Which one is better to choose?

Having considered all the presented models, you can accurately determine which phone is better to choose for your grandmother or grandfather. This 2019 rating of push-button phones, which includes ten different models, reveals to users both the advantages and disadvantages of each device.

In 2016, phones with a full keyboard look a little more modern than fragments of a mammoth in the Zoological Museum of St. Petersburg. Of course, you can find rare keyboard models on Yandex.Market, but they are produced only by old-wave vendors, as if apologizing for the fact that the whole world has already switched to touch screens.

Today's push-button phones are monstrously simplified devices, usually made of the cheapest plastic, equipped with the most primitive cameras and the most grainy screens.

Question “Which phone with buttons do you recommend?” I hear about once a month and I never have an answer. We have to talk about the advantages of a touch screen and explain that pointing your fingers at the screen is more convenient than moving the cursor with a joystick. Some interlocutors agree, but there are also those for whom the prolonged trend of abandoning physical keys is a disaster.

I can also understand these people: push-button devices had advantages that are appropriate to remember a month before the tenth anniversary of the first iPhone.

Below is a list loaded with nostalgia.

Siemens SX1

The most daring, original and underrated smartphone of its time. SX1 came out at the end of 2003 and broke absolutely all the molds: firstly, it had Symbian 6.1 (the prerogative of Nokia), and secondly, the buttons were located on the sides, and not at the bottom of the display.

Due to the unusual form factor and high price ($700 at launch, with the average phone price tag around 200 bucks), sales of the SX1 were not outstanding. But then Siemens lowered the price (first to 500, and then to 250 dollars) and produced a bunch of specialized versions.

Seriously, I don’t know of any other gadget that is so actively used as a Limited Edition. I trust Wikipedia more than memory, so I’ll quote a fact from there: SX1 came out in 11 official modifications, not counting operator's ones. The smartphone was decorated with carbon fiber and kangaroo leather, pumped up in honor of the Formula 1 stages, equipped with a cover with GPS and (attention!) an ingenious laser keyboard.

At the same time, SX1 is my main pain point. I began to be interested in technology in the fall of 2005, when finding this device in Russia was already problematic. As a result, I took the fat and weak Rover PC Sendo X1 with the same Symbian 6.1, and then suffered with it for a year and a half.

Siemens C65

This phone was the icon of all stores that sold used gadgets.

Initially, Siemens C65 was sold absolutely everywhere and cost less than 4,000 rubles, so they bought it for children. The further scenario was sad: drug addicts of the 2000s regularly snatched devices from schoolchildren and took them to a buying house in order to earn money for a new dose. This fate spared me, but two classmates lost their C65s in exactly this way - they walked into a dark arch, saw a knife in front of them, got scared, and turned their pockets out.

The C-Class was considered a total economy, but the cheap C65 was almost as good as either the CX65 or C75. The only weak point of this beautiful blue phone was the camera: 0.11 megapixels is now difficult to imagine even in the front modules.

It was very easy to get used to the C65: people used it for years, and when the time came for an update, they were terribly surprised that Siemens no longer produced phones.

Nokia N-Gage

The craziest smartphone made by Nokia. In 2003, it was believed that users should be surprised, and the Finns designed a pocket game console with phone function. The screen was dim, there was no camera at all, the battery lasted only a few hours, games were needed fish from forums, and the buttons were located inconveniently.

But no one cared: crowds of spectators always gathered around gamers from N-Gage.

Then the smartphone came out in version QD(without radio and player) and became very cheap. When I look at the N-Gage in 2016, I realize how much progress changes the perception of things. Eleven years ago, this console seemed like the pinnacle of technology, but now it looks like an antediluvian monstrosity with a disproportionately tiny screen.

Sony Ericsson W800i

The phone that received the best promotion in 2005. If the K750i was immediately positioned as a strict camera phone, then the W800i SE, which is identical in function, did a smarter job: it was made the most versatile flagship on the market.

Bright, expensive and multimedia (another word from the 2000s), the W800i appeared on the cover of the Svyaznoy catalog, and in photographs in online reviews it appeared either with headphones (Sony Walkman, that’s all) or with speakers (they generally caused an orgasm).

W800i looked at the same time youthful and expensive– this was his main advantage. I sincerely envy those who bought it in the first months of sales: I can imagine the bliss these lucky ones felt when opening the box and removing the film from the screen.

Sony Ericsson P990i

A smartphone that proves that touchscreen and keyboard are compatible. In 2006, the SE P990i was located on such catalog pages that it was scary to enter - at first they asked for 3 average Russian salaries for the device.

I got to know the P990i from other people's reviews and always got angry when someone called the model slow, although in fact it was (64 MB of RAM).

Absolutely everything about this device attracted me: a giant screen, a stylus, a physical keyboard, a lid with a number pad, a control wheel, keys for the player - the P990i was stuffed to the limit and therefore unique.

