To view digital broadcasting in the DVBT2 standard, a modern TV must be equipped with a special built-in tuner that supports the necessary standards, or with additional special equipment that can process such signals - a digital receiver.

The BBK Electronics brand is known for its modern lines of good quality consumer electronics. Bbk can be used comfortably in everyday life and allows you not only to receive a high-quality signal, but also to record your favorite TV programs in memory.

BBK SMP124HDT2

Receiver with chip from Ali

The BBK SMP244HDT2 TV receiver is equipped with a chip from a well-known company to improve signal reception and a comfortable user interface.

The device receives DVB-T and DVB-T2 digital signals via an external or indoor antenna.

To view content in high definition, the tuner is equipped with a built-in media player with the ability to connect through the ports of external storage devices.

All the necessary information about the channel number, time or duration is displayed on the bright screen.

When setting up the device initially, you will not have any difficulties - it is extremely simple. You just need to decide on the type of TV you plan to connect.

For not very new models, for example, with a CRT tube and the like, you should connect using a cord through the component video output. If you have a newer model equipped with an HDMI port, then we will only use the port itself. You may have to buy an additional cord, but considering that the receiver will output images in Full-HD format, it's worth it. The difference in image quality is noticeable even to the naked eye.

All ports and connectors are located on the rear panel of the receiver: antenna output and input, component and composite outputs, coaxial digital audio output and HDMI output. The USB connector is located on the front panel. In addition, on the front side there are receiver control buttons and an information panel. They are completely duplicated on the remote control.

with DVB-T2 support and media player function

“You can find a middle ground.
But she is always required to make an adjustment to the left or right.
At least for a little bit."

Dmitry Kalinin

The transition from analog television broadcasting to digital DVB-T2, adopted as a federal standard in the Russian Federation, influenced not only the computer TV tuner industry. The fleet of TVs either without support for digital terrestrial broadcasting or with support for the first version of DVB-T turned out to be more than impressive, while many models simply did not have time to become obsolete in terms of diagonals and resolutions. A solution was found quite quickly, they became stand-alone TV tuners (in the future we will use the established term “receivers”), connected to TVs, usually via HDMI or a composite interface, less often supporting SCART (optional with RGB), while the retail price of such devices allows us to consider them accessible even in modern conditions of the domestic market.

The company was among the first manufacturers to present such solutions, one of which with the heavy name BBK SMP137HDT2, based on the current chipset, we will consider further in the text.

Contents of delivery

The compact box has a traditional BBK blue and white color scheme, with explanatory inscriptions localized.

In addition to the receiver itself, the kit includes:

  • remote control;
  • 3 RCA - 3 RCA composite cable for analog video and audio connection;
  • user guide.

Design and specifications

The manufacturer claims the following features of the BBK SMP137HDT2:

  • DVB-T/DVB-T2 support;
  • frequency range - 174-230 MHz (VHF), 470-862 MHz (UHF);
  • rated power consumption - 8 W;
  • input signal level - −75 - 20 dB mW;
  • video decoder - MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 HD, H.264;
  • audio decoder - MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (Layer I/II), MP3, AC-3, AAC-LC, HE-AAC;
  • input stream - up to 40 Mbit/s;
  • image format - 4:3/16:9;
  • audio formats - MPEG Layer I&II, 32/44.1/48 kHz;
  • electronic schedule of EPG channels;
  • delayed viewing mode TimeShift;
  • video recording function (PVR);
  • JPEG support;
  • USB 2.0 port for connecting external USB-compatible devices;
  • support for MKV (Matroska) and TS containers;
  • Dolby Digital support.

The device is available in two colors - black and dark gray; the second option was tested. BBK SMP137HDT2 is a compact (device dimensions 174x158x42 mm, weight 370 g) parallelepiped with rounded corners. On the front panel, in addition to the name and several logos, there is a two-color (red in standby mode, green during operation) LED indicator and a USB port.

The rear panel contains an IEC antenna connector, an HDMI connector, and three RCA connectors for composite video and stereo audio.

The receiver has a built-in power supply; the cable cannot be disconnected.

On the bottom you can see ventilation holes and 4 legs, 2 plastic and 2 rubber.

The sticker informs you about the version number 2.0.

Alas, the retail nature of the test sample did not allow us to photograph the printed circuit board, so we will limit ourselves to listing the microcircuits used.

