On the eve of International Recycling Day on November 15, the Association of Green Universities of Russia, with the support of the ECA Movement, is launching a nationwide campaign to collect waste paper in universities, Recycle It!. Students are encouraged to organize a collection of waste paper at their educational institutions during the Days of United Action from November 12 to 18.

To participate in the event, student teams must:

1) register on the website of the Association of Green Universities of Russia and receive detailed instructions on organizing the event, as well as an invitation to a special training webinar;
2) organize mobile points for receiving recyclable paper at their universities;
3) send the collected waste paper for recycling;
4) talk about the results of the campaign on social networks with the hashtag #recycleit2018.

In universities that already accept waste paper on an ongoing basis, the organizers propose to hold an “Eco-yard” holiday aimed at developing separate waste collection. It includes a mobile collection point for recyclables (paper, glass, metal, plastic) and activities aimed at involving participants in the practice of separate collection and reducing the amount of waste produced. Instructions for holding the holiday will also be sent to the participants of the event.

All organizers of the event will receive diplomas as participants in the all-Russian project, and the three teams that recycle the largest amount of waste paper will be awarded useful eco-prizes from the ECA Movement.

Detailed information can be found on the website of the Association of Green Universities of Russia.

“According to rough estimates, over the entire period of study at a university, each student uses paper products, the production of which takes one adult tree. This means that about a million trees are cut down every year just for textbooks, notebooks and printouts for 4 million students in Russia. The goal of our action is to attract the attention of young people to this problem and inspire them to recycle waste paper. We hope that by taking part in our action, students will want to go further and introduce the collection of recyclable materials in their universities on an ongoing basis,” notes Andrei Rudnev, Chairman of the Association of Green Universities of Russia.

The Association of “Green” Universities of Russia is an all-Russian youth environmental association of universities that implement environmental practices and principles of sustainable development at their base. To date, 46 Russian universities have joined the Association, including MGIMO, St. Petersburg State University, RUDN University, Higher School of Economics and others. As part of the program, all-Russian student quests are held, in which more than 30 thousand students from 200 Russian universities took part. Currently, students can join the All-Russian eco-quests “Share with us” and “Forest Mania”.

Every day, educational institutions for children and adolescents throw away tens of kilograms of used paper. If you organize a collection of waste paper at school, this waste can be reused, preserving the valuable “green reserve” of the planet.

Preparation of the event

First of all, you need to give your new paper collection project a unique, memorable name.
To attract more attention, you can organize a Paper Free Day at school. Paper Free Day is held worldwide on October 27th. It is initiated by the AIIM organization. In Russia, such an event is called Docflow. Also, the “Paper BOOM” project has been gaining popularity online since 2011.

This provides an opportunity to learn about the principles of rational use of natural resources.

You can save huge amounts of premium paper by stopping printing abstracts, articles and reports. It is enough that every schoolchild and student has smartphones and other gadgets on which they can store an almost unlimited amount of text documents.

Paper Free Day does not mean giving up paper completely. It is important to convey to people the idea that this is a valuable resource that needs to be used for “higher” purposes: printing books, drawing, painting, etc.

Goals and objectives of paper recycling collection projects

The main goal of collecting waste paper is to educate schoolchildren to respect plant resources and teach them how to use paper competently.

Such projects highlight the importance of separate collection and further recycling of paper waste.

Objectives of the event:

  • involving children in environmental activities;
  • fostering personal citizenship regarding the irrational use of biological resources;
  • studying the theory: how paper is made from waste paper, and where recyclable materials can be used;
  • discovery of new talents and leadership qualities;
  • educating students about current environmental issues in the region and around the world.

The project has practical value: if you start collecting waste paper at school, the amount of waste going to landfill will decrease.

The competitive form of the event and rewarding of the most active participants stimulates the pace and volume of collections.

In addition to the race in the individual and team (class) competitions, it is necessary to organize the collection of material on site. Multi-page reports from teachers on teaching and extracurricular activities, book rags, written notebooks, test sheets and other rubbish can get a new life after recycling.

Stages and methods of implementation

Class teachers receive from their superiors the necessary materials to conduct a matinee for younger schoolchildren or a class hour for older children.

