It's no secret that jeans are not only comfortable, convenient and practical clothing for all ages, but also an indicator of individual taste and a modern person. With the development of the fashion industry, the popularity and demand for denim products is growing. Jeans have gone through enough to gain the status of truly popular, “not boring” original clothing, so today there are a lot of different styles and models of this product.

In this article I will try to present a step-by-step and most accessible overview of the various ones, as well as their relationship with the characteristics of the owner’s figure.

If you look at the dictionary, then the word style (translated from French facon) means the cut of something; a model, a sample according to which something is sewn, in other words, the external shape, model of any product.

Despite the fact that everyone offers their own marking system, there is a generally accepted classification to indicate the cut of a particular model.

Let's start with the simplest and, in my opinion, universal.

JEANS STYLES

– a classic model that suits everyone. The main component is straight legs of a standard cut and, most often, the absence of decorative elements. However, there may be exceptions to this.

looser fit jeans. The main features are comfort and practicality, however, here the name speaks for itself. The advantage of such models is that they advantageously hide rounded hips and buttocks.

– this cut of jeans is characterized by widening of the lower part of the legs, starting from the knee, and various variations of fit at the waist (low, medium, high). If again “to find fault with words” (from English. boot- shoe, cut- cut), it is easy to find out that these trousers are not intended to be tucked into shoes, since they cover them by about two fingers. These jeans are designed for owners of curvy hips, as by widening them towards the bottom, a proportional appearance of the figure is created. And if you have accidentally gained extra pounds and want to hide a small tummy, then tailored jeans will come to the rescue bootcut with a high waist, which will tighten and visually hide everything unnecessary.

– literally from English – “straight leg”. These jeans, in my opinion, are also one of the most universal, because their cut is completely straight along the entire length of the product. This model looks good on both thin people and women, but if you have narrow hips, then jeans made of a more elastic material will fit better on this figure.

Trouser & Wide Leg- absolutely feminine style. Wide jeans that start to widen almost from the hip. More recently, this model was not so popular; many brands focused on tight skinny pants. But already in the summer collection of women's clothing for the 2013 season, designer Stella McCartney presented a decent number of trousers of the style trouser & wideleg, declaring that the classics never get old.

– this style is the complete opposite of the previous model. Slims in their cut are narrow and figure-fitting trousers. An alternative name among the common people is “pipes.” This version of jeans is suitable for short, petite people, giving elegance and volume to the figure. A very fashionable and modern model, suitable for both women and the stronger half of humanity.

– probably the most popular model among young people today. It completely hugs the figure, as if “clinging” to every curve of the leg. It differs from “slims” in that, fitting the lower leg, it does not create folds. For this style, having a good and slender figure is simply necessary!

- typical pants for rappers. Baggy style jeans are distinguished by their very wide legs, low rise (not even on the hips:) and their baggy appearance. You can be sure that such a model will certainly hide all the flaws (and advantages) of the figure, so there are no contraindications!

Saggyjeans jeans of this style are a little similar to the previous “baggies”. Likewise, there is a low rise and a low codpiece. It’s just that in most options there are models that are narrowed to the bottom. These jeans do not restrict movement, which makes them very comfortable to wear and in demand among people leading an active lifestyle.

- a typical female model. However, this is clear from its name (translated from English as “my boyfriend’s jeans”). But this doesn’t mean at all that you need to take all the jeans from your boyfriend’s wardrobe and put them on yourself, although this is also an option! Trousers of this style are characterized by a low rise, wide legs, the edges of which are pumped up at the bottom if they are too long. That is, in such jeans there is complete freedom of action and movement, so they are very similar to the previous baggy and saggy jeans models.

OK it's all over Now. I hope my denim excursion has helped you a little to learn the basic cutting styles of this indispensable product in our lives. Look for your ideal style, which will definitely make you a unique personality, emphasizing your advantages.

Everyone has them and no one can do without them: jeans. Due to the wide variety of jeans models, it is not so easy to find the right cut. What distinguishes slim fit jeans from skinny jeans or pipe jeans and what body type they suit, you will find out here.

