August 11 - partial solar eclipse. The best places to watch are Northeast Canada, Greenland, Northern Europe (including Russia), and Northeast Asia.
2. Meteor showers
Every year, space gives us a stunning spectacle in the form of a meteor shower in the night sky. However, almost always the number of falling meteors per hour is different. In 2018 activity Perseid will not be a record, unlike previous years, and on August 12-13, 2018 (the peak of the flow activity falls on these dates), the inhabitants of the Earth will be able to observe only up to 60 meteors per hour.
But geminids will be much more active this year. On the night of December 13-14, if the weather is clear, we will be able to see up to 120 meteors per hour.

3. Space “fireworks”
In 2018, scientists will monitor the meeting of the pulsar and one of the brightest stars in the Milky Way - MT91 213. Astronomers' calculations show that this approach should occur early next year at a distance of 5,000 light years from us. The result will be an energy surge that can be observed in all spectra. The pulsar J2032+4127 was discovered eight years ago and was initially thought to be single. However, further observations showed that its rotation gradually slowed down, and its speed changed, which could only be explained by its interaction with another body. As a result, it turned out that the pulsar rotates in an elongated orbit around the star MT91 213, the mass of which exceeds the solar mass by 15 times, and the luminosity is 10,000 times greater than the solar one! The star is the source of a very powerful stellar wind and is surrounded by a disk of gas and dust.

J2032+4127 takes 25 years to complete one revolution around its massive companion. In 2018, the pulsar will again approach the star, passing at a very short distance from it. Scientists suggest that with a minimum approach of two bodies, the interaction of the strong magnetic field of the pulsar with the gas and dust disk and the J2032+4127 magnetosphere will lead to a series of flares in all ranges, from radio waves to high-energy radiation.
4. Parade of planets

This means that Mercury will “pass” at its greatest distance from the Sun and will be visible immediately after sunset in the western sky for 75 minutes.
6. Mars
On July 27, 2018, the so-called “Great Opposition” of Mars will occur. This means that the Red Planet will be in line with the Sun and the Earth (the Earth will be in the middle) and will approach us at a distance of only 57.7 million kilometers.

7. Comets that can be seen with the naked eye or with an amateur telescope
Comet 185P/Petru. In late January - early February 2018, the comet will reach its maximum brightness (magnitude 11) and can be seen with an amateur telescope in the western part of the evening sky, not very high above the horizon. 185P/Peter will move through the constellations of Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Whale, again Pisces, again Whale.
Comet C/2017 T1 (Heinze). The heavenly guest will reach its maximum brightness in early January 2018 (a little more than 10 magnitude). It can be seen with an amateur telescope or binoculars at mid-latitudes. The comet will move through the constellations of Cancer, Lynx, Giraffe, Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Lizard, Pegasus and Aquarius. Comet C/2016 R2 (PANSTARRS). The maximum brightness of the space wanderer will reach in the first half of January (the brightness of the comet will be in the range between 11 and 10.5 magnitudes). Comet C/2017 S3 (PANSTARRS). It is assumed that the comet will reach its maximum brightness (about 4 magnitude) in mid-August. Comet C/2017 S3 (PANSTARRS) will navigate through the constellations of Giraffe, Auriga and Gemini during the visibility period.
Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner. In September 2018, the comet may reach magnitude 7.1 and can be seen in the middle latitudes of the northern hemisphere with small instruments. It is open for observation from June to November, first throughout the night high above the horizon, and from October in the morning. At this time, 21P / Giacobini-Zinner will move through the constellations Cygnus, Cepheus, Cassiopeia, Giraffe, Perseus, Charioteer, Gemini, Orion, Unicorn, Canis Major and Korma.
Comet 46P/Wirtanen. This comet is expected to reach its maximum brightness in mid-December and be just over magnitude 4. The astonishing odyssey of the European spacecraft Rosetta is approaching its most intriguing milestone: in August, an encounter with the comet towards which this probe was aimed more than a decade ago will take place. Strictly speaking, the mission has a longer history, given the initial designs and the plan to study Comet Virtanen. With the new dates for the launch of the apparatus, the destination also changed: the apparatus headed for the Churyumov-Gerasimenko comet, but the goal remained the same - to study the history of the solar system, the desire to get an idea of its initial stages, when the planets that circled our star had not yet formed.
Actually, the name of the mission already indicates that its organizers set themselves the task of lifting the veil of secrecy, because Rosetta is the designation of the famous archaeological find, which helped decipher Egyptian hieroglyphs that remained incomprehensible to researchers. The spacecraft launched on March 2, 2004, equipped with the most sophisticated equipment: dozens of various instruments are on board, as well as the Philae descent vehicle, whose name is also symbolic, since it echoes the name of the island on the Nile River, where the discovery was made, which gave the key to understanding hieroglyphs. Philae is expected to touch the comet's surface this November, and the exciting event is only a matter of weeks away - a trifle compared to a ten-year flight.
To ensure a long expedition, it was necessary to make a difficult route for her: Rosetta approached the orbit of Jupiter on its way, flew near Mars, ended up near our planet three times, was in different years at the shortest distance from two large asteroids - Lutetia and Steins, which allowed photograph and send back to Earth clear images of these space objects. The intricate trajectory helped to provide additional power to the device, it also assumed an almost three-year sleep mode: at the calculated point, most of the onboard equipment was turned off, only the computer system and several heating elements remained awake. We can say that we have already received the first sensational news about the Churyumov-Gerasimenko comet: its appearance is significantly different from what it seemed, including from the three-dimensional image made using the Hubble telescope. But after all, he could only take a distant shot, and Rosetta, one might say, is already close by the comet. Why did she surprise scientists so much?

When Rosetta gets to the target, we may find out what the comet really is, which was discovered in October 1969 by Klim Churyumov, studying photographic films taken in September of that year at the Alma-Ata Observatory by Svetlana Gerasimenko. So, in August, the probe will fly up to the object, in November the descent vehicle will land there, and its instruments will begin to study the chemical composition of the comet, study the structure of its nucleus ... The mission of the European Space Agency is expected to last until the end of 2015.
Thus, she will be able to carry out what Russian scientists planned to do even earlier when they worked on the creation of the Phobos-Grunt apparatus: it was supposed to deliver soil samples from the satellite of Mars. The failure with the launch does not cancel the plans: the flight to Phobos, I would like to believe, will still take place and will provide the richest material for research. Phaethon today belongs to the Apollo group. This is equal to about 21 million kilometers. Astronomers have suggested that the asteroid should be called the main celestial body of the Geminid meteor shower. It can also be seen well in the middle of winter from our planet.
It must also be said that this space object is more like a comet in its cosmic orbit than an asteroid. Its trajectory around the Sun resembles a highly elongated ellipse. Also, during its continuous movement, Phaeton crosses the orbits of 4 terrestrial planets. All this data gives astronomers a lot to think about, and also confirms their guesses about the nature of the asteroid. Scientists believe that it is the silicate nucleus of a comet that lost its icy shell during flights around the Sun.
In order to accurately determine the size and shape of a celestial body, it is necessary to collect photographs that were taken from different angles. As a rule, these photos can be obtained only after several decades. But astronomer Josef Hanus was able to use 55 images of the asteroid with his team. They were made between 1994 and 2015. also, astronomers were able to obtain 29 light curves due to state-of-the-art telescopes that were installed around the world.
Hanus said that all this data helped to study in detail the shape and exact dimensions - 5.1 km, as well as the rotation period - 3.6 hours.
