Saint Luke of Crimea
In surgeons' offices you can often see the icon of St. Luke of Voino-Yasenetsky. This saint was glorified by the Church in 1996.
In his earthly life he was a famous surgeon, healed many sick people, and wrote works on surgery that are still used in medical practice today. IN mature age Luke became a bishop without leaving his medical practice. God glorified the Saint for his confession of faith in hard times revolution and civil war.

The Orthodox Church knows cases of St. Barbara helping in critical cases during surgical operations.
The holy martyr is depicted on icons with the Communion Cup. This is no coincidence: Christians are afraid to die suddenly, without confessing and without receiving Holy Communion.

Prayer help from Guardian Angels
An 80-year-old woman was admitted to the Krasnodar regional hospital with a diagnosis of volvulus. The only salvation was abdominal surgery, which the patient could not endure, she had a bad heart. Many people fear general anesthesia as a temporary death. In this case, you can remember the saints in whose lives there were similar states and pray to them.
- Seven Youths of Ephesus. Christian youths, hiding from pagan persecution in the 3rd century, by the will of God, fell asleep in a cave and woke up 150 years later, when their country was already ruled by a Christian king.
- Holy righteous Lazarus, one of the followers of Christ. Stricken by illness, Lazarus died in his home and was buried. After 4 days, Christ resurrected him, and all the gathered residents of Bethany witnessed the miracle.
- The Lord Jesus Christ Himself remained in a state of death for 3 days, until His Resurrection.
Prayers on the day of surgery
Before the start of the operation, petitions from “Prayers for future sleep” are appropriate, because anesthesia is the same dream with an unknown outcome.
You can mentally read “Prayer before surgery.” Until the anesthesia takes effect, they silently say short prayers: “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner,” “Most Holy Theotokos, save me.”
Master Almighty, Holy King, punish and do not kill, strengthen those who fall, and raise up those who have been cast down, correct the afflictions of human beings, we pray to You, our God, visit Your weak servant (name) with Your mercy, forgive him (her) every sin, voluntary and involuntary. Prayers of loved ones
“Where two or three are gathered in My Name, there I am in the midst of them,” says Christ in the Gospel. This means that when a loved one is in the hospital, relatives and friends should add their voice to his prayer, then it will be more likely to be heard by God.
During the operation, prayer is said for the patient in church. The priest will not refuse a request to serve a special prayer service “Before a surgical operation,” which is located in the Serbian Breviary. It consists of the usual sequence “On the Sick” and a special prayer.
Not every church can have a Serbian Breviary. This will be an occasion to donate a book to the temple or make other efforts to organize a prayer service, which is also accepted by God.
There is a custom to order magpies in forty churches. This is done whenever possible.
Placed candles and Sorokousts have power only if they are accompanied by the prayer of the sick person and his loved ones.
Prayers after surgery
The worst is over and the person wakes up in intensive care, surrounded by caring nurses. As soon as consciousness clears up, the first prayer after the operation is said: “Glory to Thee, God!”, “Virgin Mother of God, rejoice!” Then you need to remember all the saints whose prayers were asked the day before and thank them.
Upon returning to the ward, a prayer after surgery or recovery, compiled by St. John of Kronstadt, is appropriate.

They pray for a speedy recovery at the “Three-Handed” icon of the Mother of God, remembering the miracle that happened to St. John of Damascus (7th century).
During persecution from heretics, John suffered a terrible punishment: his hand was cut off for composing church hymns. Having applied the severed hand to the wound, the saint prayed until the morning before the icon of the Mother of God and the next morning he found his hand completely healthy.

It is the duty of a believer to bring gratitude to God for a successful operation. The way to perform it is chosen to your liking:

- There is a custom of handing out treats with a request to pray for the health of the servant of God (name).
- A strong and beloved prayer by many Christians is the Akathist of Thanksgiving “Glory to God for everything.”