What does slim fit mean?

Slim Fit comes from English and means a fitted cut. The slim fit shape thus refers to narrowly cut or tight-fitting jeans. Since the legs of jeans look like cigarettes, they are often also called cigarette pants. They fall under the category of skinny jeans.

Slim fit, pipes or skinny - what's the difference?

Slim fit jeans fit very tightly to the body at the waist and hips, and sit more loosely on the calves and ankles. To ensure that the trousers fit perfectly on the hips, slim fit jeans contain a certain amount of stretch.

Skinny jeans, thin/skinny jeans, fit the body like a second skin. This means that they are also very narrowly tailored in the calves and ankles. For a perfect fit, skinny jeans are infused with elastane to tailor the pants to your individual body shape. They also belong to skinny jeans.

Tapered or tapered jeans, on the contrary, are a newer model that fit more loosely at the waist and hips, and taper conically towards the calves and ankles. The cut is very similar to carrot trousers (carrot trousers), but differs from them in a lower rise. While carrot pants are "high-waisted" pants, meaning they end at the waist, pipe jeans are cut low-waisted and sit at the hips.

Slim fit style for women

The pioneer of slim fit jeans was the Swedish fashion brand Cheap Monday, founded in 2004. That same year, Kate Moss wore a slim fit model from the label and created an incredible demand for skinny jeans. The reason for this, in addition to appearance, is also the fact that such trousers have wide combination possibilities. Fundamentally, they were designed for the Kate Moss type: slender women with long legs, since their shape is visually elongating. This type of woman has some opportunities to focus on trousers. Kate Moss created a stunning look by pairing white slim fit jeans with black boots, a gray pullover and a statement coat with leopard print. Whether it's a crop top or an oversized top, a pullover or a top in a short or long version: they look simply great in combination with slim fit jeans. This type of woman like Kate Moss has no restrictions when choosing shoes. Boots, flats or sneakers are great partners for this jean cut.

The situation is different with ladies with curvaceous figures who do not have so long legs. The first point of the style guide sounds like this: high-waisted slim-fit trousers optically lengthen your legs and make your hips slimmer. A short top can be perfectly combined with high-waisted trousers. It looks especially casual when part of the top is tucked into trousers. However, you should abandon crop tops, since due to the exposed middle there is a kind of violation that visually changes the proportions. Low-waisted jeans go well with longer clothing, especially with a delicate belt at the waist. Due to the fact that the waist is emphasized, you appear optically slimmer. It is very important that the top of your clothing reaches mid-thigh, this way problem areas will be hidden. Sneakers, ballet flats or high heels will be the right solution.

Slim fit look for men

The Swedish trend of slim fit jeans has also quickly won the hearts of German men. Pants are simply made for slender men. They still shouldn’t be too thin, since the shape of the jeans quickly makes its owner slim. Also, for trained men's legs, slim fit jeans will be a great companion. Just like ladies, men can create different looks with slim fit jeans. With a pullover or sweatshirt you will create a relaxed casual style. A combination with a polo shirt and leather boots will look more stylish. Pair with a blazer or cardigan for an upcoming date or birthday. For people involved in creative activities or fashion, slim fit jeans with an elegant shirt and leather shoes are suitable even for the office.

The term "fit" when applied to jeans means "silhouette".

Jeans are characterized according to three main concepts: fit, silhouette, cut of the trouser leg below the knee. To determine the style, the important thing is the silhouette - “fit”.

Most often, when designing new models, one of seven basic styles is used. Each of them has its own characteristics and originality.

Regular (Classic) fit - classic model

Experts call the classic model of trousers Regular or Classic. These are straight-cut trousers, they are quite loose in the hips, which allows you to feel comfortable in them. But Regular jeans are not cut too loose, so they never look baggy. The universal fit has made the Regular a universal jean for everyone.

Reference! Regular is suitable for people of any body type (slim, plump, thin), of any height and age.

