For the third day in a row, the mercury column readings - today, September 27, atmospheric pressure was 767.2 millimeters of mercury. The 1973 highs were updated on Monday and Tuesday as well. According to forecasters, increased atmospheric pressure is expected tomorrow.

The Village spoke with a physician and specialist at the Phobos Weather Center about how pressure drops affect humans and how they affect the weather.

Alexey Fedorov

Head of the Surgical Department of the Center for Cardiovascular Surgery of the Burdenko Main Hospital

First of all, this question: where is a person experiencing the influence of high atmospheric pressure? In a metropolis, in the mountains, on an airplane. If we are talking about ordinary urban conditions, then pressure drops affect two categories of people. The first is weather-dependent, meteosensitive people who suffer from a disease on the verge of the nervous system and physiology. And without weather, they are characterized by sweating, mood swings. They experience headaches, weakness, apathy, dizziness, nausea. This is due to the disease itself, which is affected by fluctuations in the weather.

The second category is the heart, that is, people with cardiovascular diseases: coronary heart disease, hypertension. Their blood pressure rises in response to high atmospheric pressure. With ischemic disease, angina attacks are more frequent. People who have experienced a microstroke experience headaches, nausea, and dizziness.

Both those and others have a general decrease in working capacity, including around the house.

An increase in atmospheric pressure is associated with the arrival of an anticyclone - this is, as a rule, calm, dry weather, which is why the city does not blow as it should, therefore, harmful exhaust gases accumulate in the cities. In this case, in ordinary people, that is, those who cannot be attributed to either meteorological or heart-dependent, allergic reactions, asthma, chronic diseases, and respiratory tract diseases are aggravated. That is, it has more to do with the environment. Healthy people, as a rule, do not feel these phenomena, for them high atmospheric pressure passes unnoticed.

Evgeny Tishkovets

leading specialist of the weather center "Phobos", leading weather forecasts on the channel "Russia 24"

In fact, high atmospheric pressure is an anticyclone. What is happening for the third day in a row is connected with the Scandinavian anticyclone, the center of which is now located over Karelia. Most of the European part of Russia is under his influence. Therefore, now dry weather without precipitation prevails. The temperature will gradually decrease. Just today, September 27, there will be a border between the weather above 8 degrees and below. Therefore, now we are crossing the line when utilities turn on heating.

The average daily temperature will drop to 7.5 degrees. The date of the first frost is September 30, this weekend. The earliest frost in history was on September 7, 1956, and a year earlier, in 1955, the frost came later on October 21. Now atmospheric pressure is 20 points higher than normal. It will begin to gradually descend, but it will still remain high enough.

Many people, in one way or another, associate their state and well-being with changing weather conditions, which often leaves others at a loss, because they do not understand how a change in weather conditions can affect a person's health.

Everything is extremely simple - as a result of weather conditions, atmospheric pressure changes, to which the baroreceptors located in the vessels responsible for the blood supply to the brain react.

Because of the violation of this constant, all the problems arise - and this is not only an individual feature of the organism, but also a consequence of certain disorders on the part of the cardiovascular system.

The relationship between blood pressure and atmospheric pressure

We must not forget that with an increase in atmospheric pressure, the likelihood of a complication of hypertension - a crisis - increases significantly. If blood pressure rises to 220/120 mm Hg. Art. when the weather conditions change, the likelihood of other dangerous complications (embolism, thrombosis, coma) increases significantly.

Low atmospheric pressure

Low air pressure is called a cyclone. Its influence on the human body is manifested as follows:

  • rapid breathing;
  • increased heart rate;
  • a decrease in the force of a heartbeat (negative inotropic and batmotropic effect).

In addition, oxygen starvation can occur with a high probability, expiratory and inspiratory dyspnea will appear. Hypotensive patients are especially susceptible to this effect. Although, on the other hand, hypertensive patients can also “get it” well - the following are considered typical symptoms for them:

  • joint aches;
  • headache;
  • tinnitus.

