In the cartoon "SpongeBob" the characters are created specifically interesting and unique in order to arouse the interest of children. They are memorable for their features, attract attention and often make kids laugh. Each of the main characters is a separate person with his own tastes and desires. That is why all fans of the animated film should know them.

Main character

In this story, the main character is SpongeBob. The rest of the characters are connected to him in one way or another. This cook is small in size, yellow in appearance and resembles He cooks the best hamburgers in the world, which are called “Krabby Patties”. He loves and appreciates his work, because even the greed of his boss does not prevent him from continuing to do what he loves. Every day he takes part in various adventures and faces different problems. True friends help him avoid trouble. Together with them, he loves to hunt jellyfish, practice karate, launch soap cartoons and watch the adventures of marine superheroes.

Patrick

In the animated series "SpongeBob", the main characters often appear on the screens, and one of them is Patrick the starfish. This eccentric character does not have any special mental abilities and can do nothing for days on end. Despite this, he is SpongeBob's best friend and they spend a lot of time together when the main character is not at work. Together they often hunt jellyfish, although these animals cause a lot of trouble for them during entertainment. Patrick has a huge appetite and is able to eat a whole bunch of Krabby Patties at one time, which his best friend cooks. It is this character who comes up with the craziest activities for the kids with different consequences. He looks like a starfish, is completely pink and always wears shorts with the same image. His inability to think is explained by the scientific fact that living beings of this class do not have a brain. This is exactly what is shown in the cartoon. The character often surprises and appears in every episode.

Angry neighbor

In each episode, in addition to Patrick, Squidward, whom SpongeBob loves very much, also appears. The characters never get along with each other, although the main character considers him his friend. Being next to the yellow chef only brings trouble to this octopus. He loves art and tries to find inspiration for painting and playing the violin, but Patrick and Bob constantly disturb him with their games and noise. Peace and quiet are his best friends, but he never manages to be in such a state. Unlike the main character, Squidward hates his job as a cashier at a diner, because there he runs into Bob. At first glance, it seems that he dreams of running away from the eternal noise of his neighbors, but in fact he has gotten used to it. In the episode where he moved to the octopus town, the character eventually begins to experience boredom. He gets tired of the daily monotony and makes his own fun. In the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants, the character often looks dejected. It is very rare to see a smile on the face of an octopus.

Sandy

In the cartoon "SpongeBob SquarePants", the character Sandy is not a sea creature. This inhabitant of the earthly kingdom is a squirrel, but one day she decided to move to the underwater world. The girl is an avid athlete and is always in excellent physical shape. She lives in a special dome where there is air, and moves under water wearing a spacesuit. When SpongeBob and Patrick come to visit her, they put aquariums of water on their heads. This character comes from Texas and her cheerful and at the same time razor-sharp character speaks about this. Everyone knows that it’s better not to make Sandy angry, otherwise everyone around her will get it. She has enormous strength and is the main character's karate partner. Belka devotes all her free time to training in various sports. Sandy's main dream is to fly to the moon and explore the terrain in space. She became friends with Bob immediately after moving to the bottom of the sea, and it was he who helped her get used to her new home.

Eternal confrontation

There are characters from the cartoon "SpongeBob" who are eternal enemies. These include Eugene Krabs and Plankton. They are both the owners of eateries, but the first establishment is successful due to the excellent culinary skills of the protagonist. The second one tries to attract clients with the help of technology and constantly fails. Krabs' safe contains the secret formula for the recipe for delicious Krabby Patties. It is this that Plankton tries to steal in almost every episode. He fails to do this, because the owner protects her along with Bob. Their battles never end, because the crab's resourceful opponent always finds new and original ways to steal the recipe. Mr. Krabs dreams of making a million, because what he loves most in life is money. Plankton only hopes that his establishment will one day become popular. This is his main goal in life and he tries to follow it, despite daily failures.

Other characters

There are other SpongeBob characters who appear on screen from time to time. This includes the snail Gary, the protagonist's favorite pet. There are many episodes associated with him, when he was looking for his love and even ran away from Bob in search of a new life. Sometimes Mr. Krabs's capricious daughter Pearl appears on the screens, asking for money for new clothes or entertainment. Karen is Plankton's mechanical wife who runs his establishment. In episodes related to sports competitions, Larry the Lobster appears, which other characters depicted in the SpongeBob cartoon cannot resist. The main characters always dreamed of taking a photo with him, and one day they succeeded. In some episodes, Mrs. Puff appears and tries to teach Bob how to drive a car. He is not at all inclined to this, and therefore the teacher always suffers from these trips and often gets into accidents. Mrs. Puff has repeatedly asked SpongeBob to stop trying to pass the driving test, but he does not give up and continues to torment the examiner.