The teacher draws up a plan of activities dedicated to the collection of waste paper and distributes individual assignments to students. One or more students are assigned to leadership roles: they will be responsible for the implementation of the practical part of the action.

Children prepare their own propaganda posters and leaflets. To emphasize the importance of sustainable use of resources, booklets can be printed on paper with writing on one side.

As part of the class hour, the teacher gives a short lecture on issues of ecology and environmental protection.

After the introductory speech, students make prepared reports and stories on the topics “how waste recycling will help prevent environmental disaster”, “hand over 100 kg of waste paper - save one tree from being cut down”, “paper recycling”, etc.

To make their presentations more exciting, students prepare presentations (if the school does not have a good projector, you need to bring a laptop) and edit videos themselves.

If you have a lot of time allocated for class hours, you can watch a documentary in the classroom about the problems of modern environmental management.

Before the collection begins, the organizers of the action need to agree with social organizations or recycling enterprises on financial rewards, the date of removal of waste paper and transport.

The timing of the promotion and the rules for collecting waste paper are discussed during class hours. Children are given time to prepare well, ask their parents to bring unnecessary paper and newspapers to school by car.

Active participants of the event are rewarded after summing up the results of the collection. The photo report can be published in the school or city newspaper, as well as on the website of the social organization that launched the project.

What material is suitable for collection

Waste paper is disused paper and cardboard products that can be used as recyclable materials.

You can donate books, notebooks, periodicals, advertising brochures, old abstracts and reports, and packaging materials.

What is not suitable: glossy, laminated cardboard (the processing of plastic shells is carried out using complex and expensive equipment: not all enterprises have this), cellulose disposable tableware (glasses, plates), foil paper, tracing paper, photographs.

Wet, moldy or heavily burnt raw materials are not accepted.

Waste paper must be properly prepared:

  • remove metal and plastic staples, spirals, paper clips, binders;
  • dry the material;
  • separate hard, laminated covers (if we are talking about books, you should make sure that they do not represent practical or aesthetic value).

Raw materials must be placed in boxes or tied with rope (plastic bags are not suitable for packaging).

It is convenient for waste recycling enterprises when the waste paper is already sorted and placed in special containers. The organizer may ask you to bring them to the educational institution in advance.

Collection of waste paper at preschool educational institutions

Environmental projects in kindergarten should only be implemented in older groups. At this age, children are already quite receptive to new information and understand the terms “wood”, “cellulose”, “fiber”, “waste paper”, “recycling”.

Students will be interested in learning the history of the invention of paper, the technology of its production in the 20th and 21st centuries, varieties and varieties of material.

During the event, kids receive answers to basic questions:

  • where does used paper go after it is thrown away?
  • what needs to be done to reduce waste;
  • how to properly separate garbage so that part of it goes for recycling.

The most interesting part of the events dedicated to the collection of waste paper is practical exercises:

  • drawing: students are invited to draw a picture on the topic of protecting forestry (if the collection of waste paper in a kindergarten occurs in the winter, you can organize a competition of thematic drawings and crafts “live Christmas tree”);
  • the teacher prepares the raw materials and, together with the children, makes “homemade paper”;
    Using soaked newspaper or napkins, you can make papier-mâché crafts.

In a scenario about waste paper in a preschool educational institution, you can include entire mini-performances and theatrical skits on the theme “let’s collect paper waste and save our forest.” Costumes and decorations are prepared by the kindergarten students from rags, festive tinsel, unnecessary papers and bags.

Such projects have significant practical value. Children learn to respect the things around them: books, albums, notebooks. Understanding that every piece of paper has high value instills in children awareness and responsibility for their actions.

During the joint preparation of thematic drawings and crafts, parents can fill in the “gaps” in their environmental education and become the best example for their child.

Organizational nuances and summing up the results of the action

Students need to prepare leaflets with instructions for collecting waste paper. They indicate the tasks and rules of the event, and indicate the principles for choosing material.

Activities are coordinated at several levels:

  • a student is appointed in the class to be responsible for collection;
  • the class teacher prepares an action plan and monitors its implementation;
  • The school principal or his authorized representative coordinates the removal of waste paper for recycling.

Only the project manager can say what they do with waste paper at school after the general collection. If the action is carried out on the initiative of the director of an educational institution, the material is usually sent for recycling.

