It can be metal or wood, the choice of fasteners depends on this:

  • onto wooden blocks - with clamps and wood screws. The bars on the corners are 100x20 mm, on the walls - 70x20 mm;
  • on the steel subsystem - with clamps and blind rivets.

The lathing is installed vertically, in increments of 60 cm (aligned with the centers of the lathing). For high wind loads, the pitch can be reduced.

Maintain a gap of 2 cm between the cladding and the surface of the walls underneath it over the entire area of the façade.

Perforated profile

Mounting locations:

  • the perimeter of the building along the lower edge of the cladding;
  • the upper plane of window and door openings.

Fastening is carried out through a solid shelf to a vertical sheathing.

Depth (width of the perforated shelf) - 40-100 mm (selected according to the thickness of the insulation).

Installation of vertical lathing

Installation rules CEDRAL click

When installing KEDRAL clicks, they are secured with clamps to each purlin.

It is better to use galvanized or stainless steel fasteners.

Installation Requirements

Arrangement of a ventilation gap of 2 cm between the surface of the wall (insulation) and the cladding.

Installation of lathing in increments of up to 60 cm (measured at the centers of the lathing).

The boards of the first row are inserted into the starting element with the bottom edge, and the horizontalness is controlled using a building level. After leveling, the upper edge is pressed with a clamp to the lathing.

The wooden sheathing is protected with EPDM tape (attached with a construction stapler to the bars under the joints of the fiber cement siding). The tape is not used if the wood is treated with an antiseptic.

The first and last fasteners are installed no further than 6 cm from the edge of the board.

Openings for windows and doors

The ends of the siding on the side of the openings are covered with a connecting profile.

Cedral Click fiber cement boards are a man-made replacement for wood, their surface imitates the pattern of Cedar (hence the name “Cedral”).
Kedral Click planks give the façade of a home the natural warmth of wood without the disadvantages of wood trim - high maintenance costs, fire hazards and limited life cycles.
The main difference from a regular Kedral™ board is that during its manufacture, the ends of the boards are milled to fit the “quarter” profile. Moreover, the board itself is thick - 12 mm.

EPDM tape is fixed at the joints of Kedral Click boards on vertical bars; The tape is necessary for weather protection.

  8. Attaching Cedral Click™ Fiber Cement Siding

It is recommended to use a screwdriver with adjustable force and stainless steel screws with a self-drilling tip and a self-drilling head. For installation of corners and slopes, first consult with a specialist.

Installation of wooden sheathing

The substructure for a suspended ventilated facade using Cedral™ fiber cement siding consists of horizontal and vertical beams.

The horizontal block is attached with nails or screws to the load-bearing wall. The method of fastening depends on the material of the load-bearing wall, and must provide sufficient strength and reliability of fastening. To attach to a brick or concrete wall, the stainless steel screw must have a diameter of at least 7 mm and a nylon dowel. The maximum distance between horizontal bars is 600 mm.

As thermal insulation, mineral wool is installed between the horizontal bars, which is attached to the base using disc-shaped dowels. The thickness of the insulation is selected according to thermal engineering calculations.

The waterproofing film is attached to the vertical bars with a construction stapler, with an overlap of 100 mm.

The thickness of the wooden bars of the horizontal sheathing should be equal to the thickness of the thermal insulation. The bars of the horizontal sheathing should have a width of 60 mm, a minimum thickness of 30 mm. Typically, timber 60x60 mm or 60x80 mm is used. When the thermal insulation is thicker, instead of horizontal bars, galvanized steel brackets are used and vertical wooden bars are attached to them.

The vertical bars are attached to the horizontal bars using two stainless steel screws. The width of the vertical sheathing bars is at least 50 mm. At the junction of two horizontal boards - 70mm. The minimum thickness of the bar is 40 mm. At the joints of fiber cement siding (seams), in external and internal corners, sheathing bars, in order to prevent moisture from entering the sheathing, should be covered with EPDM tape or self-adhesive black tape. The width of the tape should be at least 10 mm wider than the supporting vertical bar.

Each fiber cement board must be attached to at least three vertical pieces. If the board is attached to two bars, the maximum distance should not exceed 400 mm. The quality of wood and its protection from rotting must comply with GOST requirements.

Installation of Kedral Click fiber cement boards on the sheathing

Rice. Clip (clasp) and screw made of stainless steel 304 (A2), for discreet fastening of fiber cement boards.