The adventures of the heroes do not end, so new characters may soon appear on the screen.

And yet the main one is the origin of Pearl, the daughter of the richest guy in Bikini Bot. But a lot of free time and three facts from the show forced us to find the answer.

Fact 1

The show doesn't deal with the laws of natural physics very well, but we still have to admit - the likelihood that Krabs is Pearl's biological father is extremely low.

This immediately raises the question: what can make a guy who is ready to kill for a penny and feeds an entire city with burgers that are clearly addictive, adopt a baby whale? We will give the answer below.

Fact 2

Mother Pearl. She is hardly mentioned in the show, and yet the main thing we know about her is: she exists and she is a whale. If only because one day the upset father says: “Pearl is so similar to her mother!”

But was her mother Krabs' wife? Only those who are familiar with “SpongeBob” solely from the balloons in the park and positive ice cream can think that he is capable of sharing a budget with someone on an ongoing basis:

Fact 3

This may seem irrelevant, but note that Krabs, while brave in all other respects, has a strong aversion to fishhooks.

“Repeat after me! Woohoo-woohoo, I don’t go near the hooks.”[very loose translation]

All this adds up to the only possible picture: when Pearl was a baby, her mother was caught by whalers. Krabs, who happened to be nearby, saved the girl, but her mother died. To make it even clearer, we found a comic about these events (it’s good that someone has as much time as we do). So, Pearl's appearance in pictures:

Accordingly, Krabs knows what he's talking about when he compares his daughter to his mother. And at the same time, this explains why he does not like devices from the human world and spends so much money on a child that is not his own. The theory is confirmed even by the name Kitikha, which means “pearl”!

General information

sponge Bob Square Pants

Relentlessly optimistic, kind, funny, hardworking, reliable, SpongeBob lives in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom. His best friend is Patrick the starfish, but he has many other friends with whom he shares common interests. But there are also inhabitants of the town who cannot stand him. His neighbor, Squidward, an octopus who lives in a house that looks like a statue from Easter Island, constantly complains that SpongeBob does not allow him to live in peace. Very often SpongeBob gets too emotional, even in matters that he doesn't even know about (for example, when Squidward suggested that he go on strike at the Krusty Krab, and SpongeBob was very happy about it, although he didn't know what it was) . This, coupled with his overly sociable nature and dolphin-like laugh, irritates other characters such as Mrs. Puff, Squidward, and Plankton. By the way, SpongeBob was in prison once and spent the night in the police station once.

Interests

Patrick Star is one of the main characters in the American animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, voiced by Bill Fagerbake, and in the Russian version by actor Yuri Malyarov.

General information

Patrick is a pink, goofy, densely built starfish. He usually wears green shorts with purple flowers.

Patrick lives under a large rock, across the house from SpongeBob. Patrick has a wind direction indicator on his rock. Many episodes depict Patrick's house as a simple rock with Patrick sleeping on its underside. Other episodes show living quarters under a cliff, full of furniture and appliances made from sand, although the size of the rooms varies depending on the episode. The episode Home Sweet Pineapple shows Patrick covering himself with the rock like a big blanket.

Patrick Star is SpongeBob's neighbor and best friend. They have many common interests: blowing bubbles, catching jellyfish, the TV show “The Adventures of the Sea Superman and the Barnacle Boy.” He often calls on SpongeBob to join him in dangerous or silly activities, such as fishing hook rides. Despite the bad consequences of Patrick's plans, SpongeBob recognizes the genius of some of his ideas and consults with him in difficult situations.

Sandy Cheeks

During the winter, Sandy hibernates. During hibernation, it increases in size and becomes like a bear. In her sleep she talks about outlaws of the Wild West.

Interests Personality

Sandy is very proud of his status as an air-breathing mammal. She is usually friendly and positive, but when angry she becomes instantly ferocious. Sandy speaks with a Southern accent, but whether it is a Texas accent is debatable. She loves her home state of Texas very much and gets angry in response to negative opinions about it.