"God is a Physician human souls and bodies,” wrote St. Basil the Great, “and He prescribes for us a treatment as strong as the severity of the disease. Therefore, let us thank Him even when the healing seems too cruel to us.”
If you or your loved ones have suffered a serious illness that requires surgical intervention, the first thing to remember is that everything is God’s will. As the Gospel of Luke says (12:7): “But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” Therefore, everyone who has had this difficult lot should pray to God before the upcoming operation, as well as to the saints, the Mother of God and the Guardian Angel, asking them for help in healing or alleviating physical and mental suffering.
It would not be correct to ask the question: “which icon to pray to before surgery?”, as sick people often do. It is important to understand that in addition to the doctors themselves, it is the Lord God who helps us in the operation, and not the saints, therefore we pray first of all to Him, and His saints, we ask only to intercede for us in our sorrow before God Almighty. In this case, the icon only helps to properly tune in to prayer, but in itself does not provide any help at all.
Why do we get sick?
No matter who we pray to before surgery, we need to know that the Lord is with us all the time and cares for us, bestowing physical ailments only for our spiritual recovery and renewal. After all, many of us often begin to think about God, His plan, about what awaits each of us after death, only if troubles or illnesses happen to us or our loved ones, and prayers during serious illnesses are the most diligent and reverent .
Therefore, regardless of who you began to pray to before the operation for yourself, for the child, for your loved ones, thank God for any test sent down to us and treat it as His help on the path to our salvation.
On the eve of the operation
On the eve of the operation, it is worth praying not only for the patient, but also for the doctors who will participate in it. You should also pray immediately before the operation itself, you can short prayer: "Lord have mercy!".
Sometimes doctors ask you to remove the cross before surgery. As a rule, such a request is associated with the risk of having to resuscitate the person during surgery, and in this case the cross on a metal chain usually cannot be removed without loss of time. In this case, you can hang it on a regular rope or thread and not on your chest, but, for example, on your hand.
If you have the opportunity, before the operation, in addition to prayerful appeals to God and the saints, confess and partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, and also order a magpie for health from the Church and ask the priest or loved ones to pray for you during the operation itself.
Who should I pray to?
A fairly common question from sick believers: Who should I pray before this or that operation - on the eyes, on the legs, on the heart “on the female” side, etc.? Which saints are best to pray to before surgery for a child, loved one, friend, etc.? Most often in all these cases they pray to God in front of his image “Lord Almighty”, Saint Luke of Crimea and Saint Panteleimon.
The image of the “Lord Pantocrator” is also called the “Pantocrator” or “Savior Pantocrator”. As a rule, it is the central image of any iconostasis and it is to it that one should first turn to in any troubles and misfortunes, including before an operation. In this icon, Jesus Christ appears before us as our main helper, comforter and healer. There is no disease from which Jesus Christ could not save us.
The Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon is considered one of the quickest helpers in any illness, even the most severe. He is revered as the patron saint not only of the sick, but also of doctors. He lived a difficult life earthly life and became famous for treating the sick despite persecution and danger, and in the end was completely executed for his medical assistance.
They pray to Saint Panteleimon, asking for his intercession before God for any illnesses and bodily ailments, including before the most difficult operations. Through prayers to this saint, believers often receive, if not healing, then noticeable relief from their suffering.
During his lifetime, Saint Luke (1877-1961) was not only a great surgeon, but also an archpastor. And he became famous for the fact that he put not only science, but also the Christian faith to help people cure them from serious illnesses. Saint Luke also became famous as a great miracle worker even after his death. Through prayers to him, many believers received many healings and returns to life literally from their deathbeds.

Our icon painters belong to the Vladimir school of Orthodox icon painting, which at all times, starting from Ancient Rus' to this day, it was considered the largest, oldest and most revered in our country. - Choose the image you need;
- Contact us by phone, e-mail or by submitting an online application:
- We will call you back and agree on the desired plot and signature;
- From 2 weeks to 3 months (depending on the complexity of the plot and execution technique), the icon painter will work on the image;
- Upon completion of the work, the image will be consecrated in the temple (in the Vladimir region), and you will be able to take part in this bright event;
- After this, you can pick up the finished icon in person, or we will deliver it to you by mail anywhere in Russia or the world.