An even more unfavorable effect that the weather can have on people with an unstable psyche: an increase in depressive conditions and even suicidal tendencies is possible. To ensure that a low Hg reading does not lead to undesirable consequences, at least provide a constant supply of fresh air into the room. Open at least a window, ventilate the apartment. Allow yourself a 2-3 hour nap, and enter something salty on the menu: a canned tomato or cucumber, or even a few slices of herring will not be superfluous. But keep in mind that this recommendation is only relevant for hypotensive patients. During a cyclone, people are strongly advised to consume as much liquid as possible, take a contrast shower several times a day and be sure to get enough sleep - at least 8 hours a day. If you learned in the morning that low atmospheric pressure will be observed on the territory of your city, then to avoid its effect on your body, you should drink coffee or lemon tincture. If this effect is not enough, take a pill.

At-risk groups

The dependence of blood pressure on atmospheric pressure is understood as a condition in which the human body is simply unable to respond in a timely manner to rapidly changing weather conditions and adapt to them. This feature is very rarely congenital - in the vast majority of cases, it is acquired with age. Meteorological dependence is based on various pathologies of the nervous system, impaired immunity, and dysfunction of the thyroid gland. The following factors can easily lead to the development of such a specific reaction to changes in meteorological conditions:

  • frequent stress;
  • physical weakness;
  • immunodeficiency;
  • violation of vascular tone.

Quite often, there is a pathological relationship between the influence of atmospheric pressure on human blood pressure and vegetative-vascular dystonia (neurocirculatory - its other name).

Among all other nosologies of the nervous system, which invariably lead to the appearance of meteorological dependence, there are any conditions accompanied by an increased load on the psyche - stress, neurosis, depression. In addition, people who perform sedentary work are at risk.

The lack of full-fledged and well-chosen physical activity leads to a significant and uncontrolled decrease in vascular tone, which is why they begin to react very sharply to changes in meteorological conditions.

Thyroid hormones are responsible for the adaptation of the body to the transformation of the surrounding environment. With hyperfunction of the thyroid gland (a condition called hyperthyroidism), there is an increase in blood pressure in response to changes in atmospheric pressure, with organ dysfunction (hypothyroidism) - its decrease. Rapid changes in air temperature can cause many health problems for hypertensive patients. During the anticyclone period, combined with heat, the risk of cerebral hemorrhages, as well as organic heart damage, increases significantly.

The actions of hypotensive and hypertensive patients in this case are fundamentally at odds, since it is necessary to deal with completely different pathogenetic mechanisms. People with low blood pressure definitely need to observe the following preventive measures in case of unfavorable (specifically for them) weather forecast:

  1. At any cost, ensure yourself a full, high-quality sleep - at least 8 hours a day. It is not in vain that this condition is put first on the list - only sleep can provide proper rest for neurotissues, and no methods or medications can replace it.
  2. You should consume the required amount of liquid - the water consumed will lead to an increase in the BCC, and this cannot but affect the level of blood pressure, it will certainly increase it.
  3. Take a contrast shower - 2 minutes under hot, and then 2 minutes under cold.
  4. A cup of strong coffee or a Citramon tablet will only do good.
  5. The actions of hypertensive patients with high atmospheric pressure differ in a qualitative way - this is due to the fact that dry, hot weather with high pressure is tolerated by them several times worse than by hypotensive patients:
  6. Hypertensive patients need to minimize the physical activity performed.
  7. Hide from the scorching sun in a cool, dark room.
  8. Observe a salt-free (note, hypotension, on the contrary, you need more) fruit and vegetable diet, refusing to eat fatty, fried high-calorie foods.
  9. It is imperative to carefully monitor the level of blood pressure, recording the indicators in a special diary. If blood pressure continues to rise further, it is necessary to take fast-acting antihypertensive drugs - Nifedipine and Captopress. However, in both cases under consideration - that is, with both high and low pressure, meteorological people are advised to consult a doctor. Attempts to cope with the problem on your own with a high probability can lead to serious complications.