The smartphone did not break the sales of Nokia gadgets only because of the exorbitant price and a strange version of the OS, for which it was difficult to find the necessary applications.

Samsung D880 Duos

The phone that changed the entire market in Russia: it was after Duos that dual-SIM phones and smartphones began to be produced en masse.

At the same time, the D880 itself, developed, as it turned out, specifically for our country, was average in terms of functions and weak in terms of price (it was overpriced), but ideal in terms of reliability. My D880 is still alive: its slider mechanism has not become loose, the camera has not become dirty, and the battery has not deteriorated. True, the markings on the buttons have worn off, but this is the only drawback after eight years.

Nokia 6700

The phone that is currently missing. Nokia 6700 – embodiment classic push-button device: steel body, reasonable price, excellent bright screen, camera with autofocus, support for memory cards, normal battery - in general, no overload. The only drawback is a dash in the “Wi-Fi” column.

This model has not been on sale for a long time, because the limit for a modern phone with keys is 4-5 thousand rubles. In 2013, they tried to sell Nokia 515 at a higher price, and it ended in failure: the device was severely criticized for zero functionality with an inflated price tag.

Accordingly, it won’t be possible to revive the 6700 either: it’s more profitable to stamp plastic bricks with touchscreens.

Nokia N73

The phone with the best keyboard in history. By N-Series standards, the N73 was an ordinary gadget (except for music), but fans of ICQ (and other instant messengers) highly appreciated the model precisely because of its chic buttons. They were conveniently located, they had an excellent ride, and no one ever doubted the T9 from Nokia. As a result, typing speed was almost the same as using a computer keyboard.

At some point (closer to the end of the 2000s), the N73 dropped in price to 10 thousand rubles and became a popular hit: it was swept off the shelves, despite the massive penetration of cheap touchscreen phones from the Samsung Star line.

Nokia E72

I have a very positive and respectful attitude towards BlackBerry, but apparently I didn’t catch the moment when smartphones of this brand were popular in Russia. Perhaps Canadians did not realize the potential in our country due to the influence of Nokia, because the Finns loved to release QWERTY flagships.

The best of them, it seems to me, is not the omnivorous fat E90, but the stylish metal one E72. It had a cool touch joystick, a phenomenally ergonomic keyboard (even for one hand), a decent camera, decent sound and a divine battery. The E72 could hold a charge for four days - this did not bother anyone. Another advantage was the hard glass - the screen of the 72nd model always survived drops.

At the start, a QWERTY monobloc cost about 20 thousand, and when it became cheaper, it became useless to anyone: iPhones poured into Russia.

Mobile phones have undergone a relatively rapid evolution from bulky bricks to thin plates. Nowadays, advanced touchscreen smartphones are at the peak of popularity, the capabilities of which we were afraid to dream about just 10 years ago. Push-button phones have practically fallen out of general use, but are still present in the range of many companies.
In 2017, only the best push-button phones are in demand. An additional advantage of these devices is their budget cost. The price of devices rarely exceeds 10,000 rubles.

The best feature phones 2017

Mobile devices with buttons are great for kids. Parents won’t have to guess about the child’s location, and few people will want to steal such a device. Plus, losing a feature phone won't cause much regret or a dent in your wallet.
Push-button phones are in demand among older people who, due to their age, find it difficult to understand the modern smartphone interface. These devices are also preferred by business people. Battery life, speaker quality, and a convenient menu are important to them.

Choosing any mobile phone requires a careful approach, searching for information, and analyzing the assortment. For the convenience of users, a rating of push-button mobile phones in 2017 has been created.

Opens the MaxVI P11 list. The classic design and compact size create a pleasant impression. The gadget will be relevant for businessmen due to its versatility. In addition, there is a slot for three SIM cards at once, which is indispensable in work.

Nokia 515

In eighth place is the stylish Nokia 515 push-button device. Framed in an aluminum case, it looks expensive and respectable. It’s not a shame to get such a copy among a crowded public.

The buttons are large, making it easy for people with poor vision to use the device. They occupy approximately 40% of the body space, the rest of the space is allocated to the display. Nokia 515 is equipped with a 3G network, web surfing speed is above average.

Characteristics:

  1. screen 2.4″, resolution 320×240;

BQ BQM 2408 Mexico has a seven rating. The ergonomic gadget has a unique function - it supports 4 SIM cards simultaneously. This technology is not even available in modern smartphones. The quality of communication is excellent, the signal is picked up instantly.

The battery could have been more powerful - 800 mAh retains its charge for less than a day. The camera takes standard pictures at 0.3 megapixels. The small TFT screen is bright, but the color ratio is too high.

