In Moscow, for people who have lost their home or visitors who find themselves in difficult life circumstances, there is a service: social hotels, where they will receive first aid medical care, will shelter you from the cold and even help you rehabilitate yourself in life

Metropolitan Department social protection the population claims that Moscow shelters are ready to accept everyone who wants to stay warm in winter)) There will always be an extra bed or at least a mattress. Moreover, some establishments employ volunteers who help people restore documents or find work. Moscow night shelters today can accommodate, on average, up to 1,600 guests. One thing, of course, is not very pleasant for the casual visitor: in winter, tipsy citizens are required to be admitted into shelter houses, while in the summer they were categorically not allowed in. What can you do, it's cold.

Solidarity group for the homeless and poor.

This a joint project Volunteer movement Danilovtsy, charity group of the Danilov Monastery and Christian cultural center “Vstrecha”. The group brings together those who would like to practically make small gestures of solidarity, give alms, work for the glory of God and simply notice those who usually want to be brushed aside.

The areas of work of the group are:

  • Cooking for homeless, poor, lonely old people.
  • Communication and support for homeless people, holding communication groups, trainings, coaching.
  • Charity holidays for the poor and lonely old people (Christmas and Easter).
  • Conducting charity fairs and events, collecting clothing and donations.

What are we doing? We want homeless and poor people not to be alone in their struggle for life, to support them with simple gestures of solidarity - food, clothing, communication, to show that we see and accept them. Every Saturday we ourselves prepare a hot lunch for the homeless; if funds allow, we purchase hygiene products, socks, shoes, and gloves. We also organize the collection and donation of clothing and donations in their favor. Even in well-fed and rich Moscow, the issue of food and clothing can be acute.
Financial assistance is important, but not the only part our activities. We do not work alone, but as part of a community of government and public organizations involved in helping the homeless in Moscow. By creating an atmosphere of solidarity, we want to awaken a willingness to reach out to professional organizations, to motivate the homeless not to give up trying to change life situation after severe disappointments, and also simply to support people whose life situation is unlikely to change.

Volunteers also organize events where lonely old people, the poor, and the homeless are invited.

Who are our wards? Homeless and poor people (elderly, migrants) in difficult life situations, mostly unable to work. About 65 people come to meet with volunteers every week. Among them are those who find themselves in a difficult life situation - they were recently robbed, cheated out of a job or an apartment, who left because family problems or he is ashamed to return home without money, there are those who came from a depressed region with unemployment and drunkenness, or are simply forced to live on the street. There are people who lost their parents in early age, were brought up in orphanages, and were in prison. In most cases, a long and specialized assistance and simply finding a job does not help. Just lonely old people come to us, whose pension goes to utility bills and modest food and clothing can support them. There are also those who have already firmly established themselves on the street.

Requirements for volunteers: Our group is open to everyone who shares our attitude towards people and is ready to follow the rules and traditions of our group. We try to draw our inspiration and strength from the Christian tradition, prayer and communication on spiritual topics, but religious affiliation is not a condition of participation. Age restrictions are agreed with the coordinator.

Willingness to work in a group, with its vision and rules, under the guidance of a coordinator, to take responsibility for performing certain functions (cooking, purchasing food, sorting clothes, etc.).

Meeting time: weekly on Saturdays from 12:00 to 22:00

  • 12:00 – 18:00 Group meeting, cooking, collecting clothes and hygiene products for going out. Prayer.
  • 18:30-20:00 Meeting of volunteers with the homeless and poor near the Paveletskaya metro station.
  • 20:15-22:00 Washing thermoses, filling out the magazine, tea and discussion of the meeting. Friendly communication.

On weekdays you can also help:

  • Sorting donations and selecting clothes, working in a warehouse.
  • Purchase of food and hygiene items.
  • Minor repairs and ironing of clothes.
  • Search for vacancies, accompaniment to government agencies, etc.

In order to help the homeless we need donations:

  • Serviceable, washed clothes and shoes, bags, briefcases, backpacks.
  • Unopened and usable hygiene items: soap, shampoos, toothpaste, wet wipes.
  • Meat, fish, canned food
  • Cereals, cookies, candies.
  • Donations for the purchase of disposable tableware, food, socks and hygiene items, medicines, targeted assistance.

The group is in dire need of premises for cooking and holding communication groups in the Paveletskaya metro area, a working minibus (cat B), and donations.

We constantly need volunteers to sort and make minor repairs, clean and iron donated clothes - this can be done on weekdays, even in the evening.

You can also organize a collection of items and food in your church or office to help the homeless and poor.

Coordinator: Dmitry Ivanin

Other help for homeless people in Moscow

If for some reason the option of a help center for homeless people is not suitable, then here is more information on the topic.

Since 2009, Social Patrol has been operating in Moscow. These are mobile teams that feed and provide medical care to homeless people in need. The organizer of the “Social Patrol” is the Moscow Department of Social Protection and Labor. The department has several adaptation centers to which social security employees invite homeless people. Here is information about what needs to be done for the authorities to officially recognize a homeless person as needing help.

Telephone "Social Patrol": 8 495 720-15-08, 8 903 720-15-08

Social patrol often cooperates with friendly rehabilitation and adaptation centers. We know that one of them permanent partners- workhouses for the homeless “Noah” (organized by volunteers of the Orthodox Church).

Telephone number of the Noah workhouse: 8 926 236-54-22

Homeless assistance service "Mercy" (Moscow)

The friendly team of the Mercy help service has often been working for a long time and has earned special authority among its clients. Volunteers of the Mercy service often travel outside of Moscow (where Social Patrol does not go).

The priorities of this movement:

Helping people in social welfare agencies and hospitals,

Assistance in document recovery,

They can help you get home

- ... and most importantly... Departure to the specified place upon call from caring people!!!

Address and telephone number of "Mercy": Moscow, st. Nikoloyamskaya, 57 bldg. 1, tel: 8-985-764-49-11, 8-495-764-49-11

It happens that a homeless person does not particularly want to change his life. It’s unfortunate, but many choose the street. In winter, they look for some kind of shelter for the homeless. Our team often picks up such poor people from the streets in the cold (and in the summer too). Time passes and they return to their “dustbin”.

If a homeless person does not feel your love, it will be difficult for them to change.

But those who see the sincerity of their intentions to help, who have not felt kindness and warmth in relationships for a long time, but today felt them - such a person finds himself in the center of helping homeless people and gradually changes.