Before using any remedies for headaches caused by changes in weather conditions, it is necessary to measure the blood pressure. It may happen that, contrary to the expectations of a person, it will have a completely different meaning. Accordingly, this will qualitatively affect the choice of patient management tactics and emergency care. In addition, we must not forget that there is a lack of compatibility between some drugs that increase blood pressure. To choose the drug "home first aid kit", it makes sense to consult a doctor. Nowhere else will you find a so-called drug compatibility chart that works equally well in all cases.

A person lives on the surface of the Earth, therefore his body is constantly under stress due to the pressure of the atmospheric column of air. When they do not change, he does not feel heaviness. But in a certain category of people experiencing real suffering. Reduced or increased atmospheric pressure on a person does not have the best effect, disrupting certain functions of the body.

Although there is no officially registered diagnosis of "meteorological dependence", we are still subject to weather fluctuations. Changes in the weather make you feel unwell, and in especially difficult situations people have to visit doctors and take medications. It is believed that in 10% of cases, meteorological dependence is inherited, and in the rest it is manifested due to health problems.

Meteorological dependence of children

Almost always, children's dependence on weather changes is the result of a difficult pregnancy or childbirth. Unfortunately, the consequences of such a birth remain with the child for a very long time, sometimes for the whole life. Diseases of the respiratory tract, autoimmune diseases, hypertension and hypotension can lead to the fact that a person will be weather-dependent throughout his life. It is very difficult to say exactly how low atmospheric pressure affects people with the same diseases. The manifestation of meteorological dependence is individual for everyone.

Increased atmospheric pressure

It is considered to be elevated pressure, which reaches levels exceeding 755 mm Hg. This information is always available, and you can find it out from the weather forecast. First of all, an increase in atmospheric pressure affects people who are prone to mental illness and also suffer from asthma. People with heart disease also feel uncomfortable. This is especially pronounced when the jump in atmospheric pressure occurs very abruptly.

How to improve the condition?

It will be useful for meteorological people not only to know how pressure affects a person, but also what to do when it rises. During this period, physical activity and sports should be avoided. It is important to dilate the blood vessels and make the blood thinner with the help of medications prescribed by the doctor, as well as through hot black tea and a small portion of alcohol, if there are no contraindications. Better to prefer wine or cognac.

Low atmospheric pressure

When the pressure drops to 748 mm Hg, weather-dependent people experience discomfort. The hypotonic becomes especially ill, they lose strength, nausea and dizziness appear. Low atmospheric pressure affects people with irregular heart rhythms. Their state of health leaves much to be desired, at this time it is more advisable to lie down at home. But worst of all, such a difference affects those people who are prone to depression and suicide. Their feelings of anxiety and anxiety increase, which can lead to sad consequences. That is why it is necessary to know such a feature of your body in order to be able to control your mood.

What should I do?

Understanding how low atmospheric pressure affects people is only half the battle. You need to know what measures you need to take in this case. First of all, you need to take care of the free access of fresh air. You can open a window or swing open a balcony door if there is no way to walk. During such periods, meteorological people will be helped by a good, sound sleep. Nutrition also plays an important role. To even out the ionic balance in the body, you need to eat a piece of salted fish or canned cucumber.

Flying in the air

When traveling in various aircraft or climbing a mountain, a person begins to experience stress and wonders how low atmospheric pressure affects people. The main factor is that the tension of this gas decreases in arterial blood, which stimulates the receptors of the carotid arteries. The impulse is transmitted to the brain, as a result of which breathing is intensified. Due to pulmonary ventilation, the body is able to provide oxygen at altitude.

But rapid and increased breathing alone is unable to fully compensate for all the difficulties that the body is experiencing. General performance is reduced by two factors:

Most people, being at a height, are faced with a violation of some physiological functions, which leads to oxygen starvation of tissues. can have various manifestations, but most often it is shortness of breath, nausea, nosebleeds, dyspnea, pain, changes in smell or taste, and arrhythmic heart function.