The funds raised from the collected paper can be used to purchase incentive prizes for active participants, or spent on the current needs of the educational institution: sports equipment, decorations for the holiday, equipment for chemistry and biology classrooms, library collections.

The report on waste paper collection at school must include information about where the money was spent. This will serve as good advertising for the project and motivate students to participate in future activities.

March 25 at 20-30 The annual environmental event “Earth Hour” will take place on Tverskaya Square in Moscow for the eighth time!

Purpose of the action– to remind people of the need for a careful and responsible attitude towards the environment.

In solidarity with these goals Department of Natural Resources Management and Environmental Protection of the City of Moscow And project "Paper BOOM" invite educational institutions take part in the charity waste paper collection competition “Paper BOOM-Earth Hour”!

Hand over your waste paper and contribute to the conservation of forests as a sign of concern for the future of our planet! 1 ton of old paper sent for recycling saves up to 17 trees, saves 14,000 liters of clean water and 1000 kW/h of electricity.

In addition, funds raised from the delivery of waste paper as part of the campaign will be used to support the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) “Save Your Forest” program (http://60.wwf.ru/save-forest/).

All participants will receive certificates of gratitude from WWF and diplomas from the “Paper BOOM” project.

3 winners will be additionally awarded with valuable eco-prizes. Among the prizes: a portable solar battery, outdoor environmental games on the topic of resource conservation and waste recycling, certificates for planting trees, etc.

The award ceremony will take place on March 25 as part of the official city holiday program dedicated to Earth Hour. Taking into account that 2017 has been declared the year of ecology and specially protected natural areas, a musical program, competitions and prizes await all participants in the festive program.

This year the event will take place not only in Moscow, but also in other cities where the “Paper BOOM” event is taking place!

To register and get more information please send to the address: [email protected] a letter with the subject “Paper BOOM – Earth Hour”, in the letter indicate the name of the educational institution, contact phone number and e-mail, the desired date for handing over the waste paper.

With the results of the “Paper BOOM-Earth Hour” campaign in 2016 you can find it here: website/summarized-the-results-of-the-collection-of-waste-paper-within-the-earth-hour-action

Results of the work carried outWWFunder the “Save your forest” program in 2016:

1. Over the past six months, WWF has concluded 4 new moratorium agreements with timber companies, providing for the voluntary refusal of companies to harvest in intact forest areas (IFL). As a result, 231 thousand hectares of IFL were excluded from logging. In total, there are currently agreements in place that protect more than 2 million hectares of IFL from logging.

2. A protection zone was created for the Onezhskoe Pomorye NP in the Arkhangelsk region, and the IFLs were removed from the felling.

3. Thanks to an active campaign in the press against the new Timber Harvesting Rules, significant changes were made to them aimed at maintaining the ban on logging of pine trees, including in the IFL.

4. On December 21, 2016, a protocol was signed between WWF, Greenpeace and the Titan group of companies, providing for the consent of these companies to create a large protected area in the Arkhangelsk region, providing for the preservation of the last large IFL tract in Europe in the interfluve of the river. Dvina and r. Pinega in the Arkhangelsk region.

5. A lot of scientific work has been carried out to develop and test methods for identifying the most valuable IFL sites in Siberia and the Far East, in order to then ensure their conservation.

These results became possible, among other things, thanks to our contribution following the results of the “Paper BOOM-Earth Hour” campaign!

Introduction

Waste paper is an already used paper production product, that is, something that can be recycled to produce new products. And this means new notebooks, textbooks, books, magazines.

Have you ever wondered what happens to a newspaper, magazine or brochure after you read it? If you throw it away, it will end up in a landfill, where it will rot peacefully among other garbage. And if you handed it over as secondary raw materials (waste paper), then it will get a second life. First, all returned waste paper will be sorted into paper and cardboard, then it will be recycled. At the enterprise, it will be crushed, mixed with water until a homogeneous semi-liquid mass is obtained, and printing ink will be washed out of it with soap and special solvents. Then wire staples, glue, plastic particles, and mineral dirt particles will be removed from the mass. The purified mass will form into a paper strip.