In sixth position is the modest Fly TS112. The manufacturing company cannot boast of the durability of its products, but this unit is designed with dignity. The robust body can withstand a fall, which is not typical for inexpensive push-button phones.
In addition, the device is equipped with an energy-dense battery, the power of which is often found in smartphones. The display, large for a push-button operator, is covered with plexiglass, but has an air gap.

Characteristics:

  1. support for three SIM cards;
  2. camera 1.30 MP;
  3. screen 2.8″, resolution 320×240;
  4. memory 32 MB, memory card slot;
  5. battery 1400 mAh.

  • flashlight;
  • stylish design.

The central, fifth place belongs to the DEXP Larus M8 model. The monolithic body is assembled reliably, there are no creaks, every part of the device is firmly held. There is a powerful 3-amp battery installed here, so the mobile phone is heavy. The intensive use mode discharges the battery in 8-10 hours.

The device supports both two SIM cards and a microSD memory card up to 16 GB. The built-in memory is 32 MB - enough space for music and video clips.

Characteristics:

  1. support for two SIM cards;
  2. camera;
  3. screen 2.4″, resolution 320×240;
  4. memory 32 MB, memory card slot;
  5. battery 3000 mAh.

Pros:

  • The battery holds well;

Minuses:

  • it is impossible to place a personal call and photo on a contact;
  • camera.

Another representative of the Finnish brand was included in the ranking of the best push-button phones of 2017 and took the fourth place. And this is not surprising - since the distant 2000s, the company has been listed as a leading manufacturer of high-quality cellular phones.

Nokia 216 is an enchanting return of the branded push-button phone. It has a familiar design, an ideal price-quality ratio and practical technical characteristics.
The display is well-designed for color reproduction, the white balance is comfortably adjusted, and the photos turn out juicy and bright. There is even a front camera, albeit of low resolution.

Characteristics:

  1. screen 2.4″, resolution 320×240;
  2. camera 0.30 MP;
  3. memory card slot;

Minuses:

  • weak battery;
  • glossy screen that gets dirty very easily.

The top three best push-button phones of 2017 opens with Nokia's most constant competitor - Samsung Metro B350E. The main feature of the Metro B350E is its impressively tuned screen. The ideal format provides detailed images and does not highlight pixels.

The gadget's interface is thought out to the smallest detail; there are even original menu icons.

Characteristics:

  1. screen 2.4″, resolution 320×240;
  2. camera 2 MP;
  3. memory 32 MB, memory card slot;

  5. WxHxD 51.30×117.50×11.90 mm.

Pros:

  • lightweight, fits comfortably in the hand;
  • good audibility;
  • The battery lasted for 5 days on the first charge.

Minuses:

  • inability to remove SIM cards from the screen;

The silver top and second place went to Philips Xenium E181. The phone embodies the best qualities that are only possible for this type of device - a capacious battery, an excellent camera, a smooth menu, a user-friendly interface.

The absolute leader and first place winner is the popular brand specializing in the production of QWERTY phones - BlackBerry. The Q10 model once again proved that push-button phones deserve attention.

The familiar keyboard, located in 4 rows, allows you to quickly and accurately use the device both for work and for entertainment. The buttons are wide enough to type without being bulky at all.
The internal hardware of the device ensures smooth operation of the menu, high gaming performance, and the ability to install applications.
Taking into account the technical characteristics of the BlackBerry Q10, we can safely call it the best feature phone of 2017.

Characteristics:

  1. QWERTY keyboard;

Cell phones and cell phones with buttons are outdated models, but they are still in demand among many consumers. Using the presented rating, you will be able to choose the best push-button phone of 2017.

Despite the popularity of modern touchscreen smartphones, there are still users who prefer push-button phones. Of course, they are mostly elderly people, but there are also those who simply don’t need any bells and whistles, the main thing is that the phone rings. We analyzed the market and selected the best solutions based on their photo capabilities and autonomy. You can see what came out of this in our rating of feature phones with a good camera and battery for 2018-2019.

No. 7 – Philips E560

Price: 3,539 rubles

The inexpensive Philips E560 is one of the loudest phones in the company's range. If you set the volume on your device to maximum, you are guaranteed to hear a call, even if you are on the subway. In general, the sound quality of the model is excellent - there is no dull sound in the conversational speaker, plus there is a noise reduction system, so even when talking on the street, your interlocutor will only hear you.

The main advantage of the model is its autonomy. The 3010 mAh battery lasts for one and a half to two weeks. At the same time, you can easily turn the brightness slider to maximum to comfortably use the screen in the sun. As for the 2-megapixel camera, it will come to your aid if you need to take a photo of a book page or some document; you shouldn’t count on anything more. The Philips E560 has no significant shortcomings, but the joystick spoils the operating experience a little. People with thumbs will press adjacent number buttons.