Relaxed fit - loose fit model

The Relaxed model looks relaxed and even a little careless on the figure. This look is achieved thanks to the loose cut, especially in the hip area. Reiaxed jeans provide everyone with a feeling of comfort and freedom.

Reference! Relaxed fit can be confidently included in your wardrobe by people of different sizes. They will especially appeal to athletic and muscular young men.

Loose (Baggy) fit - a model with an overly loose fit

Pants that are too loose from the outside look baggy. A very wide cut makes them loose everywhere: at the waist (where there is a significant margin), on the hips, along the entire length of the trouser leg. But their owners value something else: extreme comfort.

Reference! Loose - trousers mainly for young people who are passionate about the street subculture.

Slim fit - tight-fitting model

Jeans that are one of the most popular today are slim jeans. This is what they call narrow or tapered trousers. They fit the figure well and highlight all the curves of the legs. The main thing that is valued in Slim is an exact fit to the figure.

Reference! Slim can be afforded by slender boys and girls of tall or medium height.

Boyfriend fit - “male” model for girls

Women's jeans, which are very similar to men's trousers, are also fashionable. On female figures they look loose, even baggy, but only to a small extent. Another difference between the model, which should look like a man’s one, is the absence of decorative elements. The only things allowed are abrasions and torn parts.

Reference! Boyfriend - jeans for tall and thin girls. They fit well on plump, tall ladies.

Skinny fit - “second skin”

It is no coincidence that skinny is called a second skin. They are even narrower than just tapered trousers. Skinny is made of cotton with the addition of synthetics. This denim fabric stretches well. It fits the figure so tightly from the waist to the ankles that it accurately follows all the curves of the body.

Reference! Skinny will be an adornment for slender girls and boys whose figure has no flaws. Skinny is not recommended for excessively thin models: in tight jeans, their thinness will create a sickly appearance.

Jeggings fit - jeans and leggings at the same time

Pants, called jeggings, are practically leggings made of denim. To sew them, only thin denim is used, which contains a lot of synthetic fibers. This allows you to wear them comfortably, even if you notice that you have gained a little weight. The elastic fabric stretches, and the jeggings remain in place.

Reference! Jeggins are clothing for young girls whose advantages include an ideal figure and slender legs. Jeggings will highlight these advantages.

Additional silhouettes of women's and men's jeans, their features

In addition to the seven main styles, there are many more varieties. Here are a few of the most popular silhouettes.

Straight fit - straight cut model

Straight are pants that have the same width along the entire length of the leg. It is impossible to unambiguously characterize such pants as narrow or wide. They can be narrow or wide, but the main thing is a constant diameter at the knee level and at the lower section of the trouser leg.

Bootcut fit - flared model

Flared jeans become the most popular from time to time. The name of the Bootcut silhouette means that the diameter of the trouser leg along its lower cut will exceed the width at the knee. Flared jeans have different widths at the bottom of the knee, the specific sizes depend on the model.

Flare fit - a variation of Bootcut

Flare are also flared jeans. But unlike Bootcut, the width of the trouser leg begins to change not from the knee, but much higher - from the hip.

Carrot fit - a model combining a narrow bottom and a loose top

Carrot is also called trousers, the legs of which resemble the letter V. This is no coincidence: their top is very wide, as in Loose models, and the bottom is narrow and tight, which is typical for Skinny.

Mom fit - model “in mom’s style”

Many young women like loose jeans. Mom is one of the varieties of such trousers. According to the designers, they should give the impression of being somewhat large, even baggy. They do not hug the figure, but, on the contrary, hide it, only hinting at its slimness and grace.

Antifit - extra wide jeans

Antifit is a model that young people like. These are very wide jeans. They seem to be several sizes too big for their figure, which is why they buy them oversize. This makes the antiphytes look lowered and falling.

Tips for choosing and using different jeans silhouettes

The variety of silhouettes allows you to use jeans in any situation. There is only one condition: the choice of style must be appropriate and appropriate to the situation. The correct combination of jeans with other clothes or shoes is of no small importance.

