Kurganmashzavod today sent the last batch of 25 BTR-MDM multi-purpose armored personnel carriers to the Airborne Forces as part of the state defense order, completing a three-year contract with the Ministry of Defense four months earlier. And at the same time he demonstrated new items - the BMP-3M "Dragoon", the BMD-4M with the "Sinitsa" combat module and others.

The plant put a lot of effort into creating armored personnel carriers, starting with design, construction, setting up production, and then completing the contract. The contract allows the Ministry of Defense to equip units of the Airborne Forces with vehicles that did not exist before. These are new combat capabilities,” says First Deputy Executive Director of the plant Alexey Losev.

Let us remind you that the airborne combat vehicles were shipped on March 3, 2015. “Rakushka,” as the BTR-MDM armored personnel carrier is also called, is designed for transporting personnel, spare parts, ammunition, and fuels and lubricants. It is equipped with a modern weapons system. With such equipment, parachute units can destroy the enemy during battle without entering the direct fire zone. The vehicle is adapted for landing from a military transport aircraft along with its crew, and can move on water and on land.

According to Nikolai Grekhov, deputy chief designer for serial production of the Special Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering, the new equipment differs from the previous class of airborne vehicles with a higher-power engine.

The most important thing is that it is unified with the BMP-3. This is a great advantage in the repair and operation of machines,” said a representative of the design bureau. “That is, they work on the same oils, on the same fuel. There are a number of other advantages. The paratroopers like it in terms of mobility.

The customers were satisfied with the work of the Kurgan craftsmen.

The three-year contract has been successfully completed, but our cooperation with Kurganmashzavod does not end there,” said the head of the military representative office, Evgeny Sutormin. - The next contract is already at the Ministry of Defense and will be signed in the near future.

On the same day, journalists were shown prototypes of the BT-3F armored personnel carrier based on the BMP-3, which is designed to transport marine units and fire support for dismounted troops, the BMP-3M Dragoon infantry fighting vehicle, as well as the BMD-4M airborne combat vehicle with combat module "Sinitsa".

The first two vehicles - BT-3F and Dragoon - had already been at an army exhibition last year, but the Sinitsa had not yet been shown to the general public. It has only just been prepared for preliminary tests.

“The Sinitsa is fundamentally different from previous models in that it is equipped with a panoramic sight with a thermal imaging channel, thanks to which the crew commander will be able to see further at night, identify the enemy earlier and give target designations to the gunner,” explained First Deputy Chief Designer of the SKBM Alexey Kozlov. - The machine is floating, overcomes water obstacles without preparation while afloat at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. Can operate from water with all types of weapons.

By the way, this year 18 Kurgan vehicles will participate in the military parade in Moscow, including Kurganets, BMP-3, BMD-4M and Rakushka.

With the chief designer of OJSC "Special Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering" (Kurgan) Sergei Abdulov.

The MT-LB tracked armored personnel carrier developed by the design bureau of the Kharkov Tractor Plant is already outdated and needs to be replaced. It will be replaced by the newest BT-3F vehicle, which is being developed under the code "Armor". The chief designer of OJSC "Special Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering" Sergei Abdulov, in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2017", told what the new armored personnel carrier for the Russian army will be like, how the Kurganets-25 is being tested and what will change in the modernized BMP- 3.

A prototype of the BT-3F armored personnel carrier developed by OJSC "Special Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering" (Kurgan) at the exposition of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2017" Alexey Panshin / TASS

— Let's start with BT-3F, this is a new project, so tell us more about it.

— The main area of application of the new machine is the replacement of MT-LB and MT-LBU. BT-3F is a more advanced and more protected armored personnel carrier. Initially, the question of creating such a vehicle was raised by a foreign customer to replace the BTR-50 currently in service.

Nevertheless, we must understand that in our country there are also potential customers for this machine. For example, there are a number of enterprises that want to create various types of weapons based on the BT-3F - in particular, communications and control equipment, command and staff vehicles, and so on.

— What is the status of this car? Is OCD open?

— We are carrying out full-fledged development work commissioned by the Ministry of Defense under the code “Armor”.

— It is known that Indonesia wants to buy a similar armored personnel carrier, are there any negotiations with them?

— Negotiations are in full swing. By the way, cooperation with this country has been going on for a long time. For example, our Indonesian partners have been using our BMP-3F for several years and are very satisfied.

Representatives of SKBM and Kurganmashzavod traveled to the customer’s territory, where they presented this machine. It is worth noting that we are not the only players in this market - there is competition, as Indonesians also consider cars produced in other countries. But our armored personnel carrier has certain advantages over its competitors. This is due to the fact that our machines are subjected to more stringent factory tests.

— Considering that the development work is in the interests of the military, when are the preliminary tests of the BT-3F planned to be completed?