Friends

Sandy became one of SpongeBob's best friends after saving him from a giant oyster and has since enjoyed having fun with him (like doing karate). Sandy is also friends with Larry, which sometimes makes SpongeBob jealous.

Pets

According to the Wormy series, Sandy has many pets: caterpillars, crickets, mice and snakes. A caterpillar named Wormy has caused quite a stir in Bikini Bottom by transforming into a butterfly.

Sandy's house

Sandy's house is an air-filled dome with a tree growing under it. This is the only place underwater where Sandy can breathe without her suit. Interestingly, natural processes occur under the dome, such as the change of seasons and precipitation.

Squidward Tentacles

House

Krabs lives in a house shaped like a black anchor. There is no information about neighbors.

Sheldon Jay Plankton

Plans and attempts
  • Plankton first appears in the episode of the same name “Plankton!”, where he takes control of Spongebob’s brain and, with the hands of a naive cook, steals one of the Krabby Patties. He planned to place the Krabby Patty in a specially designed analyzer, but ended up getting caught in it himself. Thus, the seemingly foolproof plan completely fails.
  • In the episode "Plankton's Army", it is revealed that Sheldon has been trying to obtain the formula for 25 years. This time, he invites all his many relatives to help him take possession of the treasured formula, but Krabs gives him a fake recipe for making a Krabby Patty. As a result, all the relatives, including cousin Clem, who cannot understand the significance of the formula, run back to the Trash Can.
  • In the episode with the self-explanatory title “F.U.N.” Spongebob teaches Plankton how to have fun, which results in them becoming friends. However, then, as expected, the microscopic villain betrays Spongebob and with his help gets the formula. But immediately after revealing his insidious essence, he falls into concrete and remains out of work.
  • In the episode "Fake Krabs", Plankton constructs a mechanical Krabs robot and passes it off as the real owner of the diner. But soon the real Mr. Krabs appears and stops Spongebob, who is about to give the secret formula to the fake.
  • In the episode "Culture Shock", Plankton uses magic spells to obtain the Krabby Patty recipe, but in the end he himself falls under the influence of his own magic.
  • In "Bucket, Sweet Bucket", Plankton encourages Squidward, Spongebob and Patrick to paint his restaurant, the Trash Bucket. As a result of the actions of this cheerful team of painters, the Garbage Bucket is destroyed, and the formula can no longer be discussed.
  • In the episode "Welcome to the Trash Can", Krabs loses his loyal employee Spongebob to the treacherous Plankton in a card game. Naturally, he tries to force Spongebob to cook Krabby Patties, but he flatly refuses. Then Plankton removes Spongebob's brain and transplants it into the robot, but the robot also does not want to cook anything. As a result, the villain transplants the brain back and returns the careless cook to Krabs, and even with an additional payment of $50.
  • In the episode "Krusty Krab Training Video", Plankton captures a Krabby Patty disguised as an insect, but moves too slowly and Krabs catches up to him.
  • In "The Krabby Patty Horror," Plankton forces Krabs to switch the diner to 24-hour operation and then places an order for 1 million Krabby Patties over the phone. Working for many days without sleep or rest, Spongebob goes crazy and begins to panic about the subject of his activity. He goes to a psychoanalyst, under whose guise Plankton himself disguised himself, and tries to be cured. Plankton puts Spongebob to sleep and intends to find out the recipe through hypnosis, but Spongebob wakes up rested and full of energy, his schizophrenia completely disappears.
  • In the episode "Friend or Foe?" Krabs and Plankton become friends again, the latter coming to his sworn enemy with an apology and vowing that he will never try to steal the secret formula again. As a result, as one might expect, he betrays Krabs and steals the treasured recipe. But Krabs, together with Spongebob, manages to neutralize him in time.
  • In the first full-length cartoon, “SpongeBob SquarePants (film),” Plankton steals the crown of the powerful King Neptune, as a result of which he is going to destroy the Krusty Krabs, and with him Mr. Krabs, who was blamed for the kidnapping. Spongebob and Patrick go on a journey and find the crown, but upon their return, Plankton seizes control of all the city's residents and sends them against the brave heroes. Unexpectedly for everyone, Spongebob takes up a guitar and begins to sing a powerful rock song, which completely dispels the villain's spell.
Interesting facts about Plankton
  • The official directory of the Nickelodeon TV channel says that Uncle Plankton lives in Russia.
  • In "Crabburger Horror", Sheldon used the name Peter Lankton (P. Lankton for short) when he wanted to order crabburgers anonymously.
  • Until Plankton's Army, Plankton's "wife" did not know his name.
  • In Krabby Patty Road, Plankton stole the Krabby Patty recipe, which was actually called the "Secret Formula" (as Plankton called it), and the ingredient list was just a bunch of letters.