Tips for choosing clothing for basic jeans silhouettes

Regular fit. Anything goes with these versatile jeans! Classic and sports shoes, long or short jackets, jackets, T-shirts. They do not have Classic and seasonal restrictions. They are comfortable both in the summer with a light T-shirt and in the cold season with a bulky sweater or a warm parka.

Reaxed fit. The style, which is called relaxed, is intended to be used during leisure and active recreation. They are ideally matched with low-heeled shoes, loose clothing, that is, everything that does not constrain, but gives additional relaxation.

Loose fit. Since overly wide Loose cannot be called graceful, they require a similar combination. The most suitable thing is everything that we classify as street style. Large, even rough shoes, a spacious top (T-shirt, sports jacket, sweatshirt).

Slim fit. Stylists advise combining skinny slim jeans with the same tight top. Jackets, shirts and blouses of a fitted cut, narrow T-shirts will be the most appropriate top. For shoes, it is better to choose classic high-heeled shoes, moccasins, and light sports shoes.

Those who have chosen suitable boyfriends for themselves need to take care of the appropriate top for them. It is best to opt for a tight-fitting top (T-shirts, turtlenecks); short blouses or tops are also suitable. Boyfriends are also considered ideal for combining with clothes made in a nautical style.

Skinny jeans will create a sleek look with the right top. In summer it can be a loose T-shirt, tunic, top or blouse, in cool weather - shirts, turtlenecks, jackets, cardigans. When it comes to shoes, skinnies are versatile. They can be worn with both classic and sports shoes.

Jeggins fit. For jeggings, it would be correct to choose fitted blouses or shirts, short tops, jackets, and leather jackets. Jeggings provide great flexibility in choosing footwear. Depending on the situation, these could be high-heeled shoes or sandals, moccasins or ballet shoes, as well as sports shoes.

Knowing the basic styles of jeans will allow you to make the right choice and choose the trousers that will help you look the best.

Shopping online in foreign stores certainly provides a person with a huge choice. However, such diversity can often puzzle even sophisticated buyers. When choosing a product such as jeans “remotely”, a person will inevitably encounter an abundance of specific terms and designations. "Boot cut", "tapered leg", "relaxed fit" and much more. Sometimes dealing with this can be quite difficult. In addition, a person, wanting to buy, for example, classic straight-cut jeans, will not be at all happy about the prospect of purchasing something that is absolutely suitable for him in size, but completely inappropriate in style (for example, jeans with a normal size in the waistband will turn out to be too narrow or, on the contrary, wide). Therefore, today we will try to clarify some questions that usually arise when choosing jeans.

It is worth considering the main characteristics regarding style and fit, as well as examining the terms by which they may be designated in certain online stores.

The word "FIT" refers to the overall silhouette of the jeans. How wide or narrow the cut will be depends on this characteristic.

This is the most basic characteristic of jeans, their “skeleton”, so to speak, and it is this parameter that can primarily determine how adequately certain jeans will look on a particular figure of their owner.

The most common for jeans is the so-called "Regular fit". Sometimes this fit can be called "Classic fit". In this case, the silhouette of the jeans does not fit very tightly on the figure, but at the same time, such a silhouette cannot be called spacious.

Almost every manufacturer involved in sewing denim clothing makes jeans of a similar fit. With this cut, the fit is quite snug in the hip area, but by no means a tight fit, and at the same time it is not a baggy fit.

In general, when “classic jeans” are mentioned in the description, then, as a rule, we are talking about Regular Fit. The most typical “representative” of such a fit can be called the well-known Levi’s 501, as well as dozens of models from various companies, one way or another based on the silhouette of the famous “five hundred first”.

This silhouette suits most body types. Regular fit fits normally on overweight people (it even “slims” them slightly without making them convulsively suck in their stomach), such jeans also don’t hang like a bag on thin people and, of course, it looks good on people with a standard figure.

