier. There are several reasons for this. For example, metabolic disorders that cause diseases of the endocrine system (gout, diabetes), demineralization of the body, coronary heart disease, stress, hereditary predisposition.

With periodontal disease, gum pain occurs when brushing teeth, when biting off, or chewing on solid food. Teeth and gums react painfully to sweet and salty, cold and hot, even cold air when inhaling. The dental tissue then peels off, exposing the tooth shaft. Teeth loosen, fall out. Therefore, timely, comprehensive treatment by a dentist is important. It is necessary to bring the inflammation under control.

If you do not start the treatment of periodontal disease and periodontitis in a timely manner, then due to the softening of the gum adjacent to the tooth, the tooth will loosen and fall out. Local inflammation very quickly spreads to the entire gum, which leads to the loss of not one tooth, but many teeth. Any of these infectious gum diseases should be treated by a dentist as early as possible in order to avoid serious consequences.

Periodontitis is a serious, dangerous disease. This is an irreversible process. With the help of modern medicines, it can be suspended, but it is impossible to completely restore the gum tissue. Therefore, at the first symptoms of gum disease, bleeding, inflammation, you should contact your dentist and start treatment.
