Businessman and politician, son of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Kojo Adeyemo Annan was born in July 1973 in Geneva, Switzerland. His father was a Ghanaian political figure Kofi Annan, future UN Secretary General (1997-2006) and mother, Nigerian Titi Alakija. Kojo had Native sister, Ama. In the late 70s, his father divorced Titi and moved to Switzerland, taking the children with him. After - he married Nana Maria, a citizen of Switzerland. At the same time, Kojo Annan also had an adopted sister, Nina Gronsted de Groot.

At one time, Kojo Annan (Kojo Annan) received primary and secondary education in the UK - in primary school Rydal Preparatory School and Rendcomb College, after which he returned to Switzerland and enrolled at Keele University.

After graduating from university, Kojo went to Nigeria and became the director of Petroleum Projects International, which flourished in the oil and gas market. West Africa. From 1995 to 1997, Kojo Annan worked as an employee of Cotecna Inspection SA. Some dark facts of his biography were connected with Kojo's activities in this company, which are supposedly connected with Kojo's father, Kofi Annan. The fact is that in 2005, the American Congress and an independent commission of Paul Volcker (Paul Volcker), with the submission of sensational statements by the English newspaper Financial Times and the Italian magazine Il Sole 24 Ore, investigated the humanitarian program Oil in exchange for food” (NOP). This program began in 1996 and consisted in the fact that during the economic blockade of Iraq, the latter had the right to change oil for different kinds products and products. So it was Cotecna Inspection SA that oversaw this program. In 2005, the Volcker Commission found that, thanks to the actions of Cotecna Inspection SA, the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein earned about twenty billion dollars from the NOP. On the unofficial account of Kojo Annan (Kojo Annan) in the Swiss bank "Coutts", the commission found 300 thousand dollars. It turned out that although Kojo left Cotecna Inspection SA in 1997, he continued to work as its consultant until 1998, and received a salary in it until 2004.

Naturally, neither Kojo himself nor his father admits their connection with the machinations of Cotecna Inspection SA under the NOP program. Whatever it was, in 2006, Kofi Annan left the post of UN Secretary General, and since then there has been very little information about his son, Kojo Annan.

Activities as UN Secretary General

Elected after the United States vetoed Boutros Boutros-Ghali, a re-election candidate. The previous day, Annan had served as UN Assistant Secretary-General for peacekeeping operations(March 1993 - February 1994) and then Deputy Secretary General (February 1994 - October 1995; April 1996 - December 1996).

It was during this period that the scale of UN peacekeeping operations peaked, when the number of deployed personnel reached its maximum level in 1995, amounting to almost 70,000 military and civilian personnel from 77 countries. However, his activities were also criticized, for example, the Canadian commander of peacekeepers in Rwanda, Romeo Dallaire, believed that his slowness did not prevent the genocide.

Kofi Annan served as UN Secretary-General from January 1, 1997, was re-elected for a second term on June 29, 2001, the term of office expired on December 31, 2006. Actively but unsuccessfully tried to reform the UN by improving the administration of the organization, doubling the number of members of the UN Security Council and significantly expanding the powers of the UN Secretary General.

Annan's report "We the peoples: the role of the United Nations in the 21st century" formed the basis of the UN Millennium Declaration, adopted at the Millennium Summit in September 2000 by the heads of state and government of the UN members.

He opposed the invasion of the US-led coalition into Iraq in 2003, insisting that there were no grounds for military intervention.

Kofi Annan is the first black African to serve as UN Secretary-General.
