The life story of the holy couple - Peter and Fevronia of Murom - is an example of sacrificial love and fidelity. No wonder the noble princes are considered patrons Christian marriage, keepers of God's Commandments.

It is from the lips of Orthodox spouses that sweet praise often flows to the great princes - an akathist to Peter and Fevronia of Murom.

Definition of Akathist

Akathist is a prayer song to the Almighty, Mother of God or saints. Like prayer, an akathist is a dialogue between the prayer book and the one to whom the prayer is addressed.

Peter and Fevronia of Murom

Believers usually read it in two cases:

  • To express special gratitude and joy in any event (to the Lord, the Virgin Mary or the saints);
  • For the sake of asking or interceding for help in difficult life circumstances.

Each akathist consists of 25 parts, they are called songs. These parts contain 13 songs of praise, called kontakia, and 12 lengthy songs - ikos, which convey the essence of the event.

It happens that people who believe in Christ agree among themselves and read the text of the akathist at the same time, despite the fact that they are far from each other and even live in different time zones. This is called prayer by agreement, the power of which is incredibly great. As the Lord said: “If two or three are gathered in My Name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Rules for reading the akathist

There are certain traditions of reading akathists, and the prayer book must necessarily follow them.

Saints Peter and Fevronia

Recommended reading time is in the morning, after reading the morning rule. During this period, the stomach is not yet overloaded with food, and the consciousness is not burdened with problems and worries. It is in such a light state that a person is able to feel and understand the meaning of each word from the chant he reads.

Other prayers for family well-being:

In accordance with church rules, a Christian must come to church and be blessed to read the akathist by the priest. It is usually read daily for 40 days. Perhaps the priest will ask a question about what prompted the person to read the akathist. Therefore, you should be prepared to give the cleric a truthful answer.

Before taking on the feat of prayer, you should confess your sins during the Sacrament of Confession, after which you should receive Holy Communion with a pure heart and conscience Mysteries of Christ at the Liturgy.

You cannot read the akathist during Lent. The exception is the prayerful praise of the Mother of God, which is performed in Holy Saturday, and an akathist to the Divine Passion of Christ, chanting last days earthly life of the Savior. On the remaining days of the year, a person has the right to decide for himself on the start date of the reading of the solemn anthem.

The prayer chant is performed while standing in front of the icon of the saint to whom prayers are offered. Reading the akathist while sitting is permitted in exceptional cases for those parishioners who, due to their weakness or illness, are not able to stand.

Peter was the son of the Murom ruler Yuri Vladimirovich and ascended the throne in 1203. A few years earlier, he was struck by leprosy, and even famous doctors and healers could not cure the young man of his illness. In an unusual night vision, Peter discovered that there was a pious girl in the world named Fevronia - the daughter of a beekeeper, living in one of the Ryazan villages, who could cure his illness.

Lives of the Saints

The prince immediately sent his messengers for her, but the maiden ordered him to come to her himself. Promising to cure the illness, Fevronia begged Peter to marry her after healing. The prince fell in love with her for her wisdom, beauty, patience and soon married the girl. But the proud boyars of the city of Murom did not want to see a commoner next to the prince, helping to govern the city. Their wives slandered and slandered Fevronia, begging their husbands to expel the intelligent beauty from the city. Soon the couple was expelled from the city, but after a short time The wrath of God fell on the city and in fear, having come to their senses, the people demanded the return of the mayor along with his wife, whom they did not like.

Church akathist to Saints Peter and Fevronia

In the akathist to Saints Peter and Fevronia, Orthodox Christians call these saints “glorious miracle workers,” since, thanks to the help received from them through their prayers, believers find help in family matters. The blessed and reverend spouses of Murom became historical figures on Russian soil and have been revered by Orthodox believers for a long time. Their life is a model of love and wisdom. In ancient times, Saint Fevronia had the gift of clairvoyance and could heal people. At the same time, St. Peter, the Murom prince, suffered from terrible disease which no one could cure. Only Fevronia, in return for marrying him, undertook to treat him and the prince soon recovered. Despite the promise, the prince deceived himself and decided not to fulfill the promise, but soon fell ill again. Fevronia cured the prince and he kept his word - they got married and began to live according to God's laws. The residents of Murom did not accept the girl, and then Peter and his wife left the city. After a while, the boyars asked the prince to take the principality and return with his wife.

