The name of Yuri Shatunov is known to everyone in our country. The group "Tender May", whose soloist he was, simply thundered at all stages of the USSR in the late 80s. Rarely anyone has ever achieved such popularity as this group had, it was simply stunning. There were periods when the musicians gave up to 8 (!) concerts a day and up to 40 concerts a week.
Yura Shatunov was born on September 6, 1973 in Bashkiria in the city of Kumertau. His parents were young and married when his mother was 18 and his father 23. The father was not too interested in the baby, and the first years of his life Yura was raised by his mother's grandparents.
Parents did not live together for a long time, their marriage broke up three years later. The mother remarried, but the new husband had problems with alcohol, little Yura disliked him and kept running away, as a rule, to his grandparents.
At the age of 7, Yura, like all children, went to school. And four years later, a tragedy happened - his mother died of heart failure. Two months before, she transferred Yura to a boarding school, as she learned about the exacerbation of the disease. Since the son was not needed by the father, the mother's sister took custody of him. But Yura, who had a wayward character, decided to run away and wandered until the autumn of next year in the Orenburg region and in Bashkiria.
In November, a commission met in Orenburg, which decided the fate of the boy. The director of an orphanage in the suburbs of Orenburg felt compassion for the boy and took him to her orphanage. There he became seriously interested in hockey and was a left winger.

In October 1991, Yuri Shatunov left the group, deciding to pursue a solo career. After his departure, the group disbanded.

The group "Tender May" was born, it can be said only when Andrei Razin began to deal with it. In 1988, Razin heard the song "White Roses" on the train, he liked Shatunov's voice so much that he wanted to find him. And of course, he did not fail to do so. A few days later, Razin arrived in Orenburg, but Shatunov was not in the boarding school - he was on the run, so Kuznetsov and Pakhomov went to Moscow. Kuznetsov brought Shatunov to Moscow only in September, where a new “Tender May” began its existence in the all-Union association SPM “Record”. The group gained such momentum that it was truly amazing for the Soviet Union, the popularity of the group was simply stunning. Millions of fans across the country, money and fame, all this turned the head of the still very young members of the group.
However, the biggest winner was, of course, Razin himself, because it was he who received the lion's share of all the money collected throughout the country, and not his wards, who did not need much. The group existed, in fact, not at all for a long time, only four years from 1988 to 1992, and after Yuri Shatunov left the group, it almost immediately ceased to exist.
With the departure from Tender May, Yura Shatunov took up a solo career, and Arkady Kudryashov becomes his producer. In 1992, Shatunov's solo album was recorded with the symbolic title "So May is Over", but then the album was renamed "You Know". But this album was released to the general public only in 1993. Nevertheless, Shatunov remains at the peak of his fame, and back in 1992 he receives an invitation from Alla herself, and participates in her famous Christmas meetings. At the concert, he performs the composition "Starry Night".
In 1994, one of the most famous recording companies, PolyGram Russia, offered Yuri Shatunov to conclude a contract, of course, that he agreed to such mutually beneficial cooperation and signed a contract with the head of the company, Boris Zosimov. From now on, Yura Shatunov begins hard work, he shoots a video for the song "Starry Night". Shatunov's new hit "And falling on his knees" is immediately released, and a video for this song will soon appear. Already in 1994, another album by Shatunov, “Do You Remember,” was released, where more than half of the songs were written by the composer and poet of “Tender May” Sergey Kuznetsov. In 1996, Shatunov released another album, including remixes of his already well-known songs, called "Artificial Respiration". In 1999, Yura Shatunov recorded several more absolutely new songs, which are still unknown to the singer's fans, the songs were recorded as demo versions. The thing is that these works were released only on a pirated disc entitled "Tender May 2000. You haven't heard it yet!". The songwriter is Kostya Gubin. According to Shatunov himself, this musical material was stolen at a time when he was selecting new arrangers for himself to work in a team. Also, the "pirated" album included several remixes of the hits of "Tender May".

Left without parental care, little Yura lived for some time in the house of his own aunt, but life did not work out there either. So already at the age of eleven, our today's hero ended up in the Akbulak orphanage, and then in the Orenburg boarding school No. 2.
There, in the Urals, the future leader of the Laskovy May group met the head of the music circle, Sergei Kuznetsov. It was he who first saw creative talent in a young guy. Some time later, they recorded their first musical compositions together and performed at a local recreation center. Some time later, other members joined the group - Sergey Serkov and Vyacheslav Ponomarev. Thus, the first composition of the Laskovy May group was created, which subsequently underwent changes several times.
At that time, the group was not yet popular, but already had several real hits in its repertoire, including the legendary White Roses. It was this song that once attracted the attention of the then Minister of Culture of the USSR and the manager of the Record studio Andrei Razin.
In 1988, he set out to find the guy who performed this song, but the search turned out to be much longer than he thought at first. The thing is that Yuri Shatunov was on the run at that time and was outside the walls of his boarding school. Only a few months later, Andrei Razin, with the active support of Sergei Kuznetsov, managed to find a young singer. Shatunov arrived in Moscow and already there he joined the new composition of the Laskovy May group, which at that time had already been created at the Record studio.

Thus, in 1988, the group began active touring. Concerts of the group were held in all major cities of the former USSR. The hits of "Tender May" were played one by one by all the leading radio stations of the Soviet Union, and then by the CIS.
The phenomenon of the group's popularity is still being actively discussed among the recognized masters of Russian show business. Someone explains it with the talent of Shatunov, someone says that the skillful leadership of Andrei Razin played a central role in the success.