The animated series "SpongeBob SquarePants" collected $140 million at the worldwide box office and was among the top five best animated adaptations. How did an anthropomorphic sponge that lives in a pineapple manage to win the sympathy of not only children, but also adults? The following 14 facts will help you find out the answer to this question.

1. The idea to create SpongeBob SquarePants came to the mind of Stephen Hillenburg, who used to work as a marine biologist.

Stephen Hillenburg studied in a specialty related to the organization of rational use of marine natural resources. After graduation, he taught ocean biology for several years at one of the higher educational institutions in the state of California. Among other things, Hillenburg was also fond of drawing. He even created his own comic book called "Tidal Zone", the main character of which was a prototype of SpongeBob.

In 1997, Hillenburg began working on the animated series "SpongeBob SquarePants", which subsequently became very interesting to representatives of the children's television channel "Nickelodeon".

2. In the original, the character of the animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg was going to be called Sponge Boy

Initially, Stephen Hillenburg wanted to call the main character of his animated series Sponge Boy, or SpongeBoy. However, this name was already used by a company that produced mops, as well as various cleaning and detergent products. Be that as it may, Hillenburg decided to keep the word "sponge" in the name of the main character of his cartoon (which, by the way, was originally called "SpongeBoy Ahoy!") because he was afraid that children might mistake it for a piece of cheese.

3. SpongeBob owes his character to Jerry Lewis, Paul Reubens and Stan Laurel

According to director Derek Drymon, Hillenburg wanted the main character of his animated series to be funny, mischievous and joyful, like famous American comedians Jerry Lewis, Paul Reubens and Stan Laurel.

Tom Kenny, the man who voiced SpongeBob SquarePants, said that Hillenburg described his character as "half child, half adult" and compared him to Munchkin (from The Wizard of Oz) and the aforementioned comedians.

4. Patrick the Starfish was originally intended to be an angry, disgruntled bar owner.

The pink starfish character first appeared in the animated series when Hillenburg and Drymon were storyboarding the SpongeBob SquarePants pilot. This was not the sweet and dim-witted Patrick Star, but the angry and rude owner of a roadside bar, among other things, a “bully and a bully” who was constantly irritated about the color of his body. When Bill Fagerbakke voiced Patrick, he deliberately slowed down his speech and imagined that he had no neck and his mouth was at chest level.

5. Is Squidward a squid or an octopus?

No one knows exactly who Squidward Tentacles really is. In some episodes of "SpongeBob SquarePants", it is said that he is a squid, in others - an octopus. Stephen Hillenburg created the image of a pessimistic cephalopod with six tentacles only to "not overload its visual perception."

6. The fish from the animated series "SpongeBob SquarePants" that constantly screams "My leg!" has a name. Her name is Fred.

The name of the fish that constantly screams "My leg!" in the animated series was revealed in the episode "Patty Hype". It turns out her name is Fred.

7. Parody of the animated series "SpongeBob SquarePants"

In 2003, the animation studio "Camp Chaos", especially for the show "Very American TV" (English "ILL-ustrated"), which was broadcast on VH1 and MTV2, created a parody of the creation of Stephen Hillenburg - an animated series called "Sponge Bong Hemp Trousers". Its main character lived in a fly agaric, was friends with Gashik and loved to smoke marijuana.

For obvious reasons, this cartoon never appeared on TV screens. But it can be found on YouTube, where it has collected more than 6.3 million views.

8. Stars such as Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Robin Williams took part in voicing the characters in the animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants” (contrary to the initial wishes of Stephen Hillenburg)

Initially, Stephen Hillenburg was against celebrities voicing characters in his animated series. Apparently, he was afraid that SpongeBob SquarePants would be compared to The Simpsons. Hillenburg made an exception only for Tim Conway and Ernest Borgnine, who in the first three seasons voiced the favorite characters SpongeBob, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.

