This prayer book is intended for people taking their first steps in the Church, for those who for some reason do not have the opportunity to learn and understand the Church Slavonic language. It included abbreviated morning and evening rules, succession and canon for Holy Communion, as well as a reminder for Holy Communion. All this is offered in an adequate translation from Church Slavonic into Russian. The Missionary Prayer Book has passed theological and philological examination. When compiling the prayer book, realizing the impossibility of preserving the divine beauty of Church Slavonic poetry, the compiler was guided by the desire to convey the meaning of the prayers as accurately as possible. In the future, you, dear reader of the Lord, will need a complete prayer book, which is used by the majority of Orthodox Christians. The choice of translation was carried out on a large number of sources, the main one of which was the book “Prayers and Chants Orthodox prayer book with translation into Russian, explanations and notes by Nikolai Nakhimov. If I dare to approach You with those worthy, then my clothes will expose me, for they are not the same as what they wear to the Supper, and I will bring condemnation to my sinful soul. (When the glorious disciples were enlightened at the Supper during the washing, then the wicked Judas, obsessed with the love of money, became darkened: He betrays You, the righteous Judge, to the lawless judges. Human! Intending to taste the Body of the Lord, approach with fear, so as not to be scorched: for this is fire. Drink the divine blood for Communion, first make peace with those who have offended you, and then boldly partake of the mystical food. First prayer, St. Basil the Great

And may the communion of Your most pure and life-giving Mysteries not be a condemnation for me, and may I not become weak in soul and body from unworthy communion of them; but grant me, until my last breath, to partake of Your Holy Things, not as a condemnation, A into communion with the Holy Spirit, guidance into eternal life and a favorable response to the Last Judgment Yours, so that I, along with all Your chosen ones, may become a participant in the fullness of Your blessings, prepared by You, O Lord, for those who love You, in which You are glorified forever. Second prayer, St. our father John Chrysostom

Lord, my God, I realize that I am unworthy and not prepared for You to enter under the roof of the dwelling of my soul, because it is all empty and in ruins, and there is no worthy place in me where to lay my head to You. But how You humbled Yourself for us, came down from high heavenly, so now descend to my insignificance. And how it pleased You to lie down in a cave, in a wordless manger animals, so deign to enter the manger of my reckless soul and my desecrated body. Therefore, I pray to You: as the only Saint, sanctify, O Lord, my soul and body, mind and heart, everything internal organs, and renew me all, and root the fear of You in my members, and make Your sanctification indelible in me. Be my helper and protector, guiding my life peacefully like a helmsman, may I be honored at the Court to stand at Your right hand with Your Saints, through the prayers and intercession of Your All-Pure Mother, Your disembodied servants and the Most Pure Powers and all the saints who have pleased You from eternity. Third prayer, St. Simeon Metaphrastus

Lord, the only pure and immortal, inexpressibly Yours compassion and love for mankind, who took upon Himself all our complex nature from the pure virgin blood of Who supernaturally gave birth to You by the influx of the Holy Spirit, by the good pleasure of the eternal Father, Jesus Christ, the Wisdom of God, peace and power! You, who through Your assumed flesh accepted life-giving and saving sufferings: the cross, nails, death - kill my soul-destroying bodily passions. You, who by Your burial have devastated the kingdom of hell, bury my bad intentions with good thoughts and scatter the spirits of evil. You, to Your life-giving on the third day from the coffin having raised the fallen forefather by rebellion, raise me too, who have fallen into sin, giving me the means of repentance. You, by Your glorious ascension, have deified the received flesh and given it the honor of sitting at the right hand of the Father, deign me also, through the communion of Your holy Mysteries, to reach the right side of those who are being saved. You, who by the descent of the Comforter of the Spirit made Your holy disciples precious vessels, show me also to be the receptacle of His coming. Prayer four, St. John of Damascus

Master, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, the only one who has the power to forgive people’s sins! As a merciful and lover of mankind, neglect all my sins, committed both consciously and unconsciously, and grant me, without being condemned, to partake of the divine, glorious, most pure and life-giving Mysteries, not to aggravate, nor torment, nor to multiply sins, but for purification, sanctification, as a deposit future life and the Kingdom, for protection, help and driving away enemies, for the destruction of many of my sins. For You are a merciful, compassionate and loving God, and to You we send up glory, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Fifth prayer, St. Basil the Great

I know, Lord, that I unworthily partake of Your most pure Body and Your precious Blood, and I am guilty, and I eat and drink my own condemnation, not distinguishing between Your Body and Blood, Christ and my God. But I, trusting in Your compassion, come to You, who said: “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.” Have mercy, O Lord, and do not expose me, a sinner, but deal with me according to Your mercy. And may this Shrine be for me for healing, cleansing, enlightenment, preservation and salvation, and for the sanctification of soul and body; to drive away every vision, evil deed and devilish influence manifested through thoughts in my members; for boldness before You and love for You, for the correction and affirmation of life in goodness, the growth of virtue and perfection, for the fulfillment of the commandments, for communion with the Holy Spirit, for guidance into eternal life, for a favorable response at Your terrible judgment, - not for condemnation or as punishment.