The Kedral Click™ board is installed using the overlap principle, which allows you to install the boards on the sheathing covertly without visible fasteners. The board is attached to the sheathing using specially designed stainless steel fixing clips and secured to the sheathing with a flat head screw. This type of fastening allows, if necessary, to disassemble the structure.

The end of the Kedral Click™ board should always rest on a support block. If two boards are connected on one support bar, then the clip is installed in the middle of the joint. It is recommended to leave a gap of at least 3 mm between the boards. In order to protect the wooden sheathing from moisture, black EPDM tape is used at the vertical joints.

Rice. Starting strip for installing the first board

In the case of using profiles (external corner, internal, connecting), the clip is attached next to the profile, and the width of the support bar must be such as to ensure full support of the profile and clip on the bar.

Fiber cement boards themselves do not require ventilation. However, it is recommended to leave an air gap of at least 20 mm behind the siding boards to ventilate the wall in order to eliminate the possibility of condensation appearing for one reason or another on the wall of the building. The gap from below is subsequently closed with a special perforated profile to protect against insects and rodents.

Rice. Joining and fastening two fiber cement boards on a support beam

Installation of fiber cement siding begins with the installation of a special initial profile at the bottom. The initial profile is installed level along the perimeter of the walls to be finished and attached to the bars with countersunk screws so that the head does not interfere with the installation of the first board.

The first board is placed on the starting profile and secured with a clip on each support bar, the next board is placed on the bottom board and attached to the base in the same order.

Fastening the last Kedral Click board

To fasten the last board, you can use two fastening options:

In the case of using a whole board, fastening occurs using clips.

If the board has a longitudinal cut, then it is fastened with screws with a colored head.

Processing and cutting of material

Fiber cement facade boards are easy to saw, drill and mill. To cut fiber cement siding, it is recommended to use a circular saw with a carbide blade and diamond-coated or hardened carbide on the teeth. Small pieces can be cut with a hand saw with carbide-tipped teeth. In addition, you can use a high-speed jigsaw with a carbide file for cutting. When using power tools, use a dust extractor.

When processing, the board must be firmly secured to the workbench. The workbench must be stable to avoid vibrations. The board should not experience tension when cutting. Incorrect trimming can cause peeling at the edges of the cut. After trimming, the cut ends must be cleaned from burrs using sandpaper. Dust accumulated after sawing, drilling and processing the board should be removed immediately; for this you can use a dry soft cloth. Uncollected dust can leave permanent stains.

When drilling holes, the board should rest on a wooden table, the drill should have a carbide tip with a sharpening angle of 600. When drilling large diameter holes, it is recommended to use a Metabo brand cutter.

Retouching end and longitudinal sections

Based on the durability of the material, there is no need to tint the ends of the boards. But for aesthetic reasons, it is better to touch up the visible ends with retouching paint. The paint must be selected in accordance with the color of the fiber cement board itself. Before painting, the surface must be dry, free of dirt and dust. Leaks must be removed immediately. Facade boards painted in special colors (Walnut CL100, Cherry CL101, Pear CL102) require mandatory painting of the exposed surfaces of the saw cuts.

Transportation and storage

Boards are delivered on pallets covered with plastic film. Cedral Click™ boards must be stacked and stored horizontally on a flat surface. The boards must have support so as not to sag. To avoid damage to the surface during storage, release paper should always be left between the layers.

Boards should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated place. When stored in an open space, the boards must be constantly covered with film to prevent moisture penetration. If moisture gets in, they must be unpacked and dried separately from each other. Before installation, it is recommended to allow the boards to acclimatize to the temperature conditions in the place where they are installed. The boards must be removed from the pallet at the corners by two workers and moved around the construction site in a vertical position.

Order

CEDRAL is a universal cladding material for interior and exterior work in private and commercial construction. Fiber cement siding of this collection is available in the form of boards. Its surface imitates the structure of natural valuable wood so well that it is visually almost impossible to distinguish it from the original. In addition to aesthetic qualities, the material also has high technical and operational characteristics - environmental friendliness, wear resistance, resistance to the external environment and mechanical damage, durability. In addition, CEDRAL fiber cement siding has a wide range of applications - operation is allowed in the temperature range from -50⁰С to +60⁰С. Installation can be carried out at any time of the year, extending the construction season throughout the year.