There is an opinion that waste paper can only be used to produce low-quality products, such as toilet paper or wrapping paper. Yes, indeed, until recently there was such a trend, but with the advent of new modern equipment, it became possible to produce high-quality products, including building materials: ecowool, thermal insulation material, fiber boards, etc. The production of such similar materials from waste paper is not very expensive because, as a rule, the product contains recycled materials (up to 80%).

One of the most effective ways to organize a large-scale waste paper collection is to involve schools in this process. After all, people accumulate a huge amount of paper, books, brochures, which become outdated and unnecessary. You need to get rid of them, but wisely and usefully. And, if possible, involve children in this process at school in order to teach them in practice how to respect nature and explain to them the importance of the activities that they carry out.

It's worth thinking about:

  • 100 kilograms of waste paper is one tree saved;
  • About a quarter of all trash on the planet is paper waste and paper products;
  • The average Russian needs 25 kilograms of paper per year, so one family can save 1 tree per year if desired;
  • The area of forests on our planet is constantly decreasing, therefore, the shortage of trees will become a global problem in the near future;
  • Over the past few years, global paper consumption has increased several times. The advent of computers, various electronic document management systems and other modern technologies did not change this trend.

Relevance

  • Have you had an unnecessary pile of newspapers and other paper waste at home for a long time, piled somewhere in the corner and you are too lazy to throw them out?
  • And at the same time, students are looking for new opportunities to realize their ideas and plans?
  • A lot of garbage and lack of material opportunities for school activists?
  • We found a solution to all pressing issues at once!

Our project is...

Project goals: To prove the need for economical use of paper, to teach respect for natural resources.

Project objectives:

  • Identify the environmental benefits of collecting waste paper.
  • Carrying out a campaign to collect waste paper
  • Draw students' attention to the need to use paper sparingly
  • Find out how you can use waste paper at home.

Practical significance:

  • This project teaches responsible stewardship of the environment and natural resources;
  • Recycling waste paper saves valuable natural resources;
  • In a competitive game form, attract students to socially significant work aimed at preserving the forests of Russia, conserving natural resources and cleaning the city from paper waste;
  • Drawing attention to environmental problems and the need for recycling natural resources.

Expected results:

According to various sources from the Internet, there are claims that from 60 to 100 kilograms of waste paper can be saved by 1 tree. This means that in three weeks, my class and our loved ones have already saved one tree. By continuing this work, we will find out how many trees we will save in a year. Approximately 1727 kg should be collected, which means we will save 18 trees 1727 kg = 18 trees.

Project prospects:

It is clear that collecting waste paper cannot completely solve the problem of deforestation. It is known that 1 ton of waste paper replaces about 4 cubic meters of wood, which means that the use of waste paper can significantly save wood and reduce deforestation. And by collecting and handing over waste paper, you can not only save part of the forest from deforestation, but also reduce the area of the landfill, and also receive, albeit not a large, economic benefit. Students of the Young Biologist association decided to encourage students at their school to constantly collect waste paper and spoke to them at a school assembly. If you constantly collect waste paper and turn it into a good habit, then you will probably get more benefits. The more people think about this now, the cleaner the earth will remain for descendants and the more trees will be preserved, which means the air will be cleaner.

3. What is made from waste paper

In the mass consciousness of the general population, there is an opinion that waste paper is only suitable for the production of low-grade goods, mainly for technical and sanitary purposes.

Indeed, production facilities in the countries of the former USSR are set to recycling of waste paper with its subsequent use for the production of technical grade paper of low quality, whereas in developed countries, secondary raw materials have long been used to produce high-quality products, products for a wide variety of purposes.

As a consequence of this, new modern technologies are becoming widespread in Russia, making it possible to produce not only clean, white paper, but also new building materials.

As the main direction of introducing new technologies into waste paper recycling process, the direction of subsequent production of environmentally friendly goods, cotton wool, sanitary and hygienic materials, and thermal insulation material has been chosen.

Waste paper recycling technology involves going through several stages. First, the waste paper goes through a process of thorough crushing into fibers, simultaneously being treated with special additives, the main purpose of which is to disinfect the resulting mass and make the material less flammable.

As a result of these manipulations, a loose dry substance with low thermal conductivity is obtained. During recycling of waste paper, an important factor is low energy consumption, which makes it possible to reduce the cost of the resulting product. More than 80% of the raw materials used to produce paper products can be obtained from recycled waste paper. Borax and boric acid are used as additives, which not only improve the quality of the resulting paper pulp, but also make it sterile.