Prayer six, St. Simeon the New Theologian

From foul lips, from a vile heart, from an unclean tongue, from a defiled soul, accept prayer, my Christ, and do not reject me neither for my words, nor for the manifestation of my shameless character. Let me freely express what I want, my Christ; or better yet, teach me what I should do and say. I have sinned more than the harlot, who, having learned where You are and having bought peace, dared to come to anoint the feet of Your God, my Lord and Christ. Like her, who came from pure hearts, You have not rejected, do not disdain me, Christ! Allow me to hold and kiss Your feet and boldly anoint them with a stream of tears, like precious ointment. Wash me with your tears, cleanse me with them, Lord! Forgive my sins and grant me forgiveness. You know many of my evil deeds, you also know my ulcers, you see the scars from them; but you also know my faith, you see my zeal and hear my groans. For You said, my Lord: “Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood abides in Me, and I in him.” And every word of my Lord and God is true; for, partaking of the divine and deifying Gifts, I am truly not alone, but with You, my Christ, with the Light shining like three suns and illuminating the world. Therefore, so that I would not be left alone, without You, the Giver of life, my breath, my life, my joy, the salvation of the world, I came to You, as You see, with tears and a contrite soul, and I beg you to give me deliverance from of my sins, without condemnation, to partake of Your life-giving, most pure Mysteries. May You remain, as You said, with me, the most unfortunate, so that the tempter does not insidiously kidnap me, seeing me deprived of Your grace, and leading me astray, do not take me away from Your deifying words. Therefore I fall to feet Yours and I ardently appeal to You: how You received the prodigal son and the harlot who came to You, so accept, O Merciful One, me, the prodigal and the vile, who now comes to You with a contrite soul. I know, my Savior, that no one has sinned before You like I have, or done what I have done. But I also know that neither the severity of sins nor the multitude of sins exceeds the great patience and extreme love for mankind of my God; but with merciful compassion You purify and enlighten those who ardently repent and introduce them to the light, abundantly imparting to them a part of Your Divinity and, which is strange to the Angels and to human thought, you often converse with them as with Your true friends. This gives me courage, inspires me, my Christ! And, trusting in Your rich benefits to us, with trembling joy, being grass, I partake of the Fire and - a strange miracle! - I don’t burn, being mysteriously watered by your grace, like in ancient times a thorn bush that burned and was not consumed. So, with a grateful thought, a grateful heart, with all my grateful soul and body, I worship, magnify and glorify You, my God, as blessed now and forever. Amen.

Seventh prayer, St. John Chrysostom

Let me go, forgive me, forgive me my sins, O God, with which I have sinned before You in word, deed, thought, voluntarily and involuntarily, consciously and unconsciously, forgive me everything, for You are good and a lover of mankind. But You, Christ God, Who justified the publican and had mercy on the Canaanite woman and opened the doors of paradise to the thief, open Your humane heart to me and accept me, who comes and touches You as You accepted the harlot and the bleeding woman: for one, touching the hem of Your garment, immediately received healing; the other, hugging Your most pure feet, took with her the forgiveness of sins. And I, unfortunate one, deciding to accept Your entire Body, may I not burn; but accept me as You accepted those women, and enlighten the feelings of my soul, burning away my sinful guilts, with prayers without the seed of You who gave birth and heavenly powers. For blessed are You forever and ever. Amen.

Eleventh prayer, St. John Chrysostom

I believe, Lord, and confess that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. I also believe that this is Your most pure Body and this is Your precious Blood itself. Therefore, I ask You: have mercy on me and forgive me my sins, voluntary and involuntary, which I have committed in word or deed, consciously or unconsciously; and deign me, without incurring condemnation, to partake of Your most pure Mysteries to receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Prayer of thanksgiving, first.

I thank You, Lord, my God, that You did not reject me, a sinner, but made me worthy to partake of Your Holy Things. I thank You that You have vouchsafed me, unworthy, to partake of Your most pure heavenly Gifts. But, Lord-Love of Mankind, who died for us and rose again and gave us these terrible life-giving Mysteries for the benefit and sanctification of our souls and bodies, make them also for me to heal my soul and body, to repel every enemy, to enlighten the eyes of my heart, into the peace of my spiritual strength, into firm faith, into unfeigned love, into the enlightenment of the mind, into the observance of Thy commandments, into the increase of Thy divine grace and into the acquisition of Thy Kingdom; so that, being preserved by them in purity before You, I will always remember Your mercy and live no longer for myself, but for You, our Lord and Benefactor. And thus, having departed from this life in the hope of Eternal life, I will come to a place of eternal peace, where the voices of the triumphant do not cease and where the joy of those who look at the indescribable beauty of Your face is endless. For You are the true goal of aspiration and the inexplicable joy of those who love You, Christ our God, and all creation sings to You forever. Amen.