Regular Fit will look adequate on both older and younger people. You can combine jeans of this cut with classic shoes, as well as sneakers or sneakers. As for outerwear, everything here is also quite universal; it will look good with both a short jacket and a voluminous winter parka.

This cut can be characterized by a more relaxed, loose silhouette (as the name suggests). When sized correctly, these jeans generally should not have a tight fit at the hips. Moreover, some manufacturers sometimes add some “allowance” for a more natural and slightly “casual” fit. This is where the opinion sometimes comes from that some jeans of this cut are too big. In other words, jeans with a Relaxed Fit silhouette tend to fit similarly to informal casual pants with a loose, but not baggy, fit.

For example, Levi's 559 relaxed fit jeans have this fit

Based on the practical side of the issue, such a fit will be good for people for whom a classic regular fit will be too tight in the hips. For example, many people involved in weightlifting or powerlifting sometimes find it difficult to choose clothes for themselves precisely because of their developed quadriceps. In this case, relaxed fit will be a very good choice. Also, this cut is good for a person who wants to have some relaxation when choosing the appropriate style of clothing. A day off, a walk in the park with children, a trip to nature - all this may require some physical activity, and, therefore, clothes that do not restrict movement. In this case, these “relaxed style” jeans will come in handy. These types of jeans are also good to use in winter, especially if they are made of thick denim. Firstly, it is very convenient to wear thermal underwear under such jeans, and secondly, they are very harmoniously combined with a voluminous “top” in the form of a warm winter down jacket. Shoes with such jeans will look good with the now popular massive work boots like Red Wing boots, various modern adaptations of trekking and hiking shoes, as well as all types of sneakers and sneakers.

A similar jeans silhouette can be characterized by words such as “baggy”, “loose”, “casual”, etc. Sometimes the manufacturer may use terms such as “Baggy Fit” or “Antifit” for such a fit. This is a very spacious cut that does not restrict the wearer’s movements at all. It is no coincidence that this silhouette is very popular with various streetwear brands, one way or another associated with active street sports. For example, manufacturers such as Carhartt, Addict, Boxfresh, etc. always have jeans of such a loose, baggy cut in their collections.

Please note that such jeans can not only have a very wide cut, but also have a significant margin in the waistband. So be careful when choosing the size.

Loose fit is primarily suitable for active, athletic youth. These jeans are best paired with sports or street style clothing. Comfortable knitted hoodies, spacious sweatshirts, T-shirts, sports jackets - all this will go very well with loose fit jeans. As for shoes, all versions of sneakers will look good, up to the rather bulky “basketball” options.

Women have their own version of these baggy jeans, the so-called boyfrend fit. This is not to say that it is a very popular thing, but many people like it.

It's a fairly narrow fit. These jeans fit exactly to your figure, but are not overly tight. This fit has a very tight fit at the hips. Sometimes new jeans with a similar cut are not so easy to put on, and at first they can be a little tight and quite uncomfortable to wear. It's okay :) Everything is as planned, in just a couple of hours the new skinny jeans will fit perfectly and will no longer be a source of discomfort. Slim fit is the true embodiment of rock and roll. Let's remember old photographs of rock stars, fit “music idols” were certainly dressed in just such skinny jeans. There is really one “but”. For these jeans you need to have a slim, toned figure. If a person has a plump figure, such jeans will only highlight its flaws; in this case, it is better to look at a regular or relaxed fit. It is best to combine skinny-cut jeans with the same slim-fit clothing that fits tightly to your figure. For example, with such jeans, tight T-shirts, tight-fitting formal shirts, mismatched jackets with a fitted “Italian” cut will look good, and classic polo shirts of the same narrow silhouette will look most advantageous.

Slim fit jeans go well with classic shoes, but if you combine them with any variations of sports shoes, it is better to use minimalist “low-tech” sneakers from the so-called “retro classics”. Canvas sneakers from a variety of manufacturers will also look good, or, in some cases, yacht shoes or moccasins will be a good option.