— Factory tests are planned to be completed next year.

— The Sinitsa combat module that you installed on the BMD-4M is the one from which Vladimir Anatolyevich Shamanov once fired?

- Not certainly in that way. He shot from a prototype, which was made, one might say, “on the knee.” "Sinitsa" was created from scratch - the Ministry of Defense issued a technical specification for it, the product is now undergoing preliminary tests.

— What are the main differences from the Bakhcha-U module, which is now on the BMD-4M?

— The main difference is, of course, unification with the BMP-3. The power unit and chassis of the vehicle have been unified, and now we are unifying the fighting compartment. In addition, our module is cheaper than the Bakhchi and has the ability to fire at air targets through the commander’s sight.

— Are there any further plans to modernize the BMP-3?

— We do not separate these products, since the further direction of unification simultaneously determines the direction of modernization. Roughly speaking, having installed the commander’s panoramic sight on the Sinitsa, we automatically plan to install it on the BMP-3.

Foreign customers are interested in such modernization, primarily the UAE, which assessed this possibility of modernization, and it will also be useful for our army.

— What tests is Kurganets-25 subjected to?

— As you know, we are now conducting preliminary tests. The fact is that the car is new, so each unit and element requires its own type of testing. Sea trials are underway, the next stage is firing, then special types of tests.

- What is this?

— These are tests that determine the security of the product.

- So they will shoot at her?

- Without fail.

— What is the line of vehicles on the Kurganets-25 platform?

“In the future, it is planned to install on this platform all types of weapons that are suitable in terms of load capacity and type, as well as in accordance with the wishes of the customer. This will be a large lineup, so it’s difficult to limit yourself to a specific list.

The idea of the Ministry of Defense is to make unified platforms of all classes. If we talk about wheeled ones, then it’s “Boomerang”, if we talk about light and medium tracked ones, then it’s “Kurganets”, and if we talk about heavy ones, then it’s “Armata”.

— What other OCDs do you have?

— In principle, these are the vehicles we talked about, plus work is still being done to improve the BMP-3 - in particular, the Ataka guided weapon system is being installed on it. In addition, work is being carried out to improve the security of this machine.

Interviewed by Alexey Panshin

Giving way to a tank is not out of politeness. You understand this army saying literally when you see the T-14 Armata tank up close. The battlefield predator fascinates with its menacing beauty and inspires respect for the menacing power hidden under its multi-layered armor.

The Armata is matched by its attack-ready “flock”: the T-15 heavy infantry fighting vehicle with the Kinzhal combat module, the Terminator tank support combat vehicle, the Boomerang armored personnel carrier, the Kurganets-25 infantry fighting vehicle, anti-aircraft artillery complex "Derivation-PVO".

All of these newest vehicles for modern combat greet visitors immediately at the entrance to the Patriot Convention and Exhibition Center.

Further, in the pavilions and open areas of the IV International Military-Technical Forum (IMTF), many more exhibits are presented, familiarity with which only strengthens the sense of pride in our Armed Forces and our military-industrial complex.

Russia is threatened that “sanctions pressure and diplomatic efforts will be supported by military means”?! Oh well…

You can’t hold the “Tit” in your hands

“Today we are presenting about 26,000 units of military products,” Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu said at the opening ceremony of the 2018 IMF. “This is equipment, weapons, this is what is necessary to ensure security at sea, in the air, on land.”

The head of the military department especially emphasized that most of what was presented at Army 2018 was tested in real combat conditions, in the fight against international terrorism. The weapon not only confirmed its characteristics, but also showed that Russian industry has reached the most modern, high level.

The paratroopers have already appreciated the advantages of our promising BMD-4M2 “Sinitsa,” Sergei Chirkov, deputy chief designer of Kurganmashzavod, told the weekly Zvezda. “We designed it taking into account the combat experience of using armored vehicles in Syria.

The Sinitsa airborne combat vehicle differs from previous models in that it is equipped with a panoramic sight with a television-thermal imaging channel. Now the crew commander will be able to see further at night, identify the enemy earlier and give target designations to the gunner. The combat module is equipped with an ATGM loading mechanism, an automated digital, all-day, noise-resistant fire control system with the ability to automatically track targets. Other combat functions have also been improved.

The BMD-4M2 is fully adapted for parachute landing with combat crews inside the vehicle. And the armored tit bird is a waterfowl, which means it can serve not only in the Airborne Forces, but also in naval marine units. According to the designer, an important advantage of the combat vehicle is its low cost.

“The Sinitsa is unified with the BMP-3,” said Sergei Chirkov. – Both cars have the same engine, transmission, chassis, and much other equipment. With mass production, this will not only provide the Armed Forces with high-quality modern armored vehicles, but will also save money from the state budget.

The BMD-4M2 is currently undergoing factory testing. According to Chirkov, the results are excellent.