Second prayer, St. Vasily Velikago.

Lord, Christ God, King of the ages and Creator of all peace! I thank You for all the blessings that You have given me, and for the communion of Your most pure and life-giving Mysteries. And so I pray to You, O merciful and Lover of Mankind: keep me under Your protection in the shadow of Your wings, and grant me with a clear conscience, until my last breath, to worthily partake of Your Holy Things for the remission of sins and eternal life. For You are the Bread of Life, the Source of sanctification, the Giver of blessings. And we send glory to You, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Third prayer, St. Symeon Metaphrastus.

Lord, who voluntarily gave me Your flesh for food, You are the fire that burns the unworthy! Don't burn me, my Creator! But go into the members of my body, into all the joints, into the entrails, into the heart, and the thorns of all my sins fell. Cleanse my soul, sanctify my thoughts, strengthen me in my activities, enlighten my feelings, imbue me with fear of You. Always protect, protect, take care of me from every deed and word harmful to the soul. Cleanse, wash, arrange me; decorate, admonish and enlighten me. Most Holy Lady Theotokos, light of my darkened soul, hope, protection, refuge, consolation, my joy! I thank You that You have vouchsafed me, unworthy, to partake of the most pure Body and precious Blood of Your Son. You who gave birth to the true Light, enlighten the spiritual eyes of my heart. O Thou who gave birth to the Source of immortality, revive me, deadened by sin. Merciful Mother of the merciful God, have mercy on me and give me tenderness and contrition in my heart, humility in my thoughts, a return to the good thoughts of my mind, in cases of its infatuation. And grant me, until my last breath, without being condemned, to accept the shrine of the most pure Mysteries for the healing of soul and body. And give me tears of repentance and thanksgiving, so that I may sing and glorify You all the days of my life, since You are Blessed and glorified forever. Amen.

The plot for the short story was born from observations during a walk, from conversations with a friend, from dreams, from sorrows that I wanted to get rid of by moving them into a story.

The Mystery of Numbers was inspired by a conversation with my little nephew, who told me that in his class there was a hierarchy that divided students into those who could count to ten and those who could count further.

The idea for “Blackness” came to me when I saw an overly caring passerby trying to get an old man across the road who didn’t need it at all.

"The Last Riot" was written after visiting a nursing home.

"The Silent Friend" - after a conversation with Professor Gerard Amzallag, a biologist who studies various forms of life. The scientific discovery described in the novel is little known, but completely real.

It has always been interesting to me, when talking about us humans, to take the point of view of beings different from us. This is an inexhaustible source of thought. Once upon a time, I asked the “all-knowing grannies” in the Church about everything that I didn’t understand. Once again I asked about reading the Psalms: how to read, what to pray for, etc. To which the granny answered me that the Psalter must be read only in Church Slavonic, otherwise “LOW”! I was very upset and began to study literacy church language. But I was tempted to ask the priest about this in confession. Father smiled into his beard and said that the Psalter can and should be read in the language you understand. The Lord understands all languages, you just need to sincerely ask Him, with all your heart! Is it possible to read prayers in Russian?

You pose a very serious question, the answer to which is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. For a person deeply rooted in the Orthodox tradition, it seems unthinkable how one can address God in modern Russian. But for a person just coming to faith, the Church Slavonic language is unusual and difficult to understand. In church, the texts of Holy Scripture are read in Church Slavonic, and in literature, in sermons, in letters and responses to contemporaries, we most often use the text of the Synodal translation of the Bible into Russian. But we use it only to convey the idea more clearly. modern man, although this translation is quite archaic. In passing, I would like to note that work is currently underway to publish an Old Believer translation into Russian of the Holy Gospel.

It must be said that the Church Slavonic translation of the Bible and liturgical texts is more accurate and closer to the original than the Synodal translation. Experts in the field of linguistics talk about the difficulty of interpreting prayer formulas and the impossibility of accurately conveying liturgical semantics using the tools of modern language.

A wonderful article about our liturgical language was published in the preface to the “Prayer Book” published by the Old Believer Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church. Old Believer Church(M., 1988, etc. pp. 8-9). It briefly but essentially reveals the meaning of the Church Slavonic language and the reasons why the Church cannot switch to modern Russian. Here I will only quote one paragraph.