Outerwear with slim fit jeans will include jackets, peacoats and coats of a semi-fitting silhouette. It is better to avoid a voluminous “top”, since a slim “bottom” may not contrast with such clothes in the best way.

Just as the loose fit is a kind of extreme version of the relaxed fit, the skinny fit is an extreme exceptional version of the “slim” fit. Jeans of this fit have an extremely narrow cut that fits along the entire length of the leg, like a “second skin.”

In general, when people talk about skinny, they often mean the silhouette of jeans for the fair sex, but over the last few years skinny has been actively used in men's jeans. There are a lot of prejudices on this score, but personally I think that there is nothing reprehensible in such jeans. Skinny fit is a legacy of the punk rock of the rebellious 70s, which later took root, to some extent, in skate culture. In the 90s, such jeans were an attribute of the so-called “heroin chic”, the reason for this was the film Trainspotting starring Ewan McGregor.

Thus, skinny fit jeans and Converse sneakers have become an invariable combination, emphasizing the somewhat deliberately “decadent” style of the owner.

Currently, jeans of a similar silhouette are present in many collections of a variety of brands, from designer delights that to a certain extent aestheticize the “post-apocalypse” and the “dark side of the soul” like Rick Owens dark shadow, to more than democratic and cheerful youth brands like Gap or Cheap Monday . Also, skinnies are always present in the collections of brands that make unisex items.

So, we’ve figured out the “general silhouette” of jeans, now let’s figure out what cut is.

The term cut means a cut from the knee to the leg opening (bottom of the trouser leg).

It is the cut that determines whether the jeans will have a straight silhouette, slightly tapered at the bottom, or vice versa, flared.

This is the most common and traditional kata. In its original understanding it looked like this. The trouser leg had a completely straight cut, unchanged from the knee itself. This is roughly what jeans looked like in the 50s, a straight, completely non-tapering silhouette. If these jeans were a regular fit, a completely straight leg would visually increase the width. Therefore, for example, Levi's replicas from the 50s often look like quite roomy jeans, although their hip width may not exceed the same width as modern 501s.

If the jeans have a slim fit cut, a completely straight leg can create a visual image of some flare.

Similar jeans are still produced today, but they are relatively rare and, as a rule, from manufacturers who are inspired by the heyday of the denim industry of 40-60.

Currently, jeans, referred to as straight cut, are made somewhat differently. Following the anatomical structure of the human leg, the trouser leg from the knee has a very slight narrowing (but just a slight one, otherwise it is no longer a straight cut). This is exactly what the most classic pant leg shape looks like from dozens of different manufacturers from around the world. This cut goes great with a wide variety of shoes and is generally very versatile. These jeans look good both rolled up (this is a legacy of the era of the same 40-50s) and adjusted to the required length. The most typical example would be the same image of the same 501 Levies.

This is a tapered fit, sometimes the term " tailored leg", which quite accurately reflects its essence and origin. The fact is that in the 60s there was a fashion for stitched trousers, which were narrowed by tailors in the studio or people sewed trousers and jeans on their own. Soon such jeans began to be produced in factory versions Sometimes the leg opening (bottom of the leg) of such jeans is so small that you can barely stick your foot in. Thus, if we talk about tapered cut, we are talking about tapered jeans that have a pronounced bevel from the knee. Such jeans require a good figure, therefore It’s still worth imagining how good they will look on the owner. For shoes with tapered cut jeans, you should use neat, not very bulky shoes, for example, sneakers based on retro classics or completely minimalist sneakers like classic Vans or Superga.

It should also be mentioned that if these jeans are made from selvedge denim, the “hem” is usually cut off due to the indirect tapered patterns of such jeans.

The bootcut is a legacy of the cowboy era of the wild west. A practical feature of these jeans was the ability to wear them over cowboy boots. Also, if necessary, such jeans could be easily rolled up to the knee; with a straight cut, such manipulations would be difficult to do.