Ecowool obtained during the production process, not so popular in its application. The thing is that the modern production of these products does not allow using all the advantages of this material. The ongoing production of ecowool panels can radically change the situation with the use of ecowool in construction and other sectors of the national economy.

In addition to the production of ecowool, waste paper is used for the production of fiber boards, which are mainly used for interior decoration. In this case, the waste paper undergoes wet processing, then pressed and thoroughly dried. The material obtained in this way is distinguished by high technological characteristics, the main of which is environmental safety. When processing waste from laminated paper, paper-polymer boards are obtained, which are widely used as a finishing material.

Another main area for using waste paper is the production of whole range of roofing materials.

The most widespread production of containers and packaging from recycled materials obtained. Well-known cages and cassettes for eggs, various packing sheets and gaskets for packaging food, household appliances, furniture and other consumer goods. Waste paper of group “A”, the highest class, is used to produce excellent office paper, paper for the printing industry.

Looking at the wide abundance of goods that are produced using recycled materials, to say that waste paper is intended mainly for the production of low-grade goods, at least, does not seem correct.

Having understood the production of goods based on the use of waste paper, it makes it possible to talk about the scope of use of raw materials. The raw materials obtained from sorted waste paper are primarily used for the production of packaging and wrapping materials. The production of these products is not so labor-intensive; moreover, the low cost of the resulting products plays an important role here. This is followed by food packaging, egg trays, materials for packaging household chemicals and household electrical appliances.

Closing this list is the release of disposable pots for seedlings and seed germination. The highest class waste paper is used in the production of writing paper, printing and sanitary products. As a basis, materials made from waste paper are used in the production of building and roofing materials. As an addition to already developed areas, waste paper is used for the production of disposable tableware, car mats, disposable clothing and other goods.
In accordance with GOST 10700-97, all used white paper belongs to group “A”, which includes high-quality recycled materials. Such waste paper is marked MS-1A. During processing, their high-quality waste paper get cellulose, which again goes into the production of new printing products, writing and printing paper. In the process of processing various colored, laminated and glossy paper, waste obtained from wrappers, colorful packaging, newspapers and magazines, raw materials are obtained for the manufacture of various roofing materials, containers and packaging.

During processing, old books that have been read and become unusable are used to produce new book publishing products. Among the most convenient types and types of waste paper is cardboard. Cardboard, obtained from recycled materials, is considered the most common packaging material that can be recycled several times.

4. Sociological survey

1. Do you think that forest loss is an environmental problem?

2. What measures do you think can solve this problem?

3. How much waste paper is needed to save one tree?

4. How many years does it take for a full-fledged tree to grow?

5. Conclusion.

As you know, the main material from which paper is made is wood. To produce paper, many trees that have been growing for many years must be cut down. But planting a new tree and growing it requires a lot of expense and effort. In addition, to grow a good tree you need to wait on average 50 years. Massive cutting down of plantations will lead to great negative consequences. Therefore, it is very necessary to hand over waste paper!

At our school, it was decided to organize a waste paper collection. Before starting the practical part, teachers held classroom hours where the children were explained why they needed to do this. For several months, children and their parents brought various types of paper waste to school. As a result, about 1 ton 727 kg of waste paper was collected. All collected paper was handed over to the waste paper collection point, and all children who took part in this event received certificates. Some guys who brought a large amount of waste paper received prizes. But is the benefit of such an action measured only by money and prizes? Joint activities, strong friendships, feasible contributions to helping other people, keeping the environment clean and much more that makes our lives better...

Now our class has a box for collecting waste paper, into which we began to put paper and leftover cardboard, notes, notebooks with assignments, magazines and books. The guys and I decided not to stop there, but will continue to continue this noble cause!

Thus a new useful and good tradition was born in our class!

Hand over waste paper - save a tree!

Under this motto in kindergarten No. 3 “Firefly” on February 2, 2017. An event was held - collecting waste paper, dedicated to the year of ecology in our country.