The basis of the BBK SMP137HDT2 is a single-chip system (system-on-a-chip, SoC) ALi M3821, produced in the summer of 2014. According to the manufacturer, the combination of the M3821 with the company's MxL603 RF unit provides a high level of protection against interference caused by 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi and FM signals. This combination is complemented by a DDR3-800 memory module with a capacity of 64 MB.

The receiver was tested with a Samsung LE40B530P7W TV, using an AVerMedia Live Gamer HD card for capture.

Remote control

BBK SMP137HDT2 is equipped with a 43-button remote control labeled RC-SMP712.

The remote control lies quite comfortably in the hand, but the size of many buttons could be increased and the response made more informative.

List of broadcast channels during testing

Digital broadcasting in Samara is carried out at a frequency of 522 MHz with M-PLP (Multiple Physical Layer Pipes) technology, which allows different modulation schemes and different levels of error tolerance for different streams in a multiplexed DVB-T2 signal.

Connection

Connecting devices of this class is extremely simple; in addition to the antenna, in the case of a TV with an HDMI input, an appropriate cable is sufficient, however, due to the absence of one in the package, it is better for the potential user to look for a cable in advance.

Composite video output and analog audio outputs work simultaneously with HDMI, video modes with 24, 25 and 50 frames per second in the settings correspond to the PAL standard, with 30 and 60 frames per second - to the NTSC standard.

Settings

The user interface of the BBK SMP137HDT2 has its own name InErgo.

As it turns out, such a pretentious name hides the usual hierarchical menu of basic settings.

The “Menu Language” subsection of the system settings section contains not only the setting of the same name, but also the teletext setting and the choice of priorities when there are several audio tracks in the stream.

In the image settings there are two subsections: “Video output”, in which the resolution and frequency are selected (1080i_25, 1080i_30, 1080p_50, 1080p_60, 1080p_25, 1080p_30, 1080p_24, “original”, “on TV info”, 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p_50, 720p_60, default is 1080i_25), and “Aspect Ratio” (Auto, 4:3 PanScan, 4:3 Letterbox, 16:9 Normal).

The “Auto” mode failed to determine the aspect ratio under test conditions, and, oddly enough, the 4:3 Letterbox mode showed the best results.

In the digital audio output settings, you can select LPCM or BS Out; the receiver supports bitstream when connected via HDMI, which allows you to use the device as a media player with an external decoder.

BBK SMP137HDT2 does not have an external display to display the time, however, correct installation may be necessary to use the scheduler. The DVB-T2 standard supports time transmission, but the user can select a region, time zone, or manually configure it if the “Set GMT” option is disabled.

Screen settings allow you to adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, and clarity.

Parental controls are supported (you can set the minimum age to 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 years old, the restriction also applies to recorded programs), there is a firmware update option via USB (at the time of testing no updates were found on the manufacturer’s website), information about the firmware our copy is presented below.

The “Other” subsection includes settings for additional antenna power, channel display and automatic switching on of standby mode.

The BBK SMP137HDT2 interface provides ample opportunities for setting up channels.

In addition to automatic search on the OIRT frequency grid (178 - 226 MHz, channels 6 - 12 and 470 - 860 MHz, channels 21 - 69), channel search with range selection and frequency search with manual input and bandwidth selection are available (6, 7 and 8 MHz).

Signal level and quality percentage values are displayed immediately after entering the frequency.

Automatic search allows you to skip encrypted channels if available.

Channels can be sorted by uniquely assigned numbers (LCN) and Service ID in the order they are transmitted in the stream. In addition, sorting can be disabled.

The list of channels can be edited (contextual operations are carried out using colored buttons on the remote control), sorting by name in forward and reverse order, displaying open/encrypted, blocking,

renaming

and moving in the list.

BBK SMP137HDT2 supports Electronic Program Guide (EPG).

The 8-position timer, which can be configured from the EPG window, supports both recording and viewing; during testing, the device was brought out of standby mode and went into standby mode upon completion of the active task without any complaints.

Teletext is processed correctly.

To record programs and use the Timeshift delayed viewing mode, you need a USB drive connected to the USB port. The manufacturer recommends a volume of 4 to 500 GB and the FAT32 file system, but the use of a 750 GB HDD with NTFS during testing did not affect operation in these modes.