To put it very simply, a boot cut is flared jeans that widen towards the leg opening. There are several options for this cut. The most common option is when the trouser leg in the knee area is “fitted” on both sides, while the bottom of the trouser leg has approximately the same width as in the hip area. This is a rather “delicate” option, when the flare falls quite unobtrusively onto the shoes, without being very noticeable. A more “extreme” option is a pronounced extension from the knee (socket). In this case, the bottom of the trouser leg is clearly wider than the thigh. Sometimes a term such as Flared Leg is even used, i.e. obvious, pronounced flare. Remember the photographs of hippies from the 60s - these are exactly these jeans.

Currently, this option is rare and is intended for very big fans of such aesthetics, despite the fact that the bootcut is not the most trendy cut at all. Sometimes there is, so to speak, a “one-sided” bootcut. In this case, the outer side of the trouser leg will be absolutely straight, and the inner side will just have a slight expansion downwards. Sometimes these jeans can look even closer to a straight cut. This is exactly the cut of the iconic jeans from the Swedish company Nudie, the Regular Ralf model (later renamed Alf), for the last seven years. Straight cut on the outer side and a very slight boot cut on the inside. At the same time, the famous selvedge edge for this reason remained completely untouched and was often shown on the hem.

Who are flared jeans good for? First of all, such a kat can be recommended for people with large feet. Imagine a person with shoe size 45 wearing skinny jeans. Introduced? So, in the case of a boot cut, the large foot will be visually “balanced” by the flared leg that naturally falls onto the shoe. These jeans look good with sneakers (again, for some this may be a “return to the 70s”) and almost any sneakers from the simplest adidas gazelle to runners from NB or Asics.

This term denotes, in the language of tailors, the “seat height” of a thing.

That is, how high, low or medium the landing will be depends on the Rise parameter. There are High Rise, Medium Rise and Low Rise.

This is a high-slung style, much loved by cowboys. The most signature look for the Wrangler is the tight fit with very high-rise jeans. The fact is that this is dictated by the specifics of horse riding; with a lower waistband, the pants will simply slide off the wearer. Cavalry trousers also had a fairly high rise for the same reason.

If these jeans are fastened with "bolts" (metal buttons), they may have one additional "button".

Jeans with a high belt look better on a standard figure (for example, such a belt will simply be uncomfortable for an overweight person).

Current fashion trends dictate slightly different standards. However, if a person really likes such a fit, of course, no one bothers him to use it to his heart’s content.

The most common "medium fit". The most typical medium rise jeans are, again, the traditional 501 Levi's. However, this only applies to modern 501s. Historical Levi's 501s often had a rather high, almost Wrangler-like belt. This is especially true for models of the 44-47s. Just look at modern replicas of jeans from this period or Levi's own "reconstruction" LVC line to be convinced that the seating position of such gins was quite high.

Jeans with a Medium Rise fit naturally - neither high nor low. Medium Rise is suitable for absolutely everyone - fat, thin, and average; both youth and older people; both men and women.

Low Rise is a low belt. This type of planting gained popularity in the 60s. It can be “slightly below average” or very low, when the jeans sit very low on the hips (the latter is typical primarily for women’s jeans). This fit is also very much for everyone; people accustomed to the classics may not find it too comfortable. However, many people and especially women like the fit of their jeans.

Thus, we found out that to fully describe the cut of jeans, three main parameters are used - these are Fit (the overall silhouette of the jeans), Cut (the width of the pant leg from the knee to the bottom) and Rise (the height of the waistband). Now we can easily understand any description of jeans in online stores (and perhaps in a regular store the description that previously seemed like “Chinese writing” will be much clearer).

For example, if we read in the description: regular fit - boot cut - low rise, then we can easily figure out that we mean jeans of a classic “medium” silhouette, with a slight “flare” at the bottom and a low rise in the waistband. Slim fit - medium rise - tapered cut - these are skinny fit jeans with a medium waist and tapered at the bottom. High rise - relaxed fit - straight cut - these are jeans with a high waist, a spacious silhouette, and a straight leg (i.e. something similar to Wrangler jeans or any “working” style jeans).