Understanding how low barometric pressure affects people can help alleviate discomfort and general well-being. Altitude sickness can manifest itself through dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract. A greater amount of oxygen can be transported due to the fact that at altitudes a person has an increased activity of hematopoietic organs. To fully assess how atmospheric pressure affects, other factors must be taken into account: temperature indicators, humidity, radiation fluxes and wind speed, precipitation and others.

Sharp changes in temperature indicators are also not the best way to affect the condition of people. "Cores" are especially sensitive to such changes, as well as those people who have suffered heart attacks or strokes. During these periods, it is necessary to limit physical activity and adhere to a low-salt diet. The air temperature is perceived by the human body in different ways, it depends on the humidity. If it is increased, the heat is less tolerated. Precipitation has a great influence on air humidity. Meteo-dependent people during this period may experience weakness and headaches.

The power of the influence of atmospheric pressure on human blood pressure has been proven for a long time. Even small deviations from the atmospheric norm affect feelings and health. Especially if a person is meteorological and susceptible to a number of diseases: hypertension, arterial hypotension, vascular pathologies.

Atmospheric pressure is the pressure exerted on the earth's surface by the force of air. Normally, this is equal to 760 mm Hg. (with minor adjustments, depending on the region of residence).

The human body has the ability to adapt to weather whims, changes in the environment. However, sometimes these changes are too drastic. At the same time, the effect of atmospheric pressure on the human body can negatively affect the vessels, the circulatory system as a whole. The science of biometeorology studies how atmospheric pressure affects blood pressure (BP), as well as the interdependence of living organisms and weather.

Atmospheric indicators depend on the altitude of the location, the temperature of the air warming up, the time of day, and the season. A sharp change in the state of the atmosphere increases the load on the heart.

The natural concepts of cyclone and anticyclone help to understand the influence of atmospheric pressure on human blood pressure. These are opposite atmospheric vortex regions (disturbances).

Characteristics of air masses

The table shows an inverse relationship. A cyclone that forms when the air rises is accompanied by a decrease in atmospheric pressure. And its increase is caused by an anticyclone, which is formed when heavy air descends.

With the frequent change of cyclones and anticyclones, the body needs time to adapt, medical care for many becomes more in demand. Risk factors include hypertension, vascular and heart disease.

A decrease in atmospheric pressure is characterized by a decrease in the oxygen content in the air masses, and a corresponding increase in the proportion of carbon dioxide. This is accompanied by increased cloudiness, an increase in temperature indicators of the air, precipitation, and special humidity.

Influence

To protect your health during this period, it is important to know how cyclone spread affects people with diagnosed hypotension. They are extremely sensitive to such changes. Initially low arterial readings continue to decline further, and blood circulation slows down.

Symptoms appear:

  • difficulty breathing;
  • weakness, drowsiness;
  • slowing down blood circulation;
  • disturbances in the activity of the heart, blood vessels;
  • flatulence, nausea, dizziness;
  • headache;
  • frequent flashing of "flies".

All this is a consequence of oxygen starvation. The flow of blood to the tissues is delayed. Intracranial current, on the contrary, is able to increase its performance, causing spasms, migraines. In the most difficult cases, there is the likelihood of a hypotonic crisis and coma.

The influence of high atmospheric pressure on a person is carried out during the anticyclone. The weather during this period, as a rule, is characterized by clarity, calmness, no increase in humidity and temperature extremes. This contributes to gas pollution, accumulation of dust, harmful substances in the composition of air masses. Hypertensive patients are especially sensitive to the influence of a cyclone. Atmospheric pressure and hypertension are directly related.

Symptoms:

  • malaise, weakness;
  • decreased immunity and resistance to infections;
  • increased pressure, increased heart rate;
  • tinnitus, headaches;
  • annoying flickering in the eyes, blurred vision;
  • throbbing at the temples, irritability;
  • muscle pain;
  • redness of the face.

Dangers

An anticyclone with a high blood pressure of a person can increase the risk of stroke, hypertensive crisis, heart attack, thromboembolism, coma.

Remember the gradual decrease in blood pressure! A sharp decrease in its performance can provoke a stroke.