The ALIDVRS2 folder is created on the connected drive, for each recorded fragment its own folder is created with the date in the name, recording is carried out in TS format, and two service files with *.dvr extensions are created.

During direct recording (Record button on the remote control), pressing the button again allows you to set the recording time. Ending recording with the stop button requires confirmation, which eliminates accidental interruption; When the delayed viewing mode is active, recording is performed from the moment it is turned on.

Recorded fragments can be renamed, locked with a password, and deleted.

The built-in media player is capable of displaying recorded files, video files, audio files and image files.

Files supported are AVI/*.avi, MKV/*.mkv, MPG/*.mpg, *.ts, *.m2ts, MP3/*.mp3, Vorbis OGG/*.ogg, H.264 MP and HP @L4 video codecs .1, MPEG-1,2,4 SP ASP @L5, audio codecs MP2, MP3 (up to 320 kbps), AC3, ADPCM, AAC, HEAAC, OGG (up to 192 kbps). The maximum resolution and bitrate are 1920×1080 and 20 Mbit/s, respectively. Despite the lack of FLAC support in the official specifications, such files are also played.

Support for Dolby Digital and bitstream increases the functionality of the device as a media player; during testing, the receiver coped with all files within the stated specifications.

Devices of this class do not have absolutely correct support for playback of 24p video materials (23,976 and 24 frames/s), however, the negative effect can be minimized to a comfortable level by selecting the video mode.

Quality

The image quality when working with DVB-T and DVB-T2 is determined by the operator in the range from low resolutions with low bitrates to HDTV. DVB-T2 channels are currently only available in standard definition.

The time from turning on the device until the image appears is about 15 seconds.

The receiver provides good quality reception of digital channels, switching between channels takes about 2 seconds, between channels in different PLPs - about 3 seconds.

conclusions

pros

  • correct work with M-PLP;
  • good reception quality;
  • compactness;
  • TimeShift delayed viewing mode (if there is a connected drive);
  • support for power-saving mode for scheduled tasks;
  • Dolby Digital support.

Minuses

  • lack of display;
  • lack of possibility of end-to-end antenna connection;

  • The remote control is not very convenient.

BBK SMP137HDT2 is a typical representative of modern DVB-T/DVB-T2 receivers and is produced by a fairly well-known brand. The device does not stand out in anything special, but it copes with its functions, has no significant drawbacks, and its availability in retail sales, the manufacturer’s reputation and the availability of authorized services can tip the scales in favor of this model.

Having purchased a BBK receiver, many consumers do not know all its capabilities and features. But this device can become an important assistant in the world of multimedia entertainment. It is enough just to study its functions well.

Receivers BBK description

The popularity of BBK digital television receivers is associated with three simple factors:

  • early entry into the market;
  • affordable price;
  • variety of models.

The fact is that this manufacturer was among the first on the domestic market who was able to offer its products at a time when the entire country began to switch to digital broadcasting without fail.

These receivers are popular

At the same time, the company managed to offer customers products for a wide variety of wallets and taking into account various requirements. In our country there are consoles from VVK with a fairly wide range of characteristics.

But, no matter what model we are talking about, the equipment of the purchased device is always the same. Having picked up the white and blue box and opened it, the client receives:

  • the device itself;
  • composite cable for connection;
  • remote control;
  • manual for use.

Attention! The receiver itself can be either black or dark gray.

On the front panel of the tuner there is a USB port, an operation indicator light and a number of logos. The remaining connectors are on the back. Control panel with 43 buttons. Their location and functionality are quite standard and differ little from those on the remote control of other set-top boxes.

In this video you will learn more about this receiver:

DVB T2 BBK SMP001HDT2

This TV box is one of the most popular tuners in the compact line. Its low price, combined with the presence of all basic functions, turns the device into the main competitor in the domestic market.

DVB T2 BBK SMP240HDT2

This BBK receiver is one of the most popular models from this manufacturer. It boasts support for full high resolution. It also has an antenna output and connectors for AV, HDMi, USB. Like other products, it boasts a timeshift, TV guide and subtitles.

SMP022HDT2

Thanks to the composite input, the BBK SMP022HDT2 model is suitable for any type of TV, including panels. A simple Russified menu makes it possible for all categories of citizens to use the tuner without problems.