The purpose of the action is to attract the attention of teachers, students, and their parents to the problem of a careful, prudent attitude towards such wealth - like forest, which is an important natural resource in human economic activity, but an even more important resource in preserving the ecology of the environment - these are “the lungs of our planet "

The event was preceded by a lot of work by teachers with children and parents. In the course of the work, the task was solved: to introduce children to one of the ways to preserve the forest - collecting waste paper, which everyone, even preschoolers, can do, and to implement this in practice with the involvement of the students' parents.

The work of teachers with children was aimed at motivating the collection of waste paper. During organized educational activities, conducted in the form of conversations, stories, observations, presentations, experiments and research work, children learned about how and where paper comes from, in what areas of activity it is used. Children also learned that a lot of necessary things can be made from recycled materials (waste paper) without cutting down a tree:

Various types of containers and packaging (cages and cassettes for eggs, various packing sheets and gaskets for packaging food, household appliances, furniture and other consumer goods),

- disposable pots for seedlings and seed germination,

- paper towels, napkins, toilet paper,

The highest class of waste paper is used to produce excellent office paper, paper for the printing industry, etc.

The action, to which we also added an element of competition (which group will save the most trees?) began earlier than the day for the delivery of waste paper was set. Parents and children began to bring waste paper, neatly folded, tied and weighed in advance, because each group wanted to be ahead. The result exceeded all our expectations. We expected to collect about 200 kilograms of waste paper, but we collected 643 kilograms!

Group No. 3 “Romashka” took first place, collecting 205 kg. waste paper, in second place is group No. 7 “Cornflower” - 121 kg, in third place is group No. 4 “Forget-me-not” - 116 kg. Other groups also made significant contributions. Prizes await the winners!

We are confident that the campaign marked the beginning of the formation of an environmental culture among our students and their parents and we plan to continue working in this direction. I would like to believe that the new generation will grow up more environmentally literate and separate waste collection will be the norm for them in everyday life.

The relay race of the campaign “Hand over waste paper - save a tree!” We give it to kindergarten No. 4 “Baby”.

Firulina K.Z - senior teacher, Pavlova T.V. - Deputy Head of Security.

Have you ever wondered how much “unnecessary” paper we throw away just like that? Pay attention to how much paper we throw into the trash bin every day: this is not only the newspapers and magazines we read, but also paper spam that falls into our mailboxes and store supplies. receipts, bags and wrappers, as well as medicine boxes and much, much more. Luckily, paper is a biodegradable material. That is, once it ends up in a landfill, it will simply disappear over time without a trace and will not cause any harm to the environment, unlike, for example, batteries.

In the last couple of decades, residents not only of Russia, but of the whole world have been managing natural resources too irrationally, and if their attitude towards nature does not change, then an environmental catastrophe is almost inevitable.

IMPORTANCE IN PRESERVING TREES AND GREEN PLANTINGS FOR ECOLOGY

To prevent an undesirable outcome, as well as to save green spaces, Russia has a campaign to collect waste paper, which applies to every resident. Its essence is to:

  • convince people to take care of natural materials and resources, including paper;
  • do not throw it in the trash, but carry out regular collection and delivery to the appropriate services;
  • engage in processing and production from secondary raw materials;
  • reduce tree cutting

Here are some facts about waste paper:

  • 60 kilograms of waste paper equals 1 tree saved;
  • Every Russian citizen produces about 25 kilograms of paper products per year, that is, every average family can save at least one tree per year;
  • waste paper accounts for approximately 40% of all solid waste by weight;
  • The area of forests on the planet is constantly decreasing, so the shortage of trees will become a significant problem in the very near future.

And if your hand trembled at least once when you were throwing a pile of papers into the trash bin, then you are just in step from the beginning of a new life in which you begin to hand over waste paper.

Get a box at home in which you will put all the waste paper: this is not only newspapers, but also glossy magazines, and unnecessary papers, and not the most successful children's drawings, and medicine boxes. Even if this paper is torn, crumpled, or has an irregular shape, no one will force you to carefully fold it and tie it with string, as was the case at the pioneer waste paper collections.

It is necessary to instill in children the right eco-habits from childhood. Tell us what paper is made of and why trees need to be protected. After all, we all want us and our children to grow up on a GREEN PLANET.

By collecting waste paper, YOU save trees and cleanse our city of garbage!

Don't be shy, join our environmental campaign!

Together we can improve the environment and make our city cleaner!!!