There are options for the relationship between atmospheric pressure and arterial pressure:

  1. Direct relationship. Both types of indicators (atmospheric and arterial) increase simultaneously. This dependence is inherent in hypotonic patients.
  2. Partial inverse relationship. Together with a change in atmospheric pressure, only one of the indicators changes in a person - systolic, or upper blood pressure. The lower, diastolic remains at the original level. This happens in practically healthy people.
  3. Feedback. Accordingly, with a decrease in atmospheric pressure, arterial parameters increase, and vice versa. As a rule, hypertensive patients are susceptible to this effect.

The reactions of hypertensive and hypotonic to atmospheric phenomena are different.

How to help yourself with weather dependence?

It is necessary to be interested in weather forecasts, especially in the off-season. Careful consideration should be given to forecasting cyclones and anticyclones. Ambulance workers ascertain the fact that the health of a large mass of people has deteriorated during unstable weather, sudden changes in the atmosphere.

Statistics show how weather anomalies affect the number of calls in such situations. They increase significantly. More than others, persons suffering from hypertension, cardiac pathologies, and vascular diseases are susceptible to this influence.

Actions of hypotensives during a cyclone

Systematic monitoring of your own blood pressure is important. The following tips will help you optimize its performance:

  • take a daily shower of contrasting temperatures;
  • drink more water, other liquids;
  • reduce negative impact cyclone by means of ginseng tincture;
  • drink a small amount of coffee in the morning;
  • responsibly approach the regulation of sleep (at least 8 hours), work and rest.

Hardening procedures will not be superfluous. However, the approach to them should be individual, depending on age, the presence of chronic diseases.

Actions of hypertensive patients during anticyclone

Blood pressure control is also a rule of thumb. Important recommendations:

  • taking a contrast shower;
  • the use of minor physical activity (exercises) for hardening, excluding bends, squats;
  • the use of low-calorie food, vitamins in the menu;

  • avoidance of emotional stress, regular rest, good sleep;
  • drinking large amounts of fluids.

Remember! With diagnosed hypertension, you should avoid sharp ascents, ascents, flights, deep-sea diving.

Elderly people (both hypertensive and hypotensive) are especially susceptible to the influence of climatic conditions on the body. The atmospheric pressure on an elderly person has a strong effect, since most of them have chronic pathologies of blood vessels and cardiac activity.

The weakening of the body as a whole contributes to the occurrence of a hypertensive crisis, accompanied by disorders of the neurovegetative system, as well as serious lesions in the area of the cardiovascular system. In such situations, inpatient treatment is recommended for the elderly.

People with mental disorders, with changes in the atmosphere, show symptoms of anxiety, unfounded fear, obsessive states. Their state of health directly depends on the vagaries of the weather. The use of sedatives, herbal tinctures is recommended.

Remember! In case of severe deterioration in health during a cyclone or anticyclone, one should not self-medicate. You need to seek qualified medical attention.

Both hypertensive and hypotensive patients tend to react to sudden fluctuations in the weather, changes in the atmosphere. The effect of atmospheric pressure on blood pressure cannot always be minimized on one's own. During sharp changes in atmospheric parameters, you need to follow the recommendations of doctors, take prescribed medications, optimally distribute the time of rest and activity, avoid stress and negative emotions. Better to quit bad habits and start listening to your body. This will really help to avoid being heavily dependent on atmospheric pressure.

Normal atmospheric pressure ranges from 750 to 760 mm Hg. Art. It can change by 30 mm per year, and 1-3 mm per day. Many people complain of a deterioration in their health when the weather changes, calling themselves weather-dependent. Also, similar symptoms are found in people with hypertension and hypotension.

The relationship between blood pressure and atmospheric pressure

Blood pressure shows how intensely blood is pushed out of the heart and how vascular resistance occurs. Mainly influenced by changes in anticyclones or cyclones. Symptoms differ depending on whether a person has high or low blood pressure.

Hypotensive patients usually suffer from low atmospheric pressure, this does not affect hypertensive patients so much. But if the high temperature is accompanied by high humidity, the state of health often worsens and the pressure rises. This is the reason why it is harmful for hypertensive patients to exercise during the heat.