SMP015HDT2

This one of the most popular BBK digital receivers is suitable for any type of TV, thanks to the presence of a composite input and the corresponding cable included. A USB drive allows you not only to record programs, but also to view your favorites at any time, without recording.

SMP016HDT2

This receiver is one of the devices that can boast of having everything necessary for comfortable viewing of digital TV. We are talking about all kinds of connectors (AV, HDMi, USB), as well as important functions, such as a scheduler or TV guide.

SMP145HDT2

A special feature of the DVB T2 BBK SMP145HDT2 receiver, which belongs to the mid-price category, is its ability to work as a high-quality media player. In addition, he will not experience any problems working with a picture of any level of clarity.

This receiver belongs to the middle class

SMP021HDT2

This tuner is capable of not only fulfilling its main role of receiving a digital signal, but also serves as an excellent multimedia media player. An important feature of the gadget is its compactness, which does not interfere with its work.

Receiver settings

The main thing in setting up a BBK receiver is knowing the features of the device’s user interface, which is called InEnergo. In a practical sense, this interface is a hierarchical settings menu.

It consists of several sections, the main one of which is called “System Settings”. The latter, in turn, includes the following subsections:

  1. Menu language;
  2. Picture mode;
  3. Digital audio output;
  4. Setting the time;
  5. Screen settings;
  6. Parental control;
  7. Update via USB;
  8. Safe removal of devices;
  9. Other.

Each of them is responsible for its own group of settings, and the location of different menu items is not always logical.

Thus, in the “Language” subsection you can find not only the choice of the actual language for using the device, but also teletext settings, as well as the choice of priorities if there are several audio tracks.

The “Image Mode” subsection allows you to adjust the resolution, frequency and picture format (4:3 PanScan; 4:3 Letterbox, 16:9 Normal). The “Video Output” menu item is responsible for the first, and “Format” is responsible for the last.

The “Digital Audio Output” sub-item allows you to choose between LPCM and BS Out. The latter mode is used primarily when connecting external devices. This allows you to use the set-top box as a media player.

Although there is no external display to show the time, setting it correctly can be very important. Particularly if the consumer is using a scheduler. The corresponding menu items allow you to select not only the region and time zone, but also set the time manually.

Like any receiver, BBK allows you to customize the screen features. Menu items allow you to select the appropriate levels of brightness, saturation, contrast, clarity, as well as the best shades. That is, everything you need to enjoy the image.

Thanks to parental control, not only the age of viewing certain programs is limited, but even their recording. It is worth noting that this opportunity is represented by a fairly wide range of ages from 10 to 18 years. Thanks to this, parents can have a fairly flexible program policy with their children.

As for the last subsection, called “Others,” it is devoted to settings for antenna power, channel display and standby modes. So, here you can choose how many and which channels will be displayed on an ongoing basis.

You can search for channels either automatically or manually

Actually, channel setup occurs through the DVB-T/T2 section, which in turn consists of:

  • channel search;
  • auto search;
  • sorting;
  • list;
  • list of radio channels;
  • removal.

You can search for channels either manually or automatically. There is an option to select the frequency. In addition, channels are distributed into lists and sorted in other ways. In addition to working with channels, digital radio is also configured. Among other functions, the ability to rename is provided. There is also an electronic program guide.

Important! To record programs or view scheduled programs, you will need a USB drive.

Conclusion

Receivers from BBK have long been found in every third or fourth home in Russia. This prevalence is due to its versatility and low price. Few competitors can offer similar characteristics at a price of about a thousand rubles.

My opinion is that this device performs its main function very well, which cannot be said about the additional function - the media player, which is most likely present here formally.
In general, it fully justifies its price.
Perfect for viewing on a CRT TV (country house version)!

Advantages:

Very reliable premium television channels (within the city limits it catches from a copper wire)
Simple intuitive menu
MKV, AC-3
Very compact and lightweight
Heating of the case within reasonable limits (warm)
Doesn't emit any unpleasant odors
Separate power adapter

Flaws:

But not everything is so good with the media player. The picture quality when playing video files is approximately the same as the VideoCD format, sometimes with noticeable jerks. Playing files with an audio track in the AC-3 is almost always accompanied by clicking and clicking, which greatly interferes with comfortable viewing. When rewinding, it may freeze so much that you have to reboot by pulling the plug from the network (it stops responding to the remote control). Most likely, all these shortcomings are a feature of this gadget.
Very flimsy LF connectors, when connecting tulips I was afraid to press them in or break them off

    This is my first VVC unit, but I bought it without fear, it seems like a well-known brand. It’s made perfectly, the plastic doesn’t stink (this indicator says a lot). Channels - 30 pcs. I found it right away on a 14cm wire (fortunately Ostankino is in line of sight at km 30.) I read it from a flash drive without any problems. What else do you need? -I'm satisfied, I can recommend it. I also recommend turning off the collective antenna - there’s no point in feeding the monopolists! pay monthly.