Due to the raw material component, CEDRAL fiber cement siding has increased weight compared to polymer or metal. However, the widespread belief that it is difficult to work with and that you will have to hire professionals is a misconception; installation does not require special equipment or qualifications. Any person with a minimum set of tools, strictly following the attached instructions, can handle the installation.

Fiber cement siding CEDRAL is manufactured in Belgium by the ETERNIT company.

There are two types of boards - CEDRAL (Cedral) and CEDRAL Click (Cedral Click). In both cases, the board has a standard length - 3600 mm, but different thickness and width: in the first case - thickness 10 mm, width 190 mm, in the second - thickness 12 mm, width 186 mm. Thanks to the dimensions of the siding, even large areas can be covered in a short time. The Eternit company also supplies a wide selection of additional elements for CEDRAL fiber cement siding, namely: internal and external corner profiles, starting and finishing strips, etc. The color range of additional elements corresponds to the color scheme of the siding.

The difference between CEDRAL (Cedral) and CEDRAL Click (Cedral Click) is not only in thickness and width, but also in the installation methods - CEDARAL is overlapped on a wooden or metal subsystem and attached to self-tapping screws or jagged nails, and CEDARAL Click is installed on a wooden or metal subsystem. metal subsystem on clamps using the tongue-and-groove joining method.

Installation technology for overlapping KEDRAL siding

Both types of siding are used as finishing material in ventilated facade systems, the minimum air gap is 20 mm. Depending on the characteristics of the building, installation of fiber cement siding is divided into several stages.

Preparing the base

Before installing the lathing, you need to take care of the walls, which will have to spend decades under finishing. Stone walls are cleaned of delamination, large surface defects are eliminated, after which they are treated with a special deep penetration primer. Wooden walls are treated with an antiseptic solution and covered with a protective membrane.

Installation of sheathing and insulation

The lathing is made of wooden beams, pre-impregnated with an antiseptic solution, 40 - 70 mm wide, the thickness depends on the type of insulation, but not less than 20 mm. When choosing timber, special attention is paid to the level of humidity - too wet will “lead” when drying, which will negatively affect the entire system. The orientation of the subsystem guides depends on the location of the boards on the facade - horizontal sheathing is assembled under the vertical cladding and vice versa. The sheathing pitch is maximum 600 mm. The type of fastener depends on the type and parameters of the base - these can be dowels, self-tapping screws or screws of a suitable diameter and length, fixed in increments of 800 mm. The width of the timber above the openings is from 40 mm, in the places where the boards join - at least 70 mm.

Thermal insulation material is laid between the sheathing beams; the need for fastening and the specific method depend on its type. Most often these are mineral wool slabs, fixed to special plastic dowels with large caps; some insulation is mounted by surprise without additional fasteners.

Installation of starting profiles and additional elements

To prevent pests (insects, rodents) from getting under the cladding, a perforated ventilation profile is attached along the entire perimeter of the building along with the starting strip along the entire perimeter of the building. Next, a starting profile is attached, which allows you to set the angle of inclination of the first board. After installing the starting and perforated profiles, the corner elements are mounted - external and internal. Next, a rubber tape is attached to the subsystem (made of wooden blocks) at the joints of the siding - EPDM tape; it will protect the wood from moisture and help avoid rotting of the block.

Installation of CEDRAL boards

To fix the fiber cement board to the sheathing, proprietary stainless steel self-tapping screws, which do not require pre-drilling, or rough nails are used. It is more convenient and faster to fix the boards with self-tapping screws, using a screwdriver, and the function of adjusting the rotation power will allow you to control the depth of immersion of the hardware. Assembly starts from the bottom up. The first board is installed on the starting profile, the minimum overlap of the boards is 30 mm. It is imperative to maintain a distance from the edge of the board of at least 20 mm to prevent damage to the siding. If the length of the wall is within 20 meters, then the boards are mounted end-to-end, without gaps. If this value is exceeded, a deformation gap of 3-5 mm is required every 20 meters.

KEDRAL Click siding installation technology

  • Preparing the base.
  • Installation of sheathing and insulation (all parameters are identical, but a metal subsystem can be used instead of a wooden one).
  • Installation of starting profiles and additional elements.