The main events of the Army 2018 forum take place from August 21 to 26 at the Patriot Convention and Exhibition Center, at the Kubinka airfield and the Alabino training ground. Products are represented by about 1,500 organizations and enterprises that provide the Russian Armed Forces with modern weapons. The events include exhibition, demonstration and scientific and business programs.

The demonstration program will traditionally be a spectacular event and will demonstrate the power of Russian weapons, military and special equipment.

The main thing is that the suit fits...

It doesn’t sink in water, it doesn’t burn in fire, - leading specialist of the Perm company “Kirasa” Sergey Korelin suggests trying the special fabric of the 6B49 combat protective kit by touch.

Fabric is like fabric. Dense.

It is not pierced by a fragment flying at a speed of 240 meters per second, says Korelin. – Special inserts on the joints, for example, knee pads, withstand the impact of the striking element, which flies at a speed of 540 meters per second. This is the first class of protection!

Individual armor protection and combat equipment developed and produced by the Perm Cuirass saved many soldiers’ lives during combat operations in the North Caucasus. Now JSC "Kirasa" is a supplier of TsNIITochmash, the main enterprise for the creation of combat equipment for the Russian soldier "Ratnik". In addition to the protective suit, Perm supplies protective gloves, thigh shields, a ventilating T-shirt and a “tricky” heat-insulating mat for the kit.

You can sleep on it on the ground, in the snow,” said Sergei Korelin. – And when crossing a water obstacle, it is easily transformed into an element of positive buoyancy.

Next to the “Ratnikov” equipment already supplied to the troops, the proactively developed combat protection “Permyachka-MM” is presented. According to Korelin, this is “simply space” in the field of individual protection for a fighter on the battlefield.

“By tradition, this large-scale review of the latest developments in the defense industry brings together leading Russian and foreign experts, serves as a popular platform for discussing issues of military-technical cooperation and, of course, helps strengthen partnership contacts between the defense departments of different countries...

I am convinced that the extensive program of the forum will once again convincingly demonstrate the enormous potential of our gunsmiths: designers, engineers, workers. It is their hands and talent that create unique equipment for the Russian army and navy.”

"Plant "Selmash"" of strategic purpose

The pavilion of the Tactical Missile Weapons Corporation displays the missiles and bombs with which our Aerospace Forces “beat” terrorists of all stripes into fine dust in Syria.

KAB-500Kr works on the principle of “dropped and forgotten,” Pyotr Nikolaenko told the weekly Zvezda. – This adjustable aerial bomb with a television-correlation homing head and a concrete-piercing warhead is capable of “remembering” the location of the target and independently adjusting its flight before striking the enemy. The inevitable weapon, the superbomb. The Americans make expensive cruise missiles with such equipment, while we make inexpensive but high-precision aerial bombs. Of course, we are ahead.

Petr Nikolaenko is a specialist at a defense enterprise with the completely “peaceful” name of the State Research and Production Enterprise “Region”. Stopping at another stand at the forum, the photojournalist and I, without saying a word, unanimously remembered an old joke.

“TASS is authorized to declare that yesterday four enemy divisions crossed the border and attacked a peacefully plowing Soviet tractor. The tractor repelled the treacherous attack with heavy rocket and artillery fire, destroying 30 tanks and up to 10,000 enemy soldiers. After which, turning on the propulsion engines, the agricultural machinery disappeared into near-Earth space. Tractor driver Major Petrov was presented with the order. The chairman of the collective farm, Colonel General Sidorov, warns: if the incident repeats, Soviet seeders, winnowing machines and a vertical take-off combine will enter the field.”

Well, what else could we remember when, under the sign of JSC “Plant Selmash”, we saw a huge active-reactive mine for the 240-mm self-propelled mortar of the reserve artillery of the Supreme High Command “Tulpan” and a couple of dozen more ammunition?!

In June 1943, the first wagons with shells for 100-mm field guns went to the front from our plant,” says the first deputy. General Director of the Kirov enterprise Alexander Maksen. – Since then, all domestic shells of calibers from 76 to 152 mm have been produced by us. Our technologies have been developed to such an extent that we are ready at any moment to switch to mass production of any modern ammunition.

“Pine” grows next to “Topol”

...Officers of military attaches and people in civilian clothes from many countries walk around the exhibition from exhibit to exhibit, in groups and individually. They all click their cameras almost non-stop. Apparently, they take it as a keepsake, for family albums...

Our most formidable troops - the Strategic Missile Forces - did not present the new Yars and the newest Sarmat. The Topol mobile missile system, which has long served the Motherland faithfully, is taking the rap for everyone. However, foreigners also film it from different angles.

But another, truly super-new “plant” from our “khaki forest” was shown for the first time by domestic defense industry workers at the Army-2018 forum.