The centuries-old prayer experience of the Russian Church shows that the Church Slavonic language is perfectly suited for prayerful communication with God. After all, a conversation with God is not a conversation with a person. Therefore, the language of prayer must be different from the language of ordinary speech. The Church Slavonic language gives prayers and praises a sublime style, distracting the soul from vain things. earthly worries and sorrows. In this regard, the language of our worship is an inexhaustible treasure.

Start praying according to the prayer book, and you will see how organically the words of prayer flow from your heart.

Liturgical and modern Russian languages are closely related. Therefore, I would advise you to make an effort on yourself and try to master Church Slavonic. It is also necessary to use a dictionary, although not many church words require translation. Further, when reading Holy Scripture, be sure to refer to the patristic interpretations. Compare Church Slavonic and Synodal translations. This will allow you to understand that translation does not provide a complete understanding of the meaning. After all, the Lord also to the apostles opened the mind to understand the Scriptures"(Luke 24:45). Obviously, such work requires some effort and time, but it is generously rewarded. I can give you an example. On Holy Spirit Monday the following words of the Apostle Paul are read in church: “ ...redeeming time"(Eph. 5:16). And in synodal translation in the same place we read: “ ... valuing time" Do you agree that this instruction in Church Slavonic sounds much deeper and stronger? And here is his interpretation.

“Amma Theodora asked Archbishop Theophilus: what is the meaning of the Apostle’s saying: “Time redeems”? He answered: “This means that our entire earthly life is similar to the production of trade. For example: when the time comes when reproaches will rain down on you, you atone for this time with humility and gain benefit (profit) for yourself. Thus, everything that is contrary and hostile to us can, if we want, turn to our advantage” (Alphabetical Patericon).

I also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the translations of the psalms made by the outstanding Russian philologist, academician Sergei Sergeevich Averintsev (1937-2004). These translations are remarkable in that they make it possible to convey to modern people the meaning of the psalms, firstly, in the Russian language (in which modern words, barbarisms and borrowings), and secondly, in such a Russian language, which also conveys the imagery of the original, allows you to feel the structure of psalmic speech.

During evening prayer, we thank God for the day we have lived, examine our conscience, thank God for the good and ask for forgiveness for the evil we have done. This is the best moment for family members to forgive each other for minor offenses.
Before night falls, we entrust to God everyone and everything that our hearts hurt about. We remember death and the meeting with God that awaits us, we think about His judgment and mercy; We express our faith, hope, love and contrition for sins. Evening test of conscience:
Every person who wants to develop spiritually must realize how important the daily examination of conscience is. Examination of conscience is a time of prayer, a time of encounter in which we renew our life with and in Christ day by day. It gives us the opportunity to more fully and objectively see the presence and action of God in our lives, to know His plans for us so that we can find Him in everything and everywhere - not only during the time allotted for prayer. The test of conscience is not only an analysis of the day we have lived, not only a moral assessment of our actions: our vision of life should lead us to search for an answer to the call of God, to self-determination in faith. During the nightly examination of conscience, the feelings with which one should end the day are put in order and focused: gratitude to God for grace and blessing, contrition for bad deeds and thoughts, a decision to correct one’s life, and surrendering oneself with trust in the hands of a good God.
Merciful God! I thank You with all my heart for all the blessings of today and the grace given to me. Come, O Holy Spirit, illuminate my mind, so that all the sins I have committed today will be revealed to me, and especially my main vice. Break my heart so that I sincerely grieve for my sins.
I believe, Lord, that You are the God and Father of mercy. Therefore, with humble hope, I offer my sins to You, so that You may look at my contrition and grant me forgiveness. For You are God Almighty, who whitens souls more than snow and the light of the sun. Amen.

PRAYER: My communication with God? The memory of His presence? Thanksgiving? Desire to live as a Christian? Petitions? Hope? Prayer for forgiveness?
WORK, STUDY, REST: Ability to manage time? Fulfilling duties? Dedication? Coming to terms with your own limitations and taking responsibility for your abilities? Struggling with laziness and difficulties? Forms of relaxation, care for a good mood?
COMMUNICATION WITH PEOPLE: Respect? Cooperation and mutual assistance? Kindness in words and deeds? Accepting reasonable offers? Attention to the concerns and suffering of others? Striving for justice? Protecting the weak?

If evildoers, my opponents and my enemies come upon me to devour my flesh, then they themselves will stumble and fall.

Oh God, another day of my life has passed. Every moment I lived was a gift from You: whether I worked or rested, communicated with people or was alone with myself, was happy or sad - everything was Your gift.
Thank You for everything that I have learned and experienced today. You alone know whether I was able to fulfill Your will. Forgive me for everything that I overlooked, that I forgot about, for everything that was not according to Your will. Have mercy on me, a sinner. Let me let a night's rest increase my strength so that I can live better tomorrow.
Take care of all those who sleep and those who work this night. I entrust my entire future and that of my loved ones to Your merciful care, our God and Father. Amen.