When climbing a mountain or diving into water, the effect of atmospheric pressure on blood pressure is noticeable. Climbing to high altitudes often requires an oxygen mask. Symptoms such as breathing abnormalities, nosebleeds, and rapid heartbeat are observed.

People with high blood pressure often faint because of this. During immersion in water, an increase in atmospheric pressure occurs, which can also harm hypertensive patients.

It is necessary to dive to depth through locks, in which the pressure changes slowly. At high atmospheric pressure, gases that are present in the air dissolve in the blood, which is called "saturation". Decompression causes them to exit the bloodstream. The process is called desaturation.

When lowered into the ground or water, in violation of the shedding regime, oversaturation with nitrogen will occur. This can provoke the appearance of decompression sickness. It consists in the penetration of gas bubbles into the vessels, which lead to the appearance of embolism in large quantities.

This problem is expressed in painful sensations in the joints and muscles. In advanced stages, the eardrums burst, dizziness appears, and labyrinthine nystagmus develops. The disease can be fatal.

The cyclone is caused by warm air and water evaporating from the ocean. The weather changes, it becomes warmer, there are rains, high humidity. The amount of oxygen in the air decreases, while the amount of carbon dioxide increases. Cyclone has a bad effect on people with diseases of the heart and blood vessels. It is expressed by a decrease in atmospheric pressure.

The anticyclone is expressed in clear, dry weather without wind. The air stands still, there are no clouds. This can last up to 5 days. If the duration exceeds 14 days, fires often start during the warm season due to abnormal heat and drought. The anticyclone is expressed by the increased atmospheric pressure.

Hypertension and high atmospheric pressure

If the atmospheric pressure exceeds 760 mm Hg. Art. , there is no wind and precipitation - an anticyclone sets in. At this time, there are no sudden temperature jumps, harmful impurities in the air increase.

This weather has a negative impact on patients suffering from high blood pressure. Working capacity decreases, throbbing pains in the head are observed, heart hurts.

You can also trace symptoms such as:

The anticyclone has a particularly bad effect on pensioners suffering from chronic cardiovascular diseases. The risk of a crisis increases, especially when the reading is 220-120 mm Hg. Art. It can also lead to coma, thrombosis, embolism.

Low barometric pressure and hypertension

The cyclone also has Negative influence at elevated pressure. Outside the window, there is high humidity, rains, cloudy weather. Air pressure drops to less than 750 mm Hg.

Often, hypertensive patients take medications, therefore, low atmospheric pressure can cause the following symptoms:

With an anticyclone, hypertensive patients should not go in for sports, pay more attention to rest. It is better to eat low-calorie foods, eat more fruits. If heat is observed during the anticyclone, physical activity should be excluded without fail. You need to make sure that the air conditioner works in the room.

With a cyclone, you need to drink a lot of liquid, herbal decoctions. You need to sleep well, on awakening you can drink or tea. You need to check the pressure indicators on the tonometer several times during the day.

Anticyclone and hypotension

Anticyclone has a negative effect on hypertensive patients, but hypotensive patients sometimes suffer from unpleasant symptoms. This can be explained by the adaptive properties of the organism. If hypotensive people have even a slight increase in blood pressure (even if this figure is the norm for ordinary people), they tolerate it very badly.

Cyclone and hypotension

The cyclone is bad for the health of hypotonic patients. They show symptoms such as:

Complications from the influence of a cyclone are a hypotonic crisis and coma.

To improve health, you need to raise blood pressure indicators. A sound sleep will help with this, when you wake up you can drink a drink with caffeine, take a contrast shower. During the negative effects of the cyclone and anticyclone, you need to drink more water, you can use ginseng tincture. Hardening procedures very well influence hypotensive patients.

Reactions to weather changes

A negative reaction to weather changes manifests itself in three stages:

The duration of symptoms and their intensity depend on weight, age, chronic diseases. Sometimes they can last for a week. Meteopathy affects 70% of patients with chronic diseases and 30% of ordinary people.