No. 6 – teXet TM-513R

Price: 3,410 rubles

The teXet TM-513R push-button telephone has a body protected from water and shock. There are no complaints about the build quality - everything is done conscientiously. The model has a very good 2570 mAh battery. This value is enough for the user to have to use the charger no more than once a week. The speaker is also pleasing - the call can be heard even in a noisy place, and when playing melodies you will be surprised by the purity of the sound.

The teXet TM-513R is unlikely to surprise anyone with its photographic capabilities. A 2-megapixel sensor is clearly not enough for those who want to use it to take pictures for their Instagram, but if you have more modest needs, then there will be no complaints about it. More significant drawbacks include the non-standard menu interface, which you will have to get used to at first.

No. 5 – Nokia 3310 Dual Sim

Price: 2,990 rubles

Nokia is one of the few that still pays attention to the segment of inexpensive push-button phones. Its model Nokia 3310 Dual Sim, released in February last year, differs from its competitors in its striking appearance. The design of the mobile phone resembles a Tamagotchi or some kind of toy. Moreover, as you can guess from the name, it supports two SIM cards at once.

The 2.4-inch display, surprisingly, has bright and rich colors, as well as good contrast. Also, the Nokia 3310 Dual Sim has a very good battery, which is quite capable of lasting about 5-7 days with active use of the phone. The camera, in general, is standard, what you would expect in a feature phone. True, it clearly lacks autofocus. There are no serious shortcomings that spoil the impression of the model. If there are only shortcomings in the form of a constant “no SIM” message when you do not use a second SIM card, as well as the inability to link two numbers to one contact.

Nokia 3310 Dual Sim

No. 4 – Philips Xenium E570

Price: 4,505 rubles

Philips Xenium E570 will appeal to those who need a mobile phone with a good battery. A battery with a capacity of 3610 mAh lasts for an average of one and a half to two weeks of use. If you use the phone extremely rarely, the value can increase up to a month. Also, I would like to note the metal lid. Thanks to it, the Philips Xenium E570 will be able to survive several encounters with asphalt.

The speaker volume will be enough even to hear a call on a busy street. A camera with a 2 MP sensor resolution can produce good results in the presence of sufficient lighting; in its absence there will be a mess of pixels and noise. The model turned out to be really successful, but still not ideal. The disadvantages include a strange interface that does not fit modern standards, as well as rather weak vibration.

Philips Xenium E570

No. 3 – SENSEIT P300

Price: 5,360 rubles

SENSEIT P300 intelligently implements protection against water, dust and shock. Due to this, your mobile phone will serve you for many years. All this time, it will delight you with excellent autonomy, which is provided by a 2500 mAh battery. On average, it will need to be charged once every 10-14 days.

I would also like to note the 2.4-inch screen with a resolution of 400 by 360 pixels. The image on it is surprisingly bright and juicy. Plus, the font used in the interface is large, so older people will not have problems recognizing the text. A 2-megapixel camera is quite enough to capture some important object. The disadvantages of the model include crooked design and unstable firmware.

No. 2 – Nokia 8110 4G

Price: 4,990 rubles

Nokia 8110 4G, made in a slider form factor, resembles a banana in its appearance. This is especially noticeable when the phone is extended. In addition to the non-standard design, the device offers its owner support for 4G networks, as well as a decent level of autonomy. On average, it can last 4-5 days on a single charge.

I would especially like to mention the speaker. Both when talking and listening to music, it produces clear sound; in this parameter, the Nokia 8110 4G can easily compete with modern smartphones. The 2-megapixel camera with LED flash is enough for document photos. On the street you can achieve something with the right lighting, but if you decide to shoot at night, you will be unpleasantly surprised by the detail of the photo. The disadvantages of the device include an uncomfortable keyboard, although only those with large fingers will encounter this.

#1 – BlackBerry KEY2

Price: 38,500 rubles

BlackBerry KEY2 is a true flagship in the world of feature phones. It has an elegant and stylish business design, so the gadget will look most harmonious in the hands of a businessman. The build quality is at a premium level - the design is reliable, nothing creaks or plays.

The smartphone turned out to be quite good in terms of autonomy. The 3500 mAh battery lasts for two to two and a half days of operation. This is despite the fact that there is a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1620 by 1080 pixels, which produces a bright picture with natural color reproduction and a powerful Snapdragon 660 processor, which is fast in both games and regular applications.

The photographic capabilities of the BlackBerry KEY2 are represented by a dual main camera of 12+12 MP and an 8-megapixel front camera. Both modules are implemented well, but in our opinion, the rear camera turned out especially well. It has a macro mode, as well as autofocus, and in general, photos are obtained with the correct color balance and a decent level of sharpness. Serious disadvantages include the price. Still, even taking into account the fact that this is a good camera, the cost seems overpriced. Less significant disadvantages include the lack of NFC, support for 5 GHz Wi-Fi and the operation of two SIM cards simultaneously.