After Hillenburg stepped down as executive producer of the animated series, the residents of Bikini Bottom began to speak in the voices of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Robin Williams, Amy Poehler, Johnny Depp, Victoria Beckham, LeBron James, Pink, Patton Oswalt and other famous personalities.

9. Stephen Hillenburg didn't want Justin Timberlake to sing the SpongeBob SquarePants song.

The soundtrack to the animated series "SpongeBob SquarePants" has been released with many cover versions, in particular, one of them was sung by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne.

The lyrics to the song "Just a Kid", which is performed in the cartoon by the American rock band "Wilco", were written by its vocalist Jeff Tuidy.

The soundtrack to the cartoon "SpongeBob and Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy", performed by The Flaming Lips, its frontman Wayne Coyne initially planned to sing in a duet with Justin Timberlake, but Stephen Hillenburg opposed this idea. He allegedly told Coyne that he didn't want to get involved with any kind of "commercial" weirdos. "I don't like people whose main goal is to make a profit. I like you guys, Wilco and Ween," Hillenburg said.

10. Mushrooms Named After SpongeBob SquarePants

In 2010, Dennis Desjardins, a researcher at San Francisco State University, discovered a new species of mushroom in the tropical forests of Malaysia, which he decided to name Spongiforma squarepantsii after SpongeBob SquarePants.

Spongiforma squarepantsii mushrooms were found on the island of Borneo (aka Kalimantan) in a place that resembled the seabed, “covered with tubular sponges,” some of which smelled like fruit, others like mold.

11. The writers of the cartoon "SpongeBob SquarePants" were inspired by the works of Ray Bradbury

Screenwriter Merriweather Williams, in search of inspiration for writing episodes of the second season of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” decided to turn to the works of American writer Ray Bradbury. She gave her team several copies of his essay collection, Zen in the Art of Writing. Moreover, to generate ideas for the plot of the cartoon, Williams resorted to a method called the “Noun Game.” She asked everyone to write three to six nouns on separate pieces of paper, after which she threw them into a hat and mixed them thoroughly. With the noun Williams pulled out in the next moment, everyone had to make up a short story in one minute.

12. Conservative public organizations called the animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants” propaganda of homosexuality

In 2005, conservative groups such as Focus on the Family declared that SpongeBob SquarePants was a tool for promoting homosexuality. After this incident, the producers of the animated series began to say that the main character has no gender at all. In 2002, Stephen Hillenburg said during an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he considered all of his characters to be “asexual.”

The four-meter replica of David Hasselholff, weighing 340 kilograms, cost about $100 thousand from the total budget of “SpongeBob SquarePants.” The actor himself appeared only at the end of the animated series, in an episode that was written even before the Baywatch star agreed to star in it. A giant David Hasselholff mannequin was sold at auction earlier this year.

14. SpongeBob SquarePants is the longest running animated series ever shown on Nickelodeon.

The number of episodes of “SpongeBob SquarePants” filmed in the current (ninth) season will reach 200. New episodes of the animated series have not been released on TV screens since March, as its producers are currently working to complete filming of the full-length film "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water", the release date of which is set for February 2015 of the year.

SpongeBob SquarePants is one of children's favorite cartoon characters. A bright hero, ready to help his friends, promoting decency, courage and honesty, is popular today among children and teenagers. Branded products featuring the cartoon character are in demand all over the world.

History of character creation

SpongeBob (in Russian translation - SpongeBob) became the hero of the animated series, the premiere episode of which was released on television in the spring of 1999. The product of the children's television channel Nickelodeon turned out to be no less in demand than Hey Arnold! or "Catdog". The story of a small sponge living at the bottom of the ocean in the town of Bikini Bottom has attracted the interest of millions of viewers. The cartoon was about the main character, whose home was a pineapple located on Shell Street, and about his neighbors: an octopus, Sandy the squirrel and a starfish.

SpongeBob works at Mr. Krabs and is trying to get a promotion. The character's life is full of interesting events. The hero learns to drive, receives unexpected guests, organizes parties and takes part in unpredictable scams. The cartoon character was invented by Tom Kenny, and his voice was given to SpongeBob.

A marine biologist, Hillenburg always felt a craving for art, and at some point it overcame common sense. A specialist in marine life, he took an animation course and, upon completing it, gave life to a character that had no analogues in cinema. The underwater city, invented by the author, is inhabited by animals, which only required the consent of the Nickelodeon channel to introduce them to the viewer.