In the Orthodox akathist to Peter and Fevronia of Murom, these saints are called “guardians of honest marriage,” since they lived a long, faithful and happy life, which became an example for every Orthodox family.

Saints Peter and Fevronia are glorified by the Orthodox Church not as martyrs, confessors or saints, but as married couple pious Christians. With their family life they gave perfect example to all believers who have entered into or are about to enter into marriage. Peter and Fevronia throughout their entire life life together maintained sincere love and loyalty to each other. When they pray to Peter and Fevronia of Murom

The Memorial Day of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom is now celebrated throughout Russia as the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. This date is July 8th. On this day, the Orthodox Church invites everyone to visit the temple, if possible, confess and take communion, praying for a happy marriage, peace in the family, the health of relatives and friends, and for people who have not yet found family happiness - for early entry into marriage. happy marriage. After all, at the beginning of time, at the creation of the world, God the Father said: “It is not good for man to be alone.”

If you do not have the opportunity to visit the temple on this holiday, pray at home with the help of an akathist to Peter and Fevronia.

The Akathist to Saints Peter and Fevronia is read, glorifying the love for each other and for the Lord of the married couple of saints. Their love overcame many obstacles, Saints Peter and Fevronia endured attacks from other people and temptations (and one of the boyars of Prince Peter tried to seduce Saint Fevronia, but, of course, she did not betray her beloved!). The akathist contains prayers to the saints for various needs.

They pray to the saints, asking

    Soon to get married;

    Have a safe conception, healthy pregnancy and childbirth;

    Meetings of true love;

    Good relationships and undying love in the family;

    Eliminate quarrels and difficulties in relationships.

How to pray to Peter and Fevronia of Murom

In family difficulties, difficulties in finding love and before marriage, they pray to Saints Peter and Fevronia. You can add a prayer to your daily prayer rule - traditionally the Church blesses believers to read certain prayers in the morning and evening, which can be found in any prayer book. It is better to take the blessing of a priest when reading prayers - this will make it easier for you to pray.

IN Orthodox Church, especially Russian, Saints Peter and Fevronia are revered as patrons of marriage.

Life of Peter and Fevronia of Murom

The life of Saints Peter and Fevronia is like a fairy tale. Their meeting occurred because Prince Peter fell ill and was looking for skilled healers for healing. An excellent doctor turned out to be a simple girl, the daughter of a peasant, Fevronia.

Some time after the wedding, Prince Peter ascended the Murom throne and began to rule the city. The boyars opposed having a peasant girl as a princess, because they knew about the origin of Prince Peter’s wife. They gave the prince an ultimatum: either separate from his wife, or leave the throne of Murom. Which of our modern governors or senators would be willing to resign from office for the sake of their wife? However, Prince Peter went into exile with Fevronia.

It turned out that the Murom residents punished themselves: disputes over who should rule the city led to quarrels and murders! The boyars were forced to confess to Saints Peter and Fevronia.

After these events, the saints lived their lives calmly. In old age, they took monastic vows - such was the tradition of the princely class of that time - and lived out their lives in the female and men's monasteries, humbled by this tradition. They were in physical separation, but in prayerful unity. It is known that they prayed to the Lord about dying on the same day and living together in Heaven. Furthermore, they bequeathed to bury them in one coffin.

Tradition says that July 8th is the day of their common death. After their death, they tried to bury them separately, but their bodies were miraculously discovered in a pre-prepared double coffin. In him, who now resides in Murom, they rest to this day.

Through the prayers of Saints Peter and Fevronia, may the Lord protect you!