The physical and mechanical properties of CEDRAL click are the same as those of CEDRAL, only the method of attaching the board is different. CEDRAL click boards are mounted end-to-end on specially designed clamps. Assembly begins in the standard way - from the bottom up, the first board is installed on the starting profile, the top is fixed with a clamp on each beam of the sheathing. The bottom of the next board is installed on the clamps from the previous board, and the top is again secured with clamps on the bars. The entire building is clad according to this algorithm. The exception is the finishing board of fiber cement siding with a groove connection: if it is whole, clamps are used; if it had to be cut, it is fixed with self-tapping screws with a mushroom-shaped head, painted in the color of the board.

Subtleties of working with fiber cement siding

CEDRAL boards are perfectly amenable to any type of processing - they can be sawed, drilled or milled. These manipulations do not require special equipment - a circular saw or a grinder with a special disk for cutting stone (made of hard alloys with spraying or soldering) is suitable. Another option is to use a powerful electric jigsaw with the appropriate attachment. When performing work, it is mandatory to use safety glasses and a respirator. To get an even cut and preserve the decorative appearance of the board, you should follow several recommendations.

Fiber-reinforced concrete boards look similar in appearance to lumber. Their length is 3600 mm, width 190 mm and thickness 12 mm. The surface of the cement board repeats the texture of cedar, a tree that was previously used to cover the facades of private houses.

Usable area of one Cedral Classic Click board = 0.6264 sq.m

Weight (factory) Cedral Classic Click = 12.2 kg/piece

Fiber cement siding not only looks like natural wood, but also has many of the properties of wood - it can be easily sawed lengthwise and crosswise, and attached to the wall using nails or screws without pre-drilling holes.

Despite the fact that fiber-reinforced concrete lining is very similar to wood boards, it has a number of advantages. First of all, it does not burn, which is especially important in our conditions, when private houses are located far from fire services and are left practically unattended in winter. Fiber cement siding is not afraid of moisture and does not rot, it is not damaged by bugs, and the warranty on the painted surface is ten years.

Installation of Cedral fiber cement siding

The advantage of any siding is its ease of installation. Since no mortars are used when installing the facade plank, installation can be carried out at any time of the year. Belgian fiber cement siding Cedral has another advantage. It not only imitates the texture of a wooden board, but also has some of the properties of wood. Despite its high strength and durability, it is easy to cut lengthwise and crosswise using a circular saw or jigsaw. Place the board on a strong horizontal support and make the cut in an even motion.

The video on installing fiber cement siding describes in detail the process of cutting the board to the desired size. During the work, dust is generated, which must be immediately removed from the surface of the board so that the cutting edge of the tool does not become dull. If cutting fiber cement siding indoors, use a dust extractor and use respiratory protection.

Installation of fiber cement siding begins from the bottom of the facade, with the installation of the initial plank, which sets the required angle of inclination for all other facade boards. The video on the installation of fiber cement siding clearly shows that the boards are installed with an overlap of 30 mm.

Cedral siding is attached to the wood sheathing using stainless steel self-tapping screws. The use of high-quality self-tapping screws will prevent the future appearance of rusty stains on the surface of the façade board.

When finishing internal and external corners, we recommend using aluminum profiles, which allow you to give the building a finished and laconic look. You can use profiles in the same color as Cedral siding, or opt for contrasting color combinations for greater impact.

The siding installation video will tell you that when attaching a board with a screw, the distance to the horizontal edge of the board, as well as the distance to the vertical edge, should be at least 20 mm. The ends of the fiber cement siding are attached “at the joint” to a wooden sheathing block. It is recommended to leave a gap of at least 1 mm between the boards. Each end of the board must rest on a support. Black EPDM tape is used on vertical joints to protect wooden blocks from moisture.

The fiber cement boards themselves do not need protection from moisture. However, it is recommended to leave an air gap of at least 20 mm behind the siding boards to ventilate the wall in order to eliminate the possibility of condensation appearing for one reason or another on the wall of the building. If you also place insulation between the fiber cement siding and the siding, you will significantly improve the soundproofing and thermal performance of your home.

The main difference between Cedral click and the standard Cedral board is that during its production, the ends of the boards are milled to a “quarter” profile, which allows the siding to be installed “joint to joint” with a hidden fastening system. Moreover, the board itself is thick - 12 mm.

The advantage of the Cedral Click™ fiber cement board is the hidden fastening to the sheathing and the smooth surface of the wall surface.