    Advantages:

    new, cute, small, supports Dolby Digital (AC-3), and it works!

    Flaws:

    nitpicking - insufficient response to the remote control (needs to be directed into the box), and it gets hot (I don’t think it’s critical, but it makes me think....)

    Good for the money. Everything you need is there. I recommend it as a budget device that does everything it needs

    Advantages:

    Switching channels for 2 seconds catches 29 channels. Temperature 37 no more. He reads everything. Cheap, everything is there, AC3 and 1080p sound. It records the broadcast well and on a timer. Formats and deletes records itself. Doesn't make noise. It’s better not to touch the picture settings. Chipset New Ali 21. Everything is clear. Unlike many, the power cable is attached to the box and not soldered. Reception level is excellent

    Flaws:

    I thought it would catch more channels. Plastic, but does not smell. Keep the remote on target, but not critical.

It doesn’t catch on copper wire, you need a digital antenna. in the center of Yaroslavl shows 20 channels with a reception level of 100%. The player reads all movies, without jerks or glitches! I recommend buying it, it's worth the money!

    With this device, get an HDMI cable straight away. Don't be fooled into buying a "digital antenna type". In Moscow, from Yu. Butov, I caught all Moscow’s 30 channels with an ordinary mustache, although if your windows are on the wrong side, you’ll probably have to come up with something. The picture quality is excellent. I did not test the media player, because... it is not needed; the player on modern TVs is much more functional.
    Tomorrow I will test it at the dacha, I think it’s OK too.

    Advantages:

    Performs the declared functions. What else do you need for an old flat-screen TV? The media player should be more expensive. There appears to be zero built-in memory in this one.

    Advantages:

    Shows 20 digital channels in quality no worse than modern Samsung. On the advice of previous comrades, I screwed a wire onto the end of the TV cable. I connected a hard drive with home photo and video to the USB input. Slowly, but I read everything. Including MKV with AC3.

    Flaws:

    The remote control is rather poor.

    Period of use:

    less than a month

    Turned it on, reflashed it, configured it - everything shows. I supply power to the antenna (regular horns with a grille) from the receiver and thus leave one socket free. The remote control, as for me, is quite normal. I did not detect any foreign odors.

    Advantages:

    Miniature
    Shows channels, records, functions as a media player
    Easy to set up
    Works with Dolby Digital and FLAC
    It even reads videos shot on an iPad (h264 1080p 20mbps)

    Flaws:

    It's a bit confusing with fat files in MPEG2
    Doesn't always immediately recognize the connected media
    Some sellers have inflated prices

    I bought it to watch movies from a flash drive, but see the disadvantages. As a receiver - ok.

    Flaws:

    When watching a video from a flash drive there is a clicking sound

    This is my 3rd device from this company and all of them have had blunders, design errors and just blatant stupidity.
    I wonder who tests their products? Or is it not there at all? They produce a lot of devices - and they do everything so poorly!

    Advantages:

    Cheap, loses AC3

    Flaws:

    Power supply 1.2A. This is only enough for the device itself. When connecting a 2.5" drive without external power or with a long cable, it may not work.
    The bullet is the same as other BBK models with the same disadvantages - due to the dark glass in the remote control and receiver, the sensitivity is low and you have to carefully “aim” and reduce the distance to the device. It can be treated by disassembling the remote control and removing the decorative black glass from the front surface. It is 10-12 km to Ostankino, but the windows face in the opposite direction. I gave my parents a gift of an active denn antenna and a supra receiver. I checked at home, the antenna was acting up, 2 packets were poorly received, it was croaking. They have average fishing from Shchelkovo. I took the risk of trying BBK, I took it as a media player, I was lucky it caught level 100, quality 100. Conclusion: you have to guess with the antenna. 0