The Russian Army will soon have the Sosna anti-aircraft missile system in service,” the managing director of JSC KBtochmash named after A.E. presented the new product. Nudelman" Valery Makeev. - Now preparations are underway for its mass production.

Armed with 12 9M340 Sosna-R anti-aircraft guided missiles with a laser beam guidance system, this air defense system is capable of combat operations day and night, in the most extreme climatic conditions, from a standstill and on the move. What is important in the conditions of modern combat: “Sosna” cannot be “knocked out” by radar and optical suppression means. The air defense system is designed to protect troops from air attack and reconnaissance weapons, and is ready to shoot down everything - from aircraft to drones - at a range of up to 10 km and an altitude of up to 5 km.

There is no such unique anti-aircraft missile system in the armies of any industrialized state.

Colonel General Sergei Ivanov: “It’s impossible to sell us a second freshness”

“The Russian military-technical forum has become the best in the world, I have been to many foreign weapons exhibitions and can compare objectively. Our industry shows the whole world what Russian brains and hands are capable of. That is why so many foreign delegations have come to us now. The Turkish military leadership has never come to Russia before - now they are our guests. Many people in the world are interested in our small arms and military equipment for various purposes. We are making qualitative breakthroughs in all directions.

Personally, I am very pleased that such a breakthrough has occurred in the creation of a modern element base, including radiation-resistant ones. Because of the sanctions imposed against our country, things were bad here; spacecraft, though not for military purposes, but for civilian ones, fell because of this. Now we produce our own high-quality electronic components.

In general, in all respects, the weapons we have now are wonderful. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov select the best models for the Russian Armed Forces. They understand well what they are doing, and, in simple terms, it is impossible to “sell” anything “second freshness” to them.”

LANDING COMBAT VEHICLE BMD-4M2 “SINISA”

AIRBORNE COMBAT VEHICLE BMD-4M2 “SINICA”

22.01.2016
THE COMMANDER OF THE AIRBOARDS EVALUATED THE CAPABILITIES OF THE BMD-4M WITH THE BMP-3 COMBAT MODULE

At the assembly plant of VgTZ - Governor of the Volgograd region Andrey BOCHAROV, commander of the Airborne Forces Vladimir SHAMANOV, executive director of VMK "VgTZ" Alexander KLYUZHEV.

On January 19, 2016, Colonel General Vladimir SHAMANOV, Commander of the Airborne Forces of the Russian Federation, paid a working visit to the Volgograd site of Tractor Plants - VMK VgTZ. The purpose of the visit is to get acquainted with the progress of the state defense order and test in action the new version of the BMD-4M with the BMP-3 combat module.
As part of the technical re-equipment of the Russian army, the airborne troops are vitally interested in the supply of BMD-4M and BTR-MDM landing vehicles, which recently successfully passed state tests. Last year, the design documentation for these modernized landing vehicles was assigned the serial production letter.
Vladimir Shamanov inspected the Volgograd production site of Tractor Plants, where the BMD-4M is being assembled. At the Prudboy training ground, the commander of the Airborne Forces was shown the driving capabilities and firepower of the new BMD-4M with a modernized BMP-3 fighting compartment. The new model of the airborne combat vehicle is equipped with thermal and television sights, an automatic target tracking device, as well as a panoramic commander’s observation device developed at the Vologda Optical-Mechanical Plant. Among the advantages of the BMD-4M with the BMP-3 combat module is a high level of unification with the BMP-3, which significantly reduces operating costs for its maintenance in the army, increases maintainability, and also provides the opportunity to train BMP and BMD crews using a unified training system.

Vladimir SHAMANOV personally assessed the capabilities of the BMD-4M with the BMP-3 combat module.

After the Airborne Forces commander personally conducted a test drive of the updated BMD-4M, he shared his impressions with journalists: “The vehicle is extremely easy to operate, obedient and, in terms of its characteristics, certainly surpasses similar foreign-made equipment. Among its advantages are broad capabilities for detecting and tracking a target even in conditions of poor visibility, firing at low-flying targets, and high mobility.”
“It is also important to note,” noted Andrei BOCHAROV, governor of the Volgograd region, “that along with high tactical and technical characteristics, this landing vehicle is entirely assembled from domestic components, which significantly reduces its cost. This is also a huge plus in today's conditions, when every penny counts. I think that the decision that such a vehicle is needed by the Airborne Forces will be made in the near future after the prototype has passed the necessary tests.
Then Vladimir Shamanov held a working meeting at VgTZ, where issues of fulfilling the state defense order as part of the rearmament of the airborne troops were discussed. The Airborne Forces commander positively assessed the progress of work on the implementation of the State Defense Order at the Volgograd site of the Tractor Plants and expressed confidence that new landing equipment will continue to enter the troops within the time frame specified in the contracts.
